What did we see?

Museum of the history of medicine. This exhibition showed various medical settings in the past compared to two modern day medical settings.

-Civilisations Looking at famous civilisations and how people were treated then and now – the law/medicine/health. What similarities have remained? What differences are there? The future – what do we expect to happen 10/100/1000 years from now?

-Resources Looking at how people dealt with everyday life in the past – could you always flush a toilet? When things were invented? Would you be able to survive without the modern appliances we have today? Wastefulness - in past versus now.

Art and Design for these weeks

-Product designCan you invent something use inspiration from the past, present or future that will help future civilisations. This will include group work planning and designing 1 product, making the product and then presenting it.

Theme of the Term: Past, Present and Future

LO: To be able to design a product using recyclable material. Introduction: 5/10mins (carpet whole class) Recap over the science museum trip (inspiration) – do a mind

map of children’s ideas about inventions that they saw. Then give children box of recycled materials that they can use and tell them to make a brainstorm of their inventions in relation to their materials.

Main Activity: 30 minutes Get children to start designing their product on paper – ensure

that each child has a role in the group. Plenary: Get a child from each group to summarize their idea so far and

how they attempt to make it. Explain what they think will be challenging about making their invention and how they will deal with it.
