Bass Coast Cycle Challenge (BCCC), Teaching students about safety on our roads is a vital part of their development and growth into
adulthood. This has been made possible by the RYDA program and more importantly, through the
financial support of the Bass Coast Cycle Challenge (BCCC), which pools its funds into these programs for
schools across the Bass Coast / Gippsland region.
The Bass Coast Cycle Challenge is coming up
on Sunday 12 November 2017. Along with the
classic cycle challenge, the following activities are
also on offer on this jam-packed day:
~ Skate & BMX competitions
~ Family Festival Day
~ Fun Run
~ Billy Cart Races (new course!)
~ Jumping Castle, Entertainment and Face Painting
It’s a fantastic day combining adventure, fun, competition, which all ultimately contributes to a potentially
life-saving road safety program.

From the Principal Mini Mudda, a Huge Success
Congratulations to those involved in our Mini Mudda on Saturday, the weather was kind to us
and the competitors, event organisers, staff and volunteers gave their all. The overwhelming majority of our competitors completed the course many times with their sense of competitive
spirit and fun, driving their desire to soak up the mud and wet conditions. In total we had 246
competitors register with many of them coming from Melbourne or from other schools in our
local area. The inclusion of more stalls this year also appealed to the mums and dads with many of them taking advantage of the coffee and the various food treats on offer.
Our event organisers, the Major Events Committee, put together an unbelievable event, one which brought our community together in a fashion I have yet to experience at any school.
Jesse and Bibi Sago, Nathan Leversha, Brendan Smith, Andrea Phillips, Caroline Moore and
Jenna Melroury put together a huge body of work to bring this together, and on behalf of
the school community, we thank them for their passion and pride they have for our school, sense of community spirit and unwavering commitment to ensuring a high quality event was
delivered. Interestingly, the events team is already reviewing this year’s event and the early
mail is that the ideas in the pipeline will make next year’s event even bigger and better.
The sponsorship for this event was very well supported and in no particular order we are grateful for the following businesses for getting on board: Voyage Fitness, Totally Workwear,
TS Constructions, Bass Coast Shire Council, Wonthaggi Workmens Club, 3MFM, Bunnings, Hello
Travel, Wonthaggi Pest Control, Gordyn and Palmer, LS Finance Broking, PBE Wonthaggi,
Foons Photographics, South Gippsland Sentinel Times, Tyrepower Wonthaggi, The Dalton
Family, The Simons Family, Bass Coast Flippin Out, A Garden of Thoughts, Foons Creative, Zun
and Associates, Ezyas Car Wash and Laundromat, Cargills Sports Store, Mitchell and Co,
Coffee Collective, Clancy's Printing, Mitre 10, Revive Beauty and Therapy, Wrench’s Footwear,
Cactus Black, Wheel Heat and Intersport. With the combined contributions from sponsors
and registrations we have estimated to have raised close to $7,000.
Thanks once again to all those involved and I’m sure you look forward to getting wet and
muddy again next year. I know I am, and hopefully I can beat a few of the students next
time.
Kind Regards,
Mark Chandler

ART M N"S The 1/2’s have been working on the beautiful weaving wall art project which is now on display in the hall
of Fame. They have completed the section on top, the section underneath along the wall has been left
blank. The blank wire is for any students to be able to work on at recess or lunch.
There are tubs of wool and scissors also in the Hall for students to use and the tables are there for the wire
to rest on. When the blank section is looking more finished I will attach it to the wall as well. If parents or family members would also like to add to the weaving that would also be fantastic.
A huge thankyou to everyone who has donated goods to the artroom. We now have a big pile of toy/
cushion stuffing for the 3/4/5 soft toy project, but are currently still looking for a bit more as we have ap-
proximately 150 students creating their own toy. This does't have to be new, it's fine if it's from old cushions/
toys.
Could any students who have taken work home in their brown folios please remember to return their folios
to the Artroom so that more of their awesome work can go home in good condition.
Thankyou

Wonthaggi Primary School is now a FarmGate! FarmGate Online is a healthy way to Fundraise while also supporting local farmers and producers. By ordering your fruit and veggies online and collecting them from Wonthaggi Primary School, 10% of the value of your order goes to the school as fundraising.
So how does it work:
• Go to www.farmgate.online and click Sign In. You'll be asked to provide some essential information to join up to the site.
• Join the Wonthaggi Primary School FarmGate.
• Browse and select from our range of produce boxes or choose the fruit and veg your family like best.
• Place your order each Monday night by 8pm and pay online using PayPal or Bank Deposit.
• We pack your order and deliver it to Wonthaggi Primary School for collection Thursdays at 3:30pm from outside the Art Room.
• 10% of the value of the orders picked up from school is then paid to the school’s fundraising account.
Wherever possible, our produce comes from local farmers. If we can't source a product from the local area, we source as locally as we can. We only purchase Australian produce!
We keep packaging to a minimum and ask our customers to return the delivery boxes for collection from the school so we can re-use and eventually recycle the packaging.
$6OR EVN,S 2017 Kidz Mini Mudda
What a fantastic day Saturday was with so many
people from the community participating in the Kidz
Mini Mudda. We had over 240 participants and
estimate over 700 people attended the event. So
many wonderful things going on, from the obstacle
course, to the students doing musical performances,
and don't forget the magician! This event raised
around $7000 for the school which is a fantastic
effort!
It was very exciting to see one of our participants
make the front page of the Sentinnel Times this
week, which just highlighted how hugely successful
the event was and it’s all thanks to our sponsors,
donators and volunteer helpers, without whom it
would not of been the awesome event that it was.
Many thanks to our Sponsors and Raffle Prize Donors;
Voyage Fitness, Totally Workwear, TS Constructions,
Bass Coast Shire Council, Wonthaggi Workmens
Club, 3MFM, Bunnings, Hello Travel, Wonthaggi Pest
Control, Gordyn and Palmer, LS Finance Broking, PBE

We hope to make this event bigger and better next
year by tapping into the skills and talents of the
children, parents and friends by having stalls with
locally made crafts and produce and more of the
local talent up on stage. So start thinking about
what you can bring to next years Kidz Mini Mudda.
Major Events Committee
Ten read-aloud commandments
1. Spend at least ten wildly happy minutes every single day reading aloud. From birth!
2. Read at least three stories a day: it may be the same story three times. Children need to hear a thousand stories before they can begin to learn to read. Or the same story a thousand times!
3. Read aloud with animation. Listen to your own voice and don’t be dull, or flat, or boring. Hang loose and be loud, have fun and laugh a lot.
4. Read with joy and enjoyment: real enjoyment for yourself and great joy for the listeners
5. Read the stories that your child loves, over and over, and over again, and always read in the same ‘tune’ for each book: i.e. with the same intonations and volume and speed, on each page, each time.
6. Let children hear lots of language by talking to them constantly about the pictures, or anything else connected to the book; or sing any old song that you can remember; or say nursery rhymes in a bouncy way; or be noisy together doing clapping games
7. Look for rhyme, rhythm or repetition in books for young children, and make sure the books are really short.
8. Play games with the things that you and the child can see on the page, such as letting kids finish rhymes, and finding the letters that start the child’s name and yours, remembering that it’s never work, it’s always a fabulous game.
9. Never ever teach reading, or get tense around books.
10. Please read aloud every day because you just adore being with your child, not because it’s the right thing to do.
