EMPLOYERS ARE now usingforce to stop sit-ins .Police, using dogs and teargas,were called in to evict workers froma Germiston factory recently, afterearlier attempts to break the l2 daysit-in had failed.The workers some from two com-panies, operating from the samepremises: Pan African Shopfitters,organised by Paper Wood andAllied Workers' Union, and GBEngineering, organised by Mawu .The dispute began when manage-

ment announced it was going to cutthe workforce from 300 to 100people.When management refused tobudge from its decision, the work-

opted for a sit-in .

After long negotiations, most ofthose arrested were released on8200 bail. Now they've waiting trial00 charges of arson and maliciousdamage to company property .
