It seems impossible that the same amount of time has elapsed from Easter to Ascension Thurs- day as from the First Sunday of Lent to Holy Thursday, perhaps as the days start getting nicer, the time seems to go faster! So we will, as is customary in many of the Dioceses of the United States, celebrate the Feast of the Ascension as a holy day of obligation. The Masses for the Feast of the Ascension will be a Vigil Mass at 4:00 PM, Wednesday May 9th, and Masses at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM on Thursday, May 10th. Then 9 days (the original novena) remain until the Season of Easter concludes with the Feast of Pentecost, which is Sunday, May 20th this year. So, from Ash Wednesday through Lent, the Triduum and Easter to Pentecost, our Paschal Season totals 96 days. As we look back on these days, a significant portion of our year to date, we might try to identify how have we experienced a “dying” with Christ in Lent in order to be “rising” to new life with Him in Easter? Congratulations to our First Communi- cants: On this weekend at a special Mass on Sunday, at 12:30 PM, the young people who have been preparing to do so will be receiv- ing the Eucharist for the first time. Let us pray for them and their families at this im- portant step in their lives as Catholics. Many thanks to their parents, grandparents and godparents, their catechists and all who have inspired them and guided them to this very special day, may it be the first of many recep- tions of communion each Sunday across a lifetime on their way to the Kingdom’s ban- quet! Traditional May Procession: On next Sun- day, Mother’s Day, at the end of the 10:30 AM Mass, we will honor our Blessed Mother as we honor and pray for all our mothers, living and deceased, by holding a special May Procession and Crowning of an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We have acquired a new Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary for this very purpose and invited our First Com- municants back to form the procession and to perform the crowning, but we especially invite all who remember this traditional de- votion for the month of May to be present and to participate in the singing of the famil- iar hymns. The crowned image of Mary will remain in the sanctuary for the remainder of May. Any Team Players? The parish pastoral council is forming two teams, each with a very specific focus and a limited time to ac- complish some important tasks. One team will be asked to identify an approach to reach out to inactive Catholics that would most likely be effective in our parish. The other team will create a strategic plan for the parish in conjunction with the diocese wide strategic planning that is being initiated by our bishop. To be effective, the teams will have no more than ten members, only three of whom may be from the Parish Council; if you would like to be considered for member- ship on either of these teams, please submit your name to the parish office. Adult Bible Study: As First Communion will prevent the class from being held this weekend, the video for next lesson, Unit 15, “The Return From Exile” will be shown after the 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday, May 13th, and, as that is Mother’s Day, it will also be shown on Monday, May 14th at 7:00 PM if necessary. As Confirmation will be celebrat- ed on Sunday, May 20th at 12:30 PM, the next class after the 13th/14th will be Sunday, May 27th after the 10:30 AM Mass. As Unit 17 will be the final class on the Old Testa- ment, that will be final class for this season; we will resume with be the five lessons on the New Testament in September. If many are prevented from attending the final class on the 27th, then Unit 17 will be presented again on Sunday, June 2nd.

LIFE LINESMay we treat one another with love that reflects the sacredness of human life.

Word of Life

May the Holy Spirit strengthen us to share in word and show in action, respect for God’s gift of life. Word of Life

May God grant us courage to embrace his precious gift of life, even in the most dif-ficult of circumstances. Word of Life
