David and Linda are currently on vacation and will see us in July.
Adjutant Terry Atwater
After a bit of running around and making a few calls for the best bang for
our buck regarding the printing of our newsletter, I have chosen to go with
Unicorn Printing, Inc. Here is why: For printing 200 copies as a Brochure
all in black plus folding, our cost will be $70.00. That saves us a ton of
money. It is your responsibility to notify your respective post officers when
there is any change in any of your contact information. It costs us
money each time we get a returned newsletter. Ensuring that all of
this is up to date, will save the post money. Also, I will no longer
mass E-mail the Gazette; it seems a bit redundant. I will, however, contin- ue to add it to our web site.
June has been a busy month. Legion Baseball is in full “swing”. We
had Palmetto Girls and Boys State, Department Convention, and many of
our auxiliary and legion members have been busy with community and
military events. And, a Facebook page for the Post is up and running. I am
still working on a power-point presentation to be used for recruiting new
members as well as educating our community about the American Legion.
The post, in general, is at 94% membership. I would love us to get
that last 6%. I have begun working a bit closer with our auxiliary unit and
am looking forward to obtaining a stronger and more shared informative
bond.
I have received our new membership cards for 2017. Early Bird
Award for Post requires us to have 100% in By Sept.. Lets go for
this This year. Regardless of the date due shown on our cards.
Congratulations: Department Commander
Bob Scherer

Unit 7 sent 15 girls to Palmetto Girls State this
year. Caroline Morrison was selected to attend the
Tarheel Girls State from 6/12-6/15. Caroline is the
granddaughter of Red and Doris Reynolds. Sydney
Griffith, from Chapin SC also attended Palmetto
Girls State. She is the granddaughter of David and
Linda Griffith . All the girls appreciate Unit 7 giving
them the wonderful opportunity to spend the week
at Presbyterian College learning more about gov-
ernment, cooperation, and other good qualities and
making long-lasting friendships. Some refer to it as
an amazing and life-changing experience. One girl
wrote that it was incredible! More than 600 girls
attended June 5-11 and some will be with us on a
holiday weekend to share their enthusiasm! Thanks
to all Legion and Auxiliary members who helped our
youth in this way.
This has been a good year for Boys State at
Post 7. We had a total of 33 Boys attend Boys
State and all returned singing the praises about
all they had learned during the week, and how
it has changed their life. We sent some amaz-
ing young people to Boys State. And many of
you had the opportunity to meet and talk with
some of them at our July 2nd Meeting. Boys
State is one of the top programs that the Le-
gion does for youth . By the way, this year, we
helped Boys State set a new record for attend-
ance. The total number of boys attending this
year was 1106. How about that! They are some
of South Carolina’s Finest Young Men .
