8-bit historyWe Remember...RampartBy: AtariRelease date: 1990

In Rampart, the player is in control of a set of

castles, which they must defend, by alter-

nately shooting at attacking ships (or other

players), and repairing any damage done to

them within a time limit. Surrounding this

castle is a wall, made up of small blocks, com-

pletely surrounding a region of the board.

This area is considered the player's territory,

and it may contain one or more castles, and

any number of cannons. The maintenance of

this territory is the primary focus of the game.

out of the

moreinfo :Here are some of the big names in the music world thatMerle has shared the stage and recorded with through-out his career.....

Neil McCoy, Brooks & Dunn, Johnny Cash, Toby Keith,Kansas, Grinderswitch, Roy Clark, Dirt Band, Glen Camp-bel, Bellamy Bros. , Pam Tillis, Gatlin Bros, Molly Hatchet,Ozark mt. Daredevils, Asleep at the Wheel, Rhythm Aces,Marshall Tucker, Confederate Railroad, Head East, PappaJohn Creech, BTO, Sonny Terry/Brownie, McGee, Foghat,Tommy Bolin, Statleer Bros., Gary Morris, OsmondBros., Doug Kershaw, Joe Diffy, Lamont Cranston, Dill-man Band, RamJam, Boy Howdy, Country Joe McDonald,Becky Hobbs, Willie Nelson, Duane Sciacqua, SawyerBrown and Kelly Pickler.

It all started with a 1963, $39.00 paper route fi-

nanced, Sears Silvertone, turquoise, whit pick guard,

Ritchie Cunningham, electric git-tar!

Merle's musical journey began when he was only 11

years old with his favorite 45RPM record entitled

Peppermint Twist and Rufus Thomas's Walking The

Dog. After listening to his cousin's R&R band 'The

Caskets' out of Nebraska, Merle formed his own

band at the age of 13 and called it "The Boys". After

high school, Merle, with the help of some of the

members from the BOYS, formed the Award-Win-

ning, Iowa R n R Hall of Fame, R&B show band

named The Magnificent Board of Directors.

After the breakup of the Board of Directors in 1972,

Merle linked up the Petersen brothers to form one of

Midwest's finest R&R/Southern Rock bands...lazy

Day Band. The recorded their first LP record

straight Atcha' in Oho, Iowa which the entire album

was featured on the famous radio program "Beeker

Street" KAAY, Little Rock, Arkansas. Lazy day

changed its name to Bonesteel Band and they

recorded their second album One More hour. The

Bonesteel Band was inducted into the Iowa R n R

Hall of Fame in 2003.

Post Bonesteel put merle with RCA's, Columbia's,

and Mercury/compleat's recording artist Zella Lehr

as her touring band's keyboard player. Zella is best

known for her #3 hit "Two Doors Down" a Dolly

Parton song which was later made a #1 hit on the

Pop harts. Merle joined the band just in time to en-

joy Zella's 314 chart hit "Feedin The Fire". The tour-

ing band was named the Gypsy Riders. During the

next 3 and 1/2 years Merle performed all over the

United States and even outside the U.S. Not long af-

ter Zella lost her contract with Mercury Records,

Merle quit the Gypsy Riders. However, Merle did,

for a moment, entertain an offer from the famous

50's group The Diamonds to go on the road. Merle

also spoke briefly with performer and country

singer Judy Rodman about touring with her by way

of recommendation from Becky Hobbs, one of

Nashville's biggest song writers.

For two years he stayed home with his family in

Reno, Nevada recording his own original songs

while making several trips to Nashville shopping his

music. Merle did have a little success with two of his

songs Heart Condition and Hung Up On You Baby.

Heart Condition was recorded in Nashville on the

Museum Records Label and was produced by H. L.

Miller of the legendary Stamps (one of Elvis's back-

up singers). Hung Up On You Baby was

sold to the Al Jolson studio in Nashville

to be recorded and released as an album

cut by an artist on the record label.

After moving back to Iowa Merle re-

grouped with Bob Birch, Mickey Pe-

tersen and Donny Petersen of the Bon-

esteet Band and played the club circuit

as the Just In Time band. Merle put to-

gether a recording session in Minneapo-

lis for the Bonesteel Band and the group

released a national hit single called Big

Sioux River. The song climbed to #1 on

the CME independent Chart and to #14

on the Nashville Tracker independent

Chart. The Nashville Tracker Magazine

furthered Bonesteel's success by nomi-

nating , along with DJ's all over the

United states, the band for their Group

of the Year Golden Music Award for

1999. Charlie Daniels won the ward

that year. The Bonesteel Band released

another CD in 2004 entitled "One More

Ride" which is a very unique CD containing live

cuts.

In 1994, He recorded a CD with a group called Chill

Factor, which members included Johnny Bolin,

along with Bonesteel's Bass player Bob Birch, John

Bartel and Dave Napier.

Also in 1992 -1998, Merle performed with a hot

country band called Leafy Spurge who recorded and

nationally released a single on the independent

charts on the Stargem Record label that climbed to a

no. 20. The song was titled We Had It All. Leafy

Spurge was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of

Fame.

Merle's discography consists of a long list of record-

ings and session work. He has recorded fourteen

(14) CD/Albums, five (5) singles and numerous ses-

sion jobs. Three of the released singles were nation-

al independent hits...a #1 , a #14, and a #20. He has

also cut many radio commercials throughout his

music career.

Merle presently is still out performing with The Mag-nificent Board of Directors out of Sioux City, Iowaalong with promoting his first "Solo" CD/Album "DuesPaid".
