e Meeting patients’ pain and palliative care needs demands a balance of the best of the art and
science of caring. Challenges such as safely and effectively treating pain and maintaining resilience and presence can leave one with the feeling of staring at a blank canvas. This conference has gathered a multi-talented faculty to share the state of both the art and the science of pain management and palliative care, to inspire you with their creative presentations, and take you from that blank canvas to a larger palate of care options to create your masterpiece in meeting these vital patient needs.
This conference has broad appeal to physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals.
After completing this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Incorporate self-care strategies while caring for the terminally ill
• Understand the key findings of 25 seminal palliative care studies
• Consider how the findings from these studies apply to and impact clinical practice
• Describe and apply recent local palliative care research findings
• Describe national and local trends in opioid-related deaths
• Discuss approaches to improve opioid safety for both acute and chronic pain
• Develop and integrate strategies to support children of families
living with serious illness
• Describe the development, implementation and evaluation of a variety of bereavement resources in the acute care setting
