Psalms 34:16
The Lord is near to those who have a
BROKEN heart. And saves such as have a
CONTRITE spirit.
Contrite
something that is
‘crushed into small
particles’ or ‘ground
into powder’.
Psalm 51:16
King David said to God :
“ For You do not desire sacrifice,
or else I would give it…”
Psalms 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A
BROKEN and CONTRITE heart –
These, O God, You will not despise.
Two types of Brokenness
Worldly Brokenness
•Hopelessness
•Despair
•Depression
•Destruction
•Death
Godly Brokenness
•Repentance
•Life
•True Freedom
•Revival
•Humility
•Power
Matthew 5:3:
“ Blessed are the POOR in spirit,
For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”
“POOR” = A “beggar” .
Totally have NOTHING.
Blessed are the POOR ( The ‘beggars’) –
those who recognize that they are spiritually
destitute and bankrupt.
A BROKEN PERSON –mourns
over his own weaknesses,
sins & failures.
We want GAIN without PAIN.
We want the RESURRECTION without going
through the GRAVE.
We want LIFE without experiencing DEATH.
We want a CROWN without going the way of
the CROSS.
The way UP is DOWN!
• You want to be GREAT, you must first be a
SERVANT.
• You want to PROSPER, you must first GIVE it
away.
• You want to be SUCCESSFUL, you must
learn to SACRIFICE!
James 4:8-10
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your
hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn
and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning
and your joy to gloom.
“HUMBLES yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and
He will LIFT YOU UP.”
You and I will NEVER MEET GOD IN REVIVAL,
until we first MEET HIM IN BROKENNESS.
The Key to GREATNESS is BROKENNESS!
WHY?
2 Corinthians 2:14-15
“Now thanks to be to God who always leads us in
triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the
fragrance of his knowledge in every place. For we
are to God the fragrance of Christ among those
who are being saved and among those who are
perishing.
The wonderful fragrance –
…. The Anointing,
…. The Presence of God.
John 12:3
Then Mary took a
pound of very costly oil
of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and
wiped his feet with her
hair. And the house
was filled with the
fragrance of the oil.”
The oil of spikenard…
• Costly
• Precious
Mary had to BE WILLING to
BREAK the bottle knowing that
she could not salvage it
anymore after it was BROKEN!
2 Corinthians 4:7a
“We have this treasure (of God) in earthen
vessels…”
What is this HARD SHELL?
Outward Man =
Our “flesh”, Our “Self”
2 Corinthians 4:16
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our OUTWARD MAN is perishing, yet the
INWARD MAN is being renewed day by day.”
An Unbroken Believer?
What Is It That God Wants To Break?
He wants to break our SELF-WILL!
BREAKING A HORSE’S WILL
4 Ways That Break Us:
1. Circumstances
“Circumstances are the rulers of the weak, but they are
instruments of the wise. “
– Rick Godwin.
The Common 3 Ways That Break Us:
1. Circumstances
2. Relationships/People
Psalm 88:18 –
“Loved one and friends You have
put far from me…
4 Ways That Break Us:
1. Circumstances
2. Relationships/People
3. Sins, struggles, failures
“God is more concerned with our character
than our comfort. He is more concerned with
our growing up than our going up.”
– Rick Godwin
Kintsukuroi
“To be broken is the
beginning of revival. It is
painful, it is humiliating, but it
is the ONLY way.”
- Roy Hession
Jacob
“Jacob”: a twister, a cunning, sly person
Jacob was a man of the flesh, proud,
full of self-will and self-confidence.
Jacob wrestled
with GOD
God changed his name:
Jacob (A Cheater) to
Israel (A Prince)
“ God creates out of
NOTHING. Therefore, until a
man is NOTHING, God can
make NOTHING out of him”
- Martin Luther.
Jeremiah 18:4
And the vessel that he made of clay was
marred in the hand of the potter;
so he made it again into another vessel,
as it seemed good to the potter to make.”
Isaiah 64.7
“We are the clay and You the potter: we are
all the work of Your hands.”

“Moses spent his first forty years
thinking he was somebody.
He spent his second forty years
learning he was nobody.
He spent his third forty years
discovering what God can do with
anybody.”
-Dwight L. Moody

School Of BROKENNESS!
DO NOT PRAY THAT GOD WILL
REMOVE YOUR PAIN,
BUT RATHER, PRAY THAT HE WILL FULFILLHIS PLAN THROUGH YOUR PAIN.
