working for Goldman Sacks as investment bankers, Ravi Jain and Adam Paolozza were sent packing with a golden parachute. Now, with grim public opinion hanging over them, Jain and Paolozza, have arrived in Edinburgh to tell their story only to fail once again.

Despite the US Treasury bailing out Goldman Sachs to the tune of $12.9 million, Jain and Paolozza received contributions of only $170 Million each, barely enough to pay for their personal dermatologist or their organic chef.

Public opinion, however, held little sympathy for the ousted pair, instead condemning their career path. The Canadian duo decided it was time to tell their side of the story. Armed with just six tailored suits and two cardboard signs, Jain and Paolozza’s parachute capital quickly became absorbed in Festival overheads; marketing, venue hire, props, champagne riders.

Little did they know that few in Edinburgh care about their plight. Every day hoping and praying that crowds would flood in off the streets to hear their cries of woe, Jain and Paolozza have instead played

to meagre audiences made up of uninterested passers-by.

Now, three weeks in, Jain and Paolozza are pleading to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Office for a bailout of their show. “This is a tragedy that CAN be averted” urged the pair, “and we urge the Fringe Central Bank to come to the right decision and Bailout SPENT!”

The decision to bailout SPENT will have knock-on consequences for Festival Fringe shows across the board, particularly by lowering credit ratings. Appointments

Utilising his oceans of gypsy violin charm, one Fringe performer has managed to turn a tiny investment into a stellar success story. Starting with just £80, Aindrias De Staic has spent the year touring globally before storming the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this month.

Ahead of 2012, Aindrias De Staic seeks investment of monetary and intellectual capital, forecasting an exponential growth in ticket sales.

In 2007 De Staic performed at Edinburgh Festival Fringe without being listed in the ‘bible’ Fringe brochure. All the gypsy fiddler peddled was a few hand-drawn flyers and an old fiddle. Now, still with little more (besides a collection of international awards), he has returned to Pleasance with a perfected version of the 2007 Fringe show that made his name.

De Staic has never worked with any professional promoters, PRs, sponsors, managers or consultants. Yet despite such restrictions, he represents a benchmark in the globalisation of commercial fiddling, performing, as he has, across Europe, Asia and Australasia.

Now though, De Staic anticipates growth that will benefit from angel investment. Launching his tour and Edinburgh run this year, De Staic injected capital amounting to £80. He now seeks investment of up to £150 for onward performance development.

Consultations until 29th August in Pleasance Courtyard daily at 22:45.

Analysis - Average Fringe Comedian’s DayIn his show Seven Years in the Bathroom, Alex Horne bases an hour-long routine on the

breakdown of an average lifetime. Although interesting on a macro level, Horne himself admits that the statistics are somewhat removed from the lifestyle of a comedian at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (ie. himself.)

Financial Pleasance Times has therefore constructed a more accurate, specifically focussed data set; a breakdown of the average Edinburgh Festival Fringe comedian:

ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will, over the course of an hour, be responsible for following the trials and tribulations of our hero Joe, hurled by unexpected redundancy into a world of CVs and applications, waiting rooms and interviews, rejections and humiliations, near-triumphs and tempting offers, all in his quest for his dream job and, maybe, the love of his life.

salaryNone. But the job comes with significant perks, including being located at our prestigious, igloo-like HQ in the Pleasance Courtyard, and the opportunity to enjoy daft skits, a dash of romance, and 10 newly-penned songs including “Are you the Man?”, “Chill Out or be Jobless for Life” and “Deal of a Lifetime”. Plus a company car, but unfortunately we can’t guarantee a parking space anywhere within a five-mile radius.

Key skillsThe ideal candidate will have a taste for smart observational comedy, an ear for a good tune and an eye for an above-averagely-attractive cast. Loud laughter, raucous applause and the ability to release an impassioned “whoop whoop” at showstopping moments are also appreciated. A tolerant attitude to slightly unforgiving seating is desirable.

NB: We understand that everyone is economical with the facts on their CV, but please make your lies convincing, persuasive and preferably entertaining.

Experience requiredKnowledge of Modus Operandi’s previous musical extravaganzas will come in handy, including An Asylum on Every Corner (which played at the Edinburgh Festival four years ago) and last year’s The London Revue. Some experience of other new musicals will also help the successful candidate to realize that this stands above most in its flair, originality and entertainment factor.

INvITATION TO LEcTurE: JAcquES TATI, ThE cOmEDy Of A TruLy grEAT cLOwNby chris cresswell (‘magicians do Exist’)

You are cordially invited to an illustrated, illuminated and interactive lecture on the life and work of the great – yet chronically overlooked – comic talent, Jacques Tati.

Jacques Tati was French, but we shouldn’t let that stand in the way. I’m German. You’re probably Scottish. Some people are even English. Common consensus holds that Tati was a master clown, mime and film-maker who gave us the unforgettable – though now largely forgotten – comic creation, Monsieur Hulot. As a specialist on Jacques Tati, I hope to redress this imbalance of memory in some small way with a tribute to infotainment sequences.

A master film-maker, Jacques Tati made five films in his career; three comedy classics and two disasters (the latter often similarly categorized as comedy classics). Each film should be watched multiple times in order to glean a full understanding. Tati’s comedy is not for morons. His comedy is an intelligent, thoughtful and choreographed observation of human interaction. Tati’s final film was set in Edinburgh. Sadly, he never saw its release owing to his being dead at the time. Unlike Tati’s other films it is a cartoon, which is strange if you think about it and which I will discuss fully in the course of my lecture. The film was made by Sylvain Chomet, who also created Belleville Rendezvous. It’s called The Illusionist. Chomet is French as well, but we shouldn’t let that stand in the way either.

A lecture, to conclude, about the comedy of truly great clown.
