That most wonderful time of the year is approaching yet again. No, no, put away those stripy

wool sweaters and roasted chestnuts — we’re talking PIERSON DAY 2011! On Monday, April 25 (unlike most years, Pierson Day 2011 is on a Monday instead of a Saturday because of con-flicts with Easter Weekend), chaos will swamp the courtyard as Piersonites young and old unite to celebrate the college we love best. For 2011, the Shore is no more; this year’s theme is Dr. Seuss, so come prepared for silli-ness and surprise appearances by your

favorite Seuss-tastic characters. For those less familiar with Pier-son Day traditions, the atmosphere is like that of a carnival or fairground. Think snow cones of all colors, a cot-ton candy machine, inflatable rides and fun games, as well as all kinds of prizes. The fiesta begins at lunchtime, with a special outdoors buffet catered by our lovely Pierson dining hall staff. After the crowd and the food settle down, the Pierson charity auction begins, with opportunities to bid on everything from homebaked cupcakes to knitting lessons to dinners at res-

taurants from Master G. All proceeds from this year’s auction will go towards Relay for Life and cancer research. However, the undisputed highlight of the day is always JELLO WRES-TLING. After what appears to be much heated debate and deliberation, the Pierson Social Council has announced to the

eagerly awaiting world the “STUPENDOUS, HISTORY-MAKING PIERSON PRIME-EVIL WEEKEND” which will be held on April 18, two weeks after the return to classes. The weekend, described as ‘fun for the whole family’, by chairman van Loan, will feature a number of activities for the day and night of the 18th. The preparations for the weekend will begin immediately upon return to the college, as a gigantic Beard Growing Contest will be commenced. Prizes for the best beards in several categories will be awarded at the afternoon celebra-tion on the 19th which will be presided over by Mr. Original Sin, who will be de-termined by a ballot the week before. The afternoon’s activities will be the re-vival of one of Pierson’s most enjoyable, if not viable, traditions, the PIG PEN OLYMPICS. An Olympic flame will be ignited by Mr. Original Sin, and it is to be hoped that Pierson spirit will be sparked in the more traditional ways. Events of the Olym-pics will included Pie Eating contests, the ever popular Virgin Carry, tugs of war, and other friendly acts of rivalry as can be devised by the committee. The high point of the afternoon will be the releasing of several greased pigs with the thought that hopefully they will be caught by members of the assembled throng. In the evening the Prime-Evil theme will be continued with what is scheduled to be the “Cave Man Brawl.” It is thought that this refers more to the spirit of the dance than to the costume, which may be more tra-ditional than that which graced Pierson’s last dance. In any event, music for Pier-son’s Neanderthals will be provided by the Five Satins and the Dukanes. The Social Council hopes that the members of the college will take an active part in the events of the weekend and get what is hoped to be an annual Pierson event off to a flying start.

shirt is great retribution, and you can even learn to set aside differences and work together by throwing mutual friends or enemies into the pit. All jokes aside, Pierson Day is one of the most wonderful moments of the year, with the entirety of Pierson College

sharing grass-space, sunshine, photo-ops, and laughter together. It’s one of those days that you want to last for a very long time. Just watch out for the flying Jello.Special thanks to PSAC and the Pierson Dining Hall for making this day possible year after year. We love you guys!

Last yeas, ONE PIT, filled with; - 14 TRASH CANS of yellow Jello, which is - 476 GALLONS of water and powder, which takes - THREE DAYS to set!THIS year is bigger and better, wetter and wilder!=> Larger pit = 18 cans = 612 gallons of Jell-O = waaaaay bigger splat factor. And for the vegetarians who don’t feel the love: 42 POUNDS of veggie baked beans. BE THERE!

Pierson Day

Pierson Intramural Players have had a phenomenal spring season, capping a strong year and setting up a bright future in the fall. And it’s true not because I’m biased but because it was in the YDN and

everything printed must be true. “’Pierson has shown massive improve-ment this year,’ [Head intramural secretary] Jasinski said” (YDN: 3/30/11). Some broad highlights of the year: surviving the fall season, reaching five playoffs in the winter season, and a forfeit-free spring season. See? Our expectations and achievements are going up. Eleventh place is going to be so easy to get next year.Among the driving forces behind multiple Pierson wins are the fantastic turnout and skills of the class of 2014 and the wisdom of soon-to-be parting seniors. To Katie Yanagisawa, Brian Agredano, Henry Foote, Andy Gordon, Greg Lawler, Bing Luo, Will Stratton, John Swisher, Steve Winter, Alex Zhu, and the rest of the 2011 PIMPs: thanks for a great four years and we ‘ll miss you! We know you’ll keep it pimpin’ in the real world.

- Christine Chen, IM secretary

PIMPs First at Life this Spring

Meyer, Ceci Wright, and Francesca Yi) for being there for the class of 2014 all year and wish them all a bright and suc-cessful real life, We would also like to congratulate Kevin

Hoffman, Adam George, Ashley Lamica, Destiny Tolliver, Alex Milvae, Rhea Catapano, John Martin, and Eliza Scheffler for

becoming next year’s batch of Frocos!

To guide you along the road to victory, we recommend you listen to the advice of previous, triumphant captains.

From Sinead O’Brien ’13: Pierson 2013 won because of the number of people that came and participated. We had many more people participate than most colleges, and our teamwork and organization was key to our success Josh Satok ’13: Also, make sure that there are enough people at every event and that people get to play in what they want to play at. Plan ahead for the dance, because we had awe-some people plan an awesome dance that blew everyone away. Make sure throughout the day that people are show-ing up to the events that they’re supposed to be at, and keep everyone excited.

Kevin Hoffman ‘12: I agree; get out there and play! Brag-ging rights! Get that section @$$hole out in dodgeball! Show off your duck-duck-goose skills! ENTHUSIASM is the key.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Remember that Pierson has won 3 out of the last 4 years. The other colleges may waste their time worrying about the silly Tyng Cup, but we in Pierson know that the true test of the greatest college is who wins Freshman Olympics. Come on Pierson 2014! GET OUT THERE AND WIN!!!

Freshman FrenzyDearest Freshmen of Pierson College, Honor. Glory. Pride. On April 9th you will have the greatest opportunity of your lives: the chance to parade around Old Campus and Pierson College celebrating your vic-tory, having just annihilated every other college in Freshman Olympics. If this doesn’t sound like a big deal to you, then you are wrong, very, very wrong. It is a big freakin’ deal. For, when you win freshman Olympics, you win eternal fame for Pierson College. In the battlefield that is Old Campus you prove your worth as a Piersonite. To participate in the games is a Yale tradition. To win the games is a Pierson Tradition. We expect you to do both. Freshman Olympics is a great way for all of Pierson 2014 to come together and show Yale who they are. Sure, we may reside in 12th place in IMs, but use this to your advan-tage! No-one expects the college in last place to come out on top. Yale 2012 and 2013 fell for this, and they fell hard. In the two years before you were sorted into the mag-nificent college of Pierson, the previous classes dominated in their Freshman Olympics. PC 2012 ended the event in a three way tie but emerged victorious on the next day; this paved the way for PC 2013 to keep the tradition alive. The torch has been passed on to you young grasshoppers. You MUST preserve Pierson’s honor. For God, for country, for Master G, for Dean Fabbri, and for Pierson. We love the Pierson Class of 2011 most dearly. Really, we do. But, you see, we have still not quite forgiven our darling Pierson seniors for having failed to do what you will succeed in doing. For, when you win next Saturday, the words of the YDN reporter Ms. Griswold will ring true once again: “This year’s win makes Pierson’s class of 2011 the only currently enrolled class of Piersonites not to win the Freshman Olym-pics. They placed last.” So if any of your senior friends have shrugged off April 9th as just another day, be suspicious, be very suspicious, and prove them wrong by making history.
