PLASTIC BOTTLES AND ALUMINIUM CANS RECYCLING INITIATIVE The school and the P&C Association are very supportive of a recycling initiative recently developed by Eva Galayini of Year 6. The idea is to have each family collect plastic bottles and aluminium cans which will be collected and returned to school early in Term 4. These will then delivered to a bulk recycling centre in Granville and in return, the school will receive 10 cents per bottle with funds going towards line-marking for new handball courts. If each North Rocks PS family returns just ten bottles or cans, this will equate to almost $5000 in recycling funds. The community’s support with this initiative is greatly appreciated and more information will be forwarded home in coming weeks. NEW ADMINISTRATION BUILDING OPENING TERM 4 It is wonderful to confirm with the school community that commencing day one of Term 4, the school administration will operate from our new administration building. Our builders, Intrec, have confirmed the new facilities will be ready and moving will occur at the end of this term and throughout the school holidays. Access into the administration foyer will be via the new front gate entrance adjacent to North Rocks Road. I imagine it will take a few days to have things up and running efficiently once we move, and seek the community’s support and understanding throughout this transition phase. JERSEY DAY – FRIDAY 30

th AUGUST 2019

In support of the Australian Organ Donor Register, the school is supporting Jersey Day tomorrow, Friday 30th August.

Staff, students and parents are encouraged to wear their favourite sporting jersey to show their support for the Donate Life Network. There is no cost involved, but this is simply a way of raising the awareness of organ donation across Australia and supporting the Donate Life Network. Jersey Day is also a wonderful opportunity to start the conversation with friends and family about organ donation. Please find a page of interesting facts about organ donation below.

CASTLE HILL PSSA ZONE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL The Castle Hill PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival was held on Monday with some excellent results for North Rocks PS. Our senior girls relay team and a number of individual students performed incredibly well and have qualified for the Sydney West Athletics Carnival to be held at the Blacktown International Athletics Centre on Thursday 17

th October.

Congratulations to Cody Burton (2nd

– 1500m and 800m), Joshua Reynolds (2nd

Junior Discuss), Evana Butler (3rd

Junior Shotput) and the Senior Girls Relay Team (2

nd place). We wish these students all the best for the

upcoming Sydney West PSSA carnival.

FATHER’S DAY STALL The school sincerely thank our P&C and the Kindergarten parent volunteers and helpers for an amazing effort providing the children with an opportunity to purchase a gift from the annual Father’s Day stall. The stall was very well supported, providing an excellent way for the children to give something special to dad whilst providing another valuable fund-raising opportunity for our P&C Association. WALKATHON – CHANGE OF DATE – WEDNESDAY 30

th OCTOBER

Due to the various fund-raising activities already planned across Term 3, the school has decided to move the Walkathon to Week 3 of Term 4. The new date will now be Wednesday 30

th October and information regarding sponsorship and

organisation will be shared later in the term. AMAZING ART – NORTH ROCKS PUBLIC SCHOOL ART AUCTION The 2019 Student Art Auction is now live online and is attracting some excellent attention. KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2020 With Term 3 now underway, I would like to remind parents that enrolments for Kindergarten 2020 are now due to be returned to school. If you live in our school catchment area and have a child who will be starting Kindergarten next year, please visit the front office for an enrolment form. This will ensure the school can maintain places for all our in-area students. I would like to thank those families that have already visited the school and completed their enrolment details. Mr Rob Ieroianni Principal

JUDO JUNIOR SPORTS CUP The school would like to wish Grace Wilson from Year 5 every success in her upcoming Judo Junior Sports Cup on September 15

th. This is the inaugural event so we hope she can bring home the cup for North Rocks Public School.

Judo (meaning the gentle way) is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport where you use your opponents momentum against them to throw them and/or pin them to the ground. It teaches kids how to defend themselves as well as developing valuable life skills such as confidence, discipline and fitness. All the best for this event, Grace!

P&C Report Term 3 Week 6

You may have noticed quite a few events are on the calendar this year! Not only is this a great way to meet new friends, but all these fundraising events take us closer to our goal of raising $60,000. Without a fete, we need to work together as volunteers, as well as coming along to support these events, so that we have more money to spend on various upgrades and resources around the school. A huge thanks to the Kindergarten parents who are organising the Fathers’ Day Stall on August 29th. We appre-ciate your time and effort. Happy Father’s Day for Sunday, gents! FAMILY FUN AFTERNOON ARTSHOW AND RAFFLE! Have you marked September 7th on the calendar? This will be a lovely afternoon at the school from 2pm-5pm and a chance to purchase artworks created by our students. Bidding has opened for the silent auction on these amazing artworks created by each class and guided by Jennifer Burns. Come along and enjoy a fun filled afternoon and don’t forget your gold coins for all the activi-

ties on offer for the kids! The raffle will be drawn at 4pm. Have you sold and returned your raffle tickets yet? Please do so as soon as possible. Together, we can reach our goal. The NRPS P&C would like to thank the following businesses for making generous donations to our raffle in 2019. We would encourage you to support these businesses who are so kindly supporting us:

Piccolo Me Turiya Yoga iFly Downunder Officeworks HAVE YOU REGISTERED A TEAM FOR GOLF DAY! Sponsorship packages and registration forms are available for the NRPS Golf Day on October 25th. First in best dressed so don’t delay! Limited spots are available. Remember to “like” the North Rocks Public School P and C Facebook page so that you keep up to date with events around the school: https://www.facebook.com/NRPSPandC/ Did you know there are also Facebook groups for each year group? If you have not yet joined the group your child is in, look it up and connect with others in your year group. For example “NRPS Kindy 2019”, “NRPS Year 3 2019” and so on… It was great to see new (and old!) faces at the last meeting. If you have any questions or want to know how you can be involved in the P&C then you can email [email protected] or come along to our next meeting on Tuesday 17th September at 7.30pm in the staffroom. All welcome. See you there! John Bolwell P&C President
