Thank you for making our 20th Anniversary a great success!
Poshard Foundation Distributes $400,000 in
COVID-19 Response Funds
The Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund was created for the purpose of
disbursing individual, corporate and foundation donations to nonprofit
organizations serving individuals, families and communities hit hardest
by the pandemic. Upon being approved for funding, the Poshard
Foundation targeted children and their families in 23 Southern Illinois
counties through a network of 34 different agencies. “We are so grateful,”
said Jo Poshard, “for the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund support. This
enabled us to help thousands of children in our area in a very quick
timeframe. Our network of organizations identified the children with the
greatest needs.
The entire $400,000 was spent on nutritional food, medical care, basic supplies, family self-care, hygiene products,
educational resources, behavioral and mental health services and other therapeutic necessities for these children.”
Glenn Poshard emphasized that children and their families are struggling to survive. “Many of these children come from
families of minimum wage earners who are now completely out of work. They don’t have sufficient food and normally
have to use the hospital emergency room for medical care which is nearly impossible with the coronavirus spread. Since
schools have been closed, the children have been basically cut off from counselors, and counselors cannot visit their
homes. These children are desperately struggling and need us now more than ever.”
Jo Poshard said, “In order to move these resources to the children as quickly as possible through the network of social
service agencies, our Foundation has been assisted greatly by the IL-HEALS PARTNERS, Egyptian Health Department,
the Stress and Trauma Treatment Center, as well as Southern Illinois University’s School of Medicine. We are beyond
grateful for their support.”

Food Pantries
Receive Help!
The Poshard Foundation
distributed $50,000 in grants
to 27 area food pantries
across 16 Southern Illinois
counties in March 2020. The
grants required the purchase
of food supporting the
nutritional needs of children
particularly in light of school
closings due to the spread of
COVID-19. “We wanted to
get ahead of the curve
because it looks like this
virus is long lasting,” said
Glenn Poshard. “Federal
and state legislation is
already emphasizing food
security for children who are
home and are not having regular meals through the schools.”
Area food pantries receiving grants include: Ava-Trico Area Food
Pantry, Benton-West City Ministerial Alliance, Bethel Temple Evangelistic
Ministries, Carterville United Pantry, Christian Community Compassion

Ho! Ho! Ho!
Holiday joy surrounded the Poshard Foundation and its volunteer
elves on December 11 and 12, 2019, while agency representatives
shopped for toys and gifts for abused, abandoned, and neglected
children in Southern Illinois.
Richard Clark of
Tri-State Business
Equipment in
Harrisburg arrived
with his truck full of
toys from his annual
Christmas party where
each guest brought a
new toy for a child in
need. We received a
grant from Ameren
Illinois for toys, and
community members
made donations specifically designated for Christmas gifts for
children. We also received handmade quilts, totes, crocheted caps,
stuffed animals, and gloves through the generosity of several
individuals and groups. Over the two-day giveaway, we distributed
items valued at nearly $15,000 to 418 children.
The Costs of
Helping
On July 25, 2019, in
coordination with
Prevent Child Abuse
Illinois, the Poshard
Foundation sponsored
a training on trauma
informed care
practices, with a
specific focus on
self-care and
compassion satisfaction. Dr. Matt Buckman, a
licensed clinical psychologist, assisted
participants in exploring their values and
developing a self-care plan to revive and
remember their passions for helping others.
The training, at no cost to participants, was held
on the John A. Logan College campus and had
91 attendees representing 30 different cities and
51 organizations.
