PASTORAL CARE: We are blessed to have an active Pastoral Care team at St. Catherine of Siena. We visit our parishioners at St. Vincent’s and Bridgeport Hospitals, area nursing homes, as well as at home.
Our goal is to ensure that all of our sick and homebound parishioners are spiritually cared for.
We need your help to know whom to visit! Contact the Parish Office if you or someone you know, who is a parishioner, needs a visit. When you go to St. Vincent’s or Bridgeport Hospital, or any area nursing home, please alert them that you are a registered member of the Parish of St. Catherine of Siena.

Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, burns this week in prayerful remembrance of
Frances Barvenik
The Sanctuary Lamp is available to be memorialized each week. The offering to dedicate the candle next to

IN MEMORIAM
The Parish of Saint Catherine of Siena extends to the families of
Brian Ervin Castle, and Robert A. Bender
whose Funeral Masses were celebrated here at St. Catherine’s, our prayerful sympathy in
the hope of Christ’s Resurrection.
God bless you!
Father Marcello
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our first week at the McClinch Family Center, which will be our home for Mass and the sacraments for the next few months as work continues on the CHRIST AT THE CENTER project to beautify and enhance the sanctuary of our church.
Having conferred with our General Contractor and with our Parish Staff, it has become clear that it would be cleaner and more efficient for us to remain in the Family Center until the project is complete and we move back into the church in December.
During this time, the life of the parish will continue largely unchanged. Regular office hours at the Halloran Pastoral Center will continue as normal. St. Catherine of Siena School and Religious Education will also continue as normal.
As I mentioned last week, please note the following:
· Funerals during the next few months will be held at neighboring parishes, with St. Catherine’s clergy officiating, and St. Catherine’s musicians, and Mary Ellen Kovacs, assisting.
· If a family would like a funeral in the McClinch Family Center, we are able to accommodate that. We had a funeral in the Family Center this week, and it worked out well.
· The Sacrament of Confession will continue to be available in the confessional in the lobby of the church on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., but Eucharistic Adoration will not take place until we move back into the church. There will also be no regularly scheduled Saturday confessions until we move back into the church.
· *For Tuesday evening confessions: note that access to the lobby of the church will be only through the front and side doors of the church lobby.
· Baptisms will be held in the Family Center.
This is a temporary inconvenience for a permanent improvement. And, working together, with patience and kindness, we will soon be able to enjoy together the renewed and beautified sanctuary of our church.
As I mentioned last weekend, we’ll leave the side door of the church (near the pulpit) open after all of the Masses on Sunday, so you can come in and take a look around as the project progresses from week to week.
As always, I am happy to answer any questions that anyone may have. Don’t hesitate to contact me personally.
f A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR f
Low Gluten Hosts Available:
Celiac disease affects many people. Those suffering from Celiac cannot
ingest gluten. If you or a family member would benefit from a low gluten host, or from the Precious
Blood, at the celebration of the Eucharist, please see a Priest or
Deacon in the Sacristy before Mass.
Next Sunday’s Gospel:
NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Next weekend’s Sunday Gospel read-ing is provided here, so that we can think and pray about it, and be ready to receive it into our minds and hearts when it is proclaimed at Mass.
The Jews murmured about Jesus be-cause he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven, " and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Jo-seph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" Jesus an-swered and said to them, "Stop mur-muring among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Fa-ther and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Fa-ther except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eter-nal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live for-ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." John 6:41-51

BACK PACK AND SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who has already generously donated so many great backpacks and school supplies. The first group of donations has been delivered and we are off and running to a fantastic start!
The overall response of the donations as well as the volunteers willing to help has been overwhelming. And we are very grateful!
Please continue to fill our ‘Little Bus Boxes,’ which have been relocated to the
McClinch Family Center Lobby and help students in need. As always, if you would like to volunteer, please reach out to us.
INITIAL TEAM MEETING:
Our first team meeting will take place this Wednesday, August 8, at 6:30pm
in the McClinch Family Center. Everyone is welcome!
Please consider joining us for this meet and greet, info session and goal setting meeting. No commitment required. All we ask is for those that feel the Holy Spirit calling them to come and listen.
FEAST DAY OF SAINT DOMINIC
August 8 is also the Feast Day of Saint Dominic. Tradition tells us that the Holy Rosary was instituted and authored by Saint Dominic as an antidote to the Albigensian heresy.
Consider spending some time on Wednesday praying the Rosary for our outreach program and our Priests and Deacons, but also, for those who live every day in need. Pray that we can reach some of them through the Grace of God.
If you want to join a team that values our neighbors as ourselves... If you are not sure what you can offer but feel the Spirit nudging you...
If you know someone that is in need, or if you are in need...

Music Notes: BREAD OF LIFE DISCOURSE
This Sunday, we begin the Bread of Life Discourse. This is a portion of the teaching of Jesus found in the Gospel of Saint John, Chapter 6:22-59. Liturgically, we will hear this teaching in sections, divided over the next several Sundays. As such, the liturgical music for our weekend Masses will focus intentionally on the Holy Eucharist.
The text of the communion hymn this weekend, “Panis Angelicus” (Latin for “Bread of Angels”) was written by Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) for the Feast of Corpus Christi, and is taken from a larger work "Sacris solemniis".
The melody of the hymn was composed by Louis Lambilotte, S.J. (1796-1855), who is perhaps best known for the melody of the Pentecost Hymn “Come, Holy Ghost”. The text of this hymn highlights the great importance of the Eucharist as the “Living bread from heaven”, and the “wondrous gift” that is Jesus Christ, “true, real, and substantial manner: his Body and his Blood, with his soul and his divinity (CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, NO. 1413).
Thank you!

The Bread of Angels is made the Bread of man today:
the Living Bread from heaven with figures dost away: O wondrous gift indeed! the poor and lowly may
upon their Lord and Master feed.
Thee, therefore, we implore, o Godhead, One in Three,
so may Thou visit us as we now worship Thee; and lead us on Thy way, That we at last may see
the light wherein Thou dwellest.
Panis angélicus fit panis hóminum; dat panis cáelicus figúris términum; O res mirábilis:

“To those who have been far away from the Sacrament of Reconciliation and God’s forgiving love, I make this appeal:
Come back to this source of grace; Do not be afraid! Christ himself is waiting for you.
He will heal you, and you will be at peace with God!”
- POPE ST. JOHN PAUL II
