A special thanks to our coaches, Mr. Ola and Mr. Lassfor leading the learning! Safety RemindersWith all of the snow, we are all just trying to deal with the congestion thebest that we can. To that end, I thought a few reminders might be helpfulafter the winter break:*Live Drop-off is on Druce Street right in front of the school. (No parking)*Short term (3o minutes) parking on Chesham on the right side only (Noparking on the left side.)*Short term (15 minute) parking on the school-side of Clinton.*PLEASE be mindful that there are a few of handicapped parking spacesthat you need a hanging tag (or a handicapped license plate) to park in. They are located in front of the live drop off area by the ramp and there isalso one on Buckminster near the junction of Druce Street as well. (Pleasealso be mindful that there is a "no parking" sign near the handicappedparking sign by the ramp as well; parking there prohibits cars that areproperly parked from exiting safely.) Heeding the signs in the immediate vicinity of the school will make thearrival and dismissal procedures safe for everyone. Thank you! Sincerely, Vanessa C. Beauchaine, Ed.D.Principal

From the SuperintendentDear Brookline Parents/Guardians:

To date, we have lost six (6) days of school and, as a result, our2014-2015 school year will conclude on Friday, June 26, 2015. If we areconfronted with more snow and more cancellations, we face the possibilityof extending the school year into the following week, thereby usingMonday, June 29th and Tuesday, June 30th. This is a strategy for meetingthe 180 day requirement that I would prefer not to utilize. We have beenadvised by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education(DESE) that there will be no waivers to the 180 day requirement, unlesscancellations occur after April 1st.

In my view, making up instructional days at the end of June to meet our180 day mandate is not in the best interest of student learning. In addition,I am concerned about the impact that this schedule could have onsummer programs and professional development. Finally, given that our2015-2016 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 1st (staff) andThursday, September 3rd (students), the late June ending will mean ashorter summer for all of us.

Given this context, I am looking for feedback from you. Please complete avery brief survey to provide me with feedback on these important2014-2015 calendar issues. The survey is available here: http://sgiz.mobi/s3/PSB-Snowday-Survey. The survey will close at 4:00 p.m. onMonday, February 23, 2015.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you via this survey.

Sincerely,

Bill Lupini, Superintendent
