J emma McNair and Blake Humbert represented Roches-
ter Secondary College at the Remembrance Day Cere-
mony last Friday. They met with the President, Wing
Commander (rtd) John Glover who spoke of the significance
of the day.
Jemma and Blake also enjoyed meeting Mr. Patrick
O’Shaughnessy and listening to his experiences in the navy,
especially of how he came to be awarded a special medal by
the Russians. Jemma and Blake placed a floral tribute of red
and white roses, which were selected and kindly arranged by
Mrs Watson, from her garden.
Their fellow classmates from the Year 9 Australians at War
class helped to sell items for the Poppy Appeal, which was
much appreciated.

Around the College SRC Tryouts Day
O n Monday 14th November our College had a record turnout of students wanting a spot on the 2017 Student Repre-
sentative Council Executive, plus nine wonderful ex-students who came along and basically ran the day.
After some ice-breaker activities, the large but very functional group completed a series of games and activities based on lead-
ership and teamwork. Linda Belot made us a truly delicious lunch and then the afternoon was dedicated to SRC-specific train-
ing.
Our College’s Student Representative Council is the voice of all our students; while it can be hard work running events, fund-
raising and pushing for new ways to have students ‘heard’ at our school, this is a really rewarding job to do.
All the best to everyone who applied: as usual, the standard was very high and I look forward to a sensational seventeen!
Strive For Progress, Not Perfection
Around the College CAS Students help at St Josephs PS Cross Country
O n Wednesday, November 16th, a group of Year 10 CAS students walked to St Josephs Primary School where their
Cross Country run was being held.
It was a run along the river which both Primary and Secondary students competed in. Even a couple of parents joined in the
fun. It was a great day and St Joes topped it off by having a post race sausage sizzle.
