The Presbyterian A Newsletter of the First Presbyterian Church 125 South Poplar Street, Bucyrus, OH 44820 May 2019 Exalting Christ. Denying Ourselves. Loving our Neighbors. Big Shoes to Fill It is with great sadness and thankfulness that I announce that Anya Schell, our Music Director of 25 years, will be retiring at the end of May. Anya has served faithfully with this congregation through its ups and downs, and everywhere in between. Her devotion to the sacred music of the church is inspiring, and we are so thankful that she has instructed us in the truths of God with the music she has brought before our congregation, both in content and beauty. She has touched the lives of many, and has created a great community within our choirs. There are not many who can fill the type of skill set, knowledge, and wisdom that Anya has. I, personally, am very thankful for her service to me and to our church as I have transitioned into the role of being your pastor. It would have been a difficult transition if not for her knowledge of the history of this church, as well as her deep love for this congregation. I know many of you love Anya dearly, and for good reason. She has been an invaluable gift to this church for decades. We extend our deepest thanks to her for her service, leadership, and heart of worship. I ask that you join me in thanking God for her, and praying for her in this next stage of her life. Over the summer we will be seeking to hire on a new Music Director. The Session is working diligently to develop this future position in order to meet the needs of our current vision and direction as a church. In the meantime, the Session and the Finance Team have approved a position for a Worship Leader Intern for the summer of 2019. This is a great opportunity for us to have a new voice in leadership for a short period, and a great way to be a “teaching church” that trains future leaders. If you know anyone who would be interested in a paid internship, has exceptional music skills, and is at least in college, please have them contact me ( [email protected] ) to get the job description and learn how to apply. Again, we know that finding another Anya is impossible, and we are so thankful for the uniqueness of her ability and wisdom that she brought to our church. So, please pray for her, and for the leadership of your church, as we seek to move forward faithfully, fully relying upon God’s provision for our us. For His Kingdom, Jeremy McNeill Pastor, First Presbyterian Church

We will need a few volunteers 5 days a week to distribute lunches and keep track of how many kids are served! More details to come and our vision committee can discuss details!

Thank YouOn behalf of the Crawford County Council on Aging Board of Trustees, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of $375.00 to the Meals on Wheels program. The frail and elderly in our county will benefit greatly from this donation.

Treasurer's ReportApportionment:

Each year we pay an apportionment or per capita for each active member in our congregation. The per capita is $36.00 per person this year, for a total of $3,204.00 for our 89 active, confirmed members. This money is sent to our Midwest Presbytery andour EPC General Assembly to help support all of the many ways they assist our EPC churches, missions, ministers, programs andmany other areas. We happily pay this apportionment, and we feel very blessed when our members step up and pay their personal $36.00 for each confirmed memberin their family. If you haven’t already, pleaseconsider assisting us in this area of financial support. Checks can be made out to the First Presbyterian Church and placed in the offering plate on Sunday. Please designate “Per Capita” in the memo portion of your check.

Blessings, Jan Fulton, Treasurer

Flowers and Bulletins:We have a lovely tradition in our church of donating flowers for the communion table practically every Sunday of the year. These flowers may be taken home by the giver or the Deacons are happy to bless a shut in or another member needing cheer with the flowers after the service is over. Members have also been so kind to donate a month of worship folders (bulletins). This helps defraythe cost of paper and other printing supplies we use to print. There are a few open spots on the Flower Chart and the Worship Folder lists. Flowers are $40.00 per Sunday. Michelle will order the flowers for you from Norton’s and assist you with your dedicationfor the worship folder. Remember to write a check to First Presbyterian Church for your flower order. Make a notation of “flowers” in the memo portion and place it in the offering plate on Sunday. Worship Folders are donated on a monthly basis in the amount of $25.00. Please note “worship folders” on your check.
