ion Jean was inducted as a member of the Port Shepstone Lions Club on 1st March 2000. For the past 13 years (literally to the day!), Lion Jean has L

proven to be an exceptional Lion. He has served as a member of the Club's Board of Directors for a number of years and was an active and dedicated participant in most of the service and fundraising projects undertaken by the Club. His leadership skills came to the fore in 2010 when he took over as Convener of the Annual Lions Show. Such was the success of the Show that he again convened the project in 2011. In 2012 Lion Jean was elected as President of the Port Shepstone Lions Club by his peers. This Club has truly flourished under his leadership. His pleasant disposition, hands on approach and friendliness to all members have played a big part in this. Lion Jean is not scared to “get down and dirty” and, on many occasions is the hardest working member of the team. Our projects have benefited greatly from the many resources that he provides via his company and our administration account has also benefited tremendously from the claims that he donates.

His company also purchased a bus which we often utilise for Club and fellowship related projects. Recently Lion Jean initiated the Old Pont fundraising project at Port Edward. Lion Jean's personal commitment, sheer hard work and dedication resulted in a net profit of R85000-00 for our Charity account – an outstanding achievement. There is a saying that “If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it”. Lion Jean is a very busy person and yet he always delivers – with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. Lion Jean gives new meaning to the term “Stand By Me!” His dedication to serving those in need, his gentle, yet firm disposition and his loyalty to Lionism and all that we stand for has truly made him a man amongst men - Congratulations Jean - a well deserved award! - PDG Denis Meyer

Dear Sheppie Lions

Wow, guys, thanks for another evening

with the Sheppie family.

You guys do Lions soooo proud and an

evening with you guys and your dear Ladies is ALWAYS

enjoyable.

Everything tonight was so lovely and it was an honour and

privilege to be able to share with you and reply on behalf of

the guests.

What an honour too to be seated at the main table. This was

unnecessary, however appreciated.

Please convey my compliments to your members and

partners for an excellent evening and venue.

Jean, congratulations on your Melvin Jones Award. Treasure

it as they don’t come easy and you Jean, really deserve it.

Your Leadership of Sheppie Lions has been remarkable.

Bless you all and once again Thank You and well done.

Take care.

“lets be the wind beneath their wings” Within the Port Shepstone Lions Club,

Melvin Jones Fellows traditionally

decide upon who the next recipient

will be. All voted unanimously in

favour of awarding Lion Jean

Masson.

At the presentation, Melvin Jones

Fellows gathered together at the

podium to welcome our newest

Fellow, Lion Jean Masson. There

were a record number of 11 Melvin

Jones Fellows present at the Charter

Dinner.

n 2nd March Lions Alastair Warman, Kevin Ross and Dale Mc

Garry visited Shelly Centre Shopping Mall in Shelly Beach and

offered their support for the 2013 CANSA Shavathon. These Othree dapper fellows eventually left the centre looking like total

strangers. Their support for this very worthy cause was, however, highly

appreciated. Shavathon events were held at Shelly Centre, South Coast

Mall and Hibiscus Mall.

ion Gary Vogt recently underwent reconstructive surgery. He was cycling behind a bulldozer on a farm on

Sunday 24th March. The driver suddenly changed to reverse gear and crushed Gary's Bike. Gary managed Lto dive out of the way, however, his feet were caught under the tracks and have been badly injured. Lion

Gary will be wheel chair bound for the next 3 months and is using a wheelchair kindly donated by the Sheppie

Lions. We wish him a speedy recovery.

or more than 2 decades, Port Shepstone Lions have hosted a monthly bingo session for senior citizens. The

bingo was initially a project for the blind, however due to popular demand all senior citizens were eventually Finvited to participate. Bingo sessions were held at the Uvongo Bowling Club for a number of years until the

Lions decided to hold the sessions at their clubhouse in Umtentweni which proved to be a more convenient venue

for all involved. On Saturday 23rd March, the Club held their Bingo session at the Lions' Den. Members utilise their

own vehicles to transport 28 senior folk to the event. Lion Ladies provided the guests with delicious snacks and cakes

and the Lions served as the waiters. Lion Hilton Horsley called the numbers in his usual humorous manner and

entertained all present. The whole event was again a great success thanks to the fine efforts of project leader Alastair

Warman.
