THREE QUESTIONS FOR MIHA KOROŠECHarvest season is definitely the busiest time of year, both for Farmtech’s customers and dealers. They need extra information, support, and spare parts, and are confronted with all kinds of questions. It’s also the time when Farmtech’s service team is most in demand. Miha Korošec, who heads the Service and Quality Department, talks about his experience, proven practices and the importance of service.

You’ve been with Farmtech since 2014. What experience did you bring with you when you came on board?

Up until April 2014 I had not had any dealings with agricultural machinery, professionally or otherwise. Although I grew up in the country, we didn’t have a big farm like our customers do. My experience had been with material streams, implementation of standards, certification, and the management and organization of large work groups. I had previously worked in several manufacturing companies as produc-tion worker, fitter, NC programmer, and head of quality management and production units.

What is your role in the company, and what are the primary responsibilities of a Service and Quality Department head?At Farmtech I’m responsible for quality management and control, as well as for service. The departments I’m in charge of are pretty different but they share a focus on product quality. As head of quality control and service, I deal with faults in products, while in quality man-

agement I deal with product inspec-tions and the general quality system, for example introducing monitoring steps in company processes and new quality standards.Ultimately, product quality starts with the concept – the design, the prepa-ration and all other production steps. The activities of the departments I run are linked to all the processes in the company. It’s the job of a quality and service manager to make sure that products have the highest possible quality, and to find fast, effective, sys-tematic solutions in case of deviations.

What are the biggest challenges for your team, and what specific goals, expectations and plans do you have for the future?

Fast response to customer complaints is fundamental. Although we react quickly, we still aren’t where we want to be. The working day in-house is greatly affected by the sense of responsibility of all production employees. Work outside the company, by which I mean service, depends on the knowledge and social skills of our field reps and

the availability of spare parts. Currently we’re working on improving parts avail-ability. Our goal is to get parts delivered within two days of ordering. We’re also planning to offer dealer training, including for handling warranty work and spare parts orders. Our brand new service truck will be a big help in deal-ing with warranty and service calls.

The farm is worked by two generations of the family under the leadership of Štefan Cigüt. With experience and hard work, he has made the farm larger year by year. Currently he works more than 330 hectares, growing healthy, high-quality products. In addition to family members the farm employs eight full-time hands, and Štefan Cigüt Junior will soon take over the running of this modern operation. He grew up on the farm, and agriculture is in his blood.

EXCITED ABOUT THE MEGAFEX

In addition to growing crops and rais-ing some 800 head of beef cattle, the farm also provides contract services with agricultural machines. One of them is the Farmtech Megafex 2200, which is in constant use. “We collect over 8000 cubic meters of organic fertilizer per year. With that kind of volume, we need regular, dependable disposal. We compared many different brands, but the Megafex had the versa-tility and performance we were looking for,” says Cigüt of the big Farmtech manure spreader.

ORGANIC FERTILIZER HAS GREAT POTENTIAL

Experienced farmers have known for a long time that natural, organic fertiliz-ers are many times better for harvests and soil quality then chemical fertiliz-ers. Cigüt says, “we use this all-purpose spreader for hauling and spreading manure, lime, river mud and other or-ganic fertilizers. Years ago we cut back our use of chemical fertilizers, and organics are basically our main source of nutrients. We test them regularly and spread them on fields in the best, gentlest way possible. makes our job easier. Its ideal spread pattern gives us controlled application. We can also replace the spreader unit with silage doors, and use the Megafex to transport corn, grass and triticale silage.” It was the machine’s versatility that tipped the balance in its favour. “We were already using a predecessor model of the Megafex, and the new generation had some major improve-ments to offer.”

QUALITY BEFORE QUANTITY

Cigüt farm is a modern, profession-al and specialized business that is committed to high product quality. Price is not the overriding factor. “The opportunity to test the machines first, our long relationship and the quality of Farmtech’s products made the deci-sion easier for us. We’re glad we added the Megafex to our machine park.”

FOR INTERNATIONAL GOURMETSRoman Dulc from Škocjan in Slovenia’s Dolenjska region has been a passionate cattleman for 20 years now. The beef his steers give has become a highly sought-after delicacy in gourmet restaurants in neighbouring countries.

10

Roman Dulc took over the farm from his parents. With a modern entrepre-neurial approach and many invest-ments, he transformed it into the operation it is today.

FAMILY TIES AS THE KEY TO SUC-CESS

Roman and his brother Janez work about 100 hectares of land. “My brother and I get along great and have dealt with every problem together. I’m convinced that family ties are a key to success,” says Dulc of the strong rela-tionship. Both enjoy the work on the farm. The farm’s main business is the raising of beef cattle. 300 to 450 steers leave its very well-kept premises every year, mostly breeds like Charolais and Limousin.

IN INTERNATIONAL DEMAND

Marketing, buying and selling of cattle are all done right on the farm. Most of the steers, which weigh in at about 750 kg each, are raised solely for meat pro-duction, and most of them are sold to neighbouring Italy. “Prices in Slovenia are under the European average, so we looked for other markets to get better profit margins. We found customers in Italy. Italians are real gourmets – they appreciate quality and will pay for it. Unfortunately, we often find that in Slovenia our own domestic products are not really appreciated and peo-ple prefer foreign products instead, which are mostly not as good, just have better-known names,” says Dulc of the difficult situation on the domestic market.

MODERN MACHINE PARK

High-quality machines by leading manufacturers show that quality is very important to the Dulcs. Among their perfectly maintained and cared for machines is a Durus 2000 dump tipper. Dulc says, “we’ve always used Farmtech products. So when the Durus tipper came on the market, the deci-sion to get one was easy. It combines modern design with high functionality. We can use it for harvesting, trans-porting grain and silage and many other things. We’ve had consistently good experience with Farmtech, and the price-performance ratio is sound. Maintenance and spare parts are readily available, and I don’t see that changing in the future. I never had any problems, and that’s why I’m always glad to recommend Farmtech.”

CLEAR GOALS

The goals for the future are clear – long-term, stable, efficient growth. And Roman Dulc is confident that it will be possible. “We deliver top quality, and as long as there are no unpleasant surprises on the market and in prices, I’m not worried about the future.”

Slovenia has the quality, tradition and specialist expertise in farming to offer products that can succeed on international markets.

Bengsch founded his company in 1990, and started out by hauling logs in the forest. His three brothers helped him out after work. Five years later he expanded into agricultural services. Until 2007 he provided all services in addition to working his own operation. Now his company has 13 regular em-ployees, expanding to 25 during har-vest season. 70 percent of his work is in agriculture, the rest in forestry.

MEETUP AT AGRITECHNICA

He first met Farmtech in 2009 at the Agritechnica trade fair in Hannover, where he saw the Fortis push-off trailer for the first time. “Then came demon-strations. In 2012 a biogas operation with 600 hectares of maize cultivation became a customer, and I just went ahead and bought three Fortis 3000s,” says Bengsch of the beginning of his relationship with Farmtech. Currently his company serves customers within a 100 kilometre radius.

PLEASANT SURPRISE

“After the 2012 harvest season Farmtech proactively approached me to do refit work on the trailer bars, ax-les and rear doors. That was real-ly a very pleasant surprise,” reports Bengsch. High machine availabili-ty is very important to him, given that each of his machines transports about 10,000 tonnes per year. Since 2013 he has also been the proud owner of a Megafex 1800 universal spreader.

HIGH PRODUCT QUALITY

Bengsch is particularly happy with his three Fortis push-off trailers. He uses them three to move materials like si-lage, stall manure, grain and chips. “Their universal utility is a hit. It’s just what I need for my business. Plus, the frames and chassis are extremely tough. No comparison to the competi-tion,” he says of his machines. “They’re also much more stable and better on slopes.”

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPIS THE KEYA stable, long-term relationship with dealers is especially important to Mark-us Bengsch. “Sodermann as manufac-turer’s rep and Kollmann as dealer and service provider take very good care of me,” says Bengsch in praise of the consistency and quality of the help he gets from Farmtech’s dealer network. “Some of the other manufacturers could learn a thing or two from them. We always work out solutions together that ensure that I have the best pos-sible machine availability. And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.”

A LOOK AHEADMarkus Bengsch doesn’t want to grow as rapidly going forward. “I’m going to work on improving my in-house organ-ization,” he says. There are also some things he’d like to see from Farmtech. “Better spare parts availability would definitely be a good thing. And a truck-mounted push-off bed would be nice, since mobility and range will only get more important down the road.” And thereupon he drives off with his Fortis. Markus Bengsch knows what he wants.

Since 1988 Helmut Schorn has been providing agricultural services in southeastern Austria. His machine park continues to grow steadily.

BEFORE THE ROOSTER CROWS

Helmut Schorn smiles as he strides onto the Lagerhaus grounds in Feld-kirchen. There’s a reason for that. His relationship with Lagerhaus, which supplies his Farmtech trailers and John Deere tractors, is going great. As are his machines. Some of them have many thousands of hours behind them, but they still look almost new, thanks to regular maintenance and care.

“Ten years ago I bought a used Megafex 1400 universal spreader from Farmtech. It must have 5000 hours un-der its belt by now,” has says as he re-calls his first Farmtech purchase. Only in 2014 did he get his second machine, a Megafex 2200, followed quickly by two more Megafex 1800s plus a DDK 2400 three-axle three-way tipper in 2015.

Schorn’s first Megafex 1400 already has over 10 years and 5000 operating hours under its belt. Farmtech sales manager Thomas Fössl explains all the improvements that have been made since.

24

AGRICULTURAL SERVICES

Helmut Schorn has remained a one-man show all these years. “If I need personnel, I get them from the ma-chine association. If there’s a lot of work, that might mean four or five peo-ple,” says Schorn of his strategy. He does jobs like liquid and solid manure spreading, all types of feed transport (grain, maize etc.), and pressing and baling silage into round or rectangu-lar bales. In the winter he stays busy spreading grit and salt. Schorn gets up before the rooster crows every morn-ing.

GOOD RELATIONSHIP

He speaks of his relationship with Farmtech and Lagerhaus in the high-est terms. “It’s a great relationship. My workshop manager at Lagerhaus,

Eduard Freithofnig is basically a neigh-bour, and I can reach him day and night. I never need more than 10 min-utes in the shop. You can’t do better than that. And thus far, whenever an-ything has come up Farmtech has al-ways reacted quickly and taken care of any problems. The company has really come a long way in the last few years.”

FINE SPREAD PATTERN

He has particularly good things to say about the Megafex’ spread pat-tern when spraying chicken manure on green fields. “It lets me run two spread-ers side by side, which is a huge pro-ductivity boost,” says Schorn. So in re-cent years he’s added more machines to his lineup. “Fast reactions are get-ting more and more important in this business.”

“I’M AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS EVERY DAY FROM 5 AM TO 10 PM.”

25

COMPOST PROBLEM

Compost spreading, formerly a ma-jor line of work, has been declining. “It’s very difficult to calculate the right amount of fertilizer, especially for big farms,” says Schorn. “In its present form, compost spreading doesn’t have a future.” MAKE A WISH!

But he still has a wish list for Farmtech. “Spare parts availability needs to get better and faster. I can’t afford machine downtime. A telephone hotline for fast-er reactions would be the right solu-tion,” he says. “That would really be great. And maybe another Fortis push-off trailer,” he adds with a chuckle.

The new generation of of the Fortis 3000 all-purpose push-off trailer has higher performance, makes work easier, saves costs and is just generally more efficient. The Fortis is designed for long-term, demanding hauling, loading, unloading and spreading, making it useful year-round for all kinds of farming jobs.

FAST UNLOADING

The tough, sturdy frame has a strong chassis of cold-formed U-beams. Gross weight is 33 tonnes and load volume is 45 cubic meters. This allows higher transportation capacity, higher efficien-cy in use and lower costs per kilometre. The ability to use silage doors or a spreader unit allows several work steps to be taken care of at one time. Emp-

tying is by two hydraulic motors and chains. It’s fast and reliable, and uses almost no oil. This flexible, practical system is unique. The push-off design allows fast loading and unloading on rough terrain and in places with low headroom.

HIGH SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE

The new chassis is rated to 60 km/h, minimizes impact force and makes towing the Fortis easy, comfortable and safe. It uses a tridem axle assembly with six parabolic springs together with the latest electronic forced control. An intelligent load-sensing system for the hydraulic suspension in conjunction with the forced control gives higher safety. The push-off drive is automat-ically regulated and optimized for

smooth operation. It minimizes oil con-sumption, uses just the right amount of pressure and makes sure that the cylinders don’t overheat.

FOCUS ON ECONOMY

All functions are easy to operate from a display in the tractor cabin. With its features and performance, the Fortis boosts economy, efficiency and use of capacity. Its long-lived toughness makes it a dependable investment in the future.

This tough tipper with a gross weight of 13 tonnes is designed for great ma-noeuvrability under tough conditions, whether agricultural hauling, forestry or special municipal jobs. With the TDK 1300F you’re ready to meet any challenge. High maintenance costs and expensive machine parks are a thing of the past – one tipper can handle all kinds of jobs all year round.

HIGH PERFORMANCE AND VERSA-TILITYDespite a longer front connector and the built-in crane, this tipper has a low centre of gravity. It is very stable and can take heavy loads. It’s built tough for professional use. The sturdy tubular steel frame with reinforced parabolic springs gives good height compensa-tion, while the base is of 4 mm sheet steel. It comes standard with rigid side-walls (600 mm) and hinged sidewalls (600 mm). It’s suitable for hauling ag-ricultural materials like feed grain, hay bales, firewood, chips etc., and sand, gravel, dirt etc. in municipal use.A four-stage chrome-plated cylinder enables unloading on three sides. The sidewalls can be opened in different ways. They can be removed up or out so that the tipper can be configured to carry limbs, logs and long lumber with the help of reinforced log bars (5 pairs). Fast releases enable additional load volume. This tandem tipper has extensive standard equipment – tan-dem chasses with reinforced parabolic springs, four-wheel hydraulic or air brakes, a support leg, rear plug socket, protective grille over the rear lights, speed up to 25 km/h and optional to 60 km/h, and much more. We also offer special equipment for users who need more. For example, you can get it with a crane.

STURDY CRANE

The F (for Forestry) model offers the option of a loading crane on the front towbar. The crane is available in several versions and makes loading and un-loading easier. The standard model is a new generation Penz 6 Z crane, which meets even the most exacting de-mands. It’s easy to operate and permits unhampered movement and complete control. Two telescoping supports ensure stability and safety when work-ing with the crane. The crane’s lifting arm has plenty of power for all sorts of uses. It’s versatile and strong, and

gives the operator full control of all functions. For loading and unloading large limbs, logs and round lumber, a logging grab can be fitted. For use with gravel, stones, dirt and chips, the crane can be used with a shovel.

MORE SAFETY DURING REVERSING

Safe Reverse works with the modern EBplus brake control unit, turn direc-tion sensors and ultrasound proximity sensors, all well protected under the main tipping hinge. If the tipper ap-proaches an object within three meters while backing, the side limit lights flash to warn the driver and a warning tone sounds to alert him of the risk of collision.

If the interval narrows the lights flash faster. If the driver continues to back up despite these warnings, when the tipper is a meter away from the object the brakes are automatically applied. This happens in intervals at first. If the tipper closes to within a half meter of the obstacle, it brakes completely, blocking the wheels regardless of the

load condition. The warning signal switches to a steady tone. Once the driver changes the direction of travel, the Safe Reverse system is deactivated.

In addition to detecting objects in the tipper’s blind spot, the Durus 2000 with EBplus has automatic load-de-pendent brake force control (ALB) and antilock brakes (ABS). The angle sensor also monitors the load condition. A warning light goes on when the maxi-mum rated weight is reached, prevent-ing overloading.

Backing up big agricultural tippers can be dangerous. To make it safer, Farmtech has developed the Safe Reverse warning system for its Durus 2000 dump tipper, and will be premiering it at Agritechnica 2015.

A NEW FARMTECH PARTNERFOR BAVARIA: EFKA-TEC

In 2002, southeastern Bavarian New Holland dealers Kamhuber (in Buch), Freilinger (Obing) and Enzinger (Thundorf) joined up to form the joint dealership EFKA-Tec OHG. The three founding members were es-tablished family-owned agricultural machine dealers and workshops. They have equal shares in the combined dealership, and their radius of action stretches from Rottal in the north to the Berchtesgaden region in the south of Bavaria. The company has 80 em-ployees and five sales reps. Together with their associated dealers, today EFKA-Tec has twelve dealerships and workshops where they can take care of farmers close to home. EFKA-Tec is an official New Holland dealer, and New Holland dealer standards serve as a guide for the entire company. In addition to Farmtech, EFKA-Tec also represents Kverneland soil and sowing machines, Trioliet feed machinery and Fella hay machines. This means

Since May of 2015 EFKA-Tec has been a Farmtech partner, and sells the entire product range in Bavaria.

EFKA-Tec covers the entire process chain for pasture and field. Also, in 2004 AMP Landtechnik GmbH was founded in Teising. AMP is an “A-deal-er” for Valtra tractors in southeast Bavaria and has 23 partners, making it one of Germany’s largest Valtra dealers. The most important thing is the right “wavelength” among the three owners, as well as a willingness to compromise in order to reach shared goals. Ex-clusive contracts with capable manu-facturers give EFKA-Tec the ability to offer high-end, innovative agricultural technology at reasonable prices.
