Skeletons are everywhere around Halloween! Let’s face it, DEATH is everywhere the whole month of

October. So how can we put a biblical spin on what we see?

There is an amazing story about dry bones coming up out of the ground in Ezekiel 37:

We can’t completely avoid the season of Halloween, but we can use every opportunity possible to point it towards scripture. After all, Bible stories are much better than ghost stories...because they are true!

After reading the story in the Bible, help your children make the

skeleton they read about in the Bible:

1: The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of

the valley which was full of bones,

2: And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they

were very dry.

3: And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

4: Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

5: Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

6: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and

ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

7: So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones

came together, bone to his bone.

8: And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was

no breath in them.

9: Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD;

Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10: So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet,

an exceeding great army.

11: Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are

dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

12: Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves,

and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

13: And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of

your graves,

14: And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I

the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.

It takes practice to learn new things. Jesus wants us

to practice and learn as much as we can! Here’s

something you may need to practice before you are

able to do it well.

Materials:

String

Button

What to do:

Thread a string through one hold of a button, then

back through another hole. Tie the ends of the

string together. Holding an end of the string in each

hand, twirl the button around and around, then pull

tightly on both ends of the string at the same time.

The button will spin and spin!

Called to be People of Compassion

I recently officiated a wedding and after the service there was a dinner for the wedding guests. All

the guests were assigned specific tables to sit at. My wife and I happened to be assigned to a particular

table with a group of people who were business partners together. We immediately entered into a

conversation with them and I asked them lots of questions about their business and their partnership. It

didn’t take me long, though, to realize that this group was not a particularly spiritual group of people. When

given an opportunity to share a portion of my testimony with them, I could tell that there was a disconnect

between us on the spiritual level. In the midst of that conversation, I remember glancing around that table

of people and wondering to myself whether I truly had compassion for them, being that they were so much

different from me and were very likely unbelievers. It got me thinking….

1 Peter 2:9 says that we, as believers, are a royal priesthood. The priests were to be people of great

compassion, especially for those who were ignorant and going astray, because the priests were very aware

of their own sinful condition. In addition, our High Priest, Jesus Christ, is full of compassion and not

willing that any should perish.

I was reminded again, through all of this, that being a person of compassion toward those in the body

of Christ, as well as to those who are lost, is a high calling and a great privilege for each one of us. We have

this calling on us wherever we go and our compassion is to be extended toward those we

come in contact with, in our neighborhoods, at work, at school, in our communities……and

even at weddings.

With something to think about with you and your family in mind….
