Tax Credit Awareness There are tax credit programs available to Pennsylvania residents and business owners that can assist parents in making the choice to provide a Catholic education for their children. The Pennsylvania tax credit programs known as EITC and OSTC represent a win/win situation for families in need as well as qualifying businesses and individuals. For pennies on the dollar, you can make a donation to qualifying scholarship organizations like BLOCS, that is, Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools or the Foundation for Catholic Education. You can designate the private school of your choice as the recipient of your generosity. That school receives up to a 90% credit on your state taxes. You then claim a deduction on your federal taxes.

All 119 parish, regional and Independence Mission elementary schools, 17 Archdiocesan high schools, and 4 Archdiocesan Schools of Special Education are eligible to receive these tax credit program donations. Philadelphia is the birthplace of Catholic education in our country and our schools have provided a high quality education rooted in Gospel values for over two centuries. There are many families who want to provide their children with the lifelong benefits our schools can offer.

You can help them overcome financial challenges, enable them to say yes to Catholic education, and receive substantial tax benefits by participating in the EITC/OSTC programs.

Feed the Hungry: Lend a hand to help Safe Harbor

On the first Friday of every month, St. Joseph parishioners prepare, deliver, and serve dinner to 25 women residents at Safe Harbor in West Chester. Would you like to be part of this fulfilling – and needed – outreach? We need volunteers to: • Prepare one of the components of the meal – a main

dish, a vegetable, a starch, a salad, and a dessert. • Be part of the team that delivers and serves the meal. We arrive at Safe Harbor at 4 p.m., serve between 4:30 and 5 p.m., then go home. If you are interested in volunteering on a rotating schedule or if you would like to learn more, please contact parishioner Elizabeth Sokol at [email protected]. Our next meal day is Friday,

June 1. Thank you.

The Loaves and Fishes

Project With the Loaves and Fishes Project,

giving is as easy as 1-2-3:

• Grab a can of soup, a box of pasta, or any non-

perishable item from your cupboard as you dash out the door to Mass.

• Drop off your donation in the “Loaves and Fishes” closet on your right as you come into church.

• Enter the church with the warm feeling of a nourished soul!

The Loaves and Fishes team delivers the items to the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown. Feel free to contribute to this “ongoing food drive” once a week, once a month, once a year - anytime. As a church family, we can make a much appreciated contribution and a significant impact to a charity that helps over 700 families every week.

Please contact Nancy Farrington at [email protected] or 610-620-3619 for more info.

Humanae Vitae 50 Conference A coalition of pro-life Catholics and medical organizations is presenting a Humanae Vitae at 50 Conference on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Saints Simon and Jude Par ish Center , 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA. This Conference begins with an 8:00 AM Mass and concludes by 1:00 PM. The Conference’s terrific speakers include Christopher West, Mary Eberstadt and Dr. Monique Ruberu. On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI issued Humanae Vitae (On Human Life). He predicted four destructive consequences of Contraception. They have all happened. Come hear the leading lay voices in the Catholic Church speak to the truth and beauty of her teaching on the sacred transmission of life . . . and the perils of ignoring it. This Conference seeks to advance a Culture of Life by promoting evangelization on the beauty of God’s gift of human sexuality and the vast harms of the practice of and mentality behind contraception. This Conference will also provide information on the highly effective and much better medical treatments that are available for conditions for which contraceptives are currently prescribed.
