BEFORE STARTING THE STORY Begin the storytime by showing your audience the back cover of Crunch, The Shy Dinosaur and read the headline: “Flip the book over to say hello to Crunch! (You’ll startle him if you say hello from back here.)” Ask the audience if they spot Crunch anywhere in the shrubbery, then flip the book over and say, “Oh, there he is! Hi, Crunch!” Then read the interior front flap before beginning the story. AS YOU READ Have fun with the interactive elements in the story and encourage your audience to participate! When Crunch dons his “most fun hat” on page 13, use the photo booth prop to don yours, too! If you’re so inclined, you can do a little happy dance along with Crunch. END THE STORYTIME Ask the listeners if they think they made a new friend today. What’s their favorite thing about Crunch? Discuss what it means to be shy. Although Crunch is a shy dinosaur, he’s also a very friendly and fun dinosaur. Ask the audience if they ever feel shy or know anyone who seems shy. What did they learn from Crunch about being shy? When you’re done, invite your storytime listeners to complete the activities in this brochure! The Shy Dinosaur HOST A STORYTIME! Art © 2018 by Greg Pizzoli Random House
