President’s Message Welcome to the new 2021/2022 year of PAQA!

Welcome to our new board members and committee chairs, guild members and welcome back to a year of in-person fellowship beginning in September. I want to personally thank our outgoing board and committee members for their steadfast commitment to sustaining our group though the past year, going above and beyond to keep us “meeting”, learning, and creating together.

I’ve been thinking about these last 15 months of restrictions upon restrictions and mar-veling at the resilience of quilters individually and as a world-wide community. Did quilting nourish you? What projects did you challenge yourself with that you may not have attempted without the additional time spent at home? Are your UFOs decreased in number? Did you discover new online sources to fill your quilting needs? Like me, do you have more new projects waiting than you did last March? By now you should have received your envelope containing your paint chip and challenge rules. Are you already in the planning stages or well on your way?

I’ll be taking my first “vacation” in more than two years next week. I’m even braving fly-ing! I’ll be doing my own little shop-hop through Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland and quilting till the wee hours with my dear friend, Kathy. I hope you find time to do a bit of traveling during this summer. Won’t it be lovely to spend time with friends and family again?

I look forward to seeing everyone in person soon. I have many names and faces to learn!

And sew it goes… Sharon

Dear Friends,

This is the last newsletter from Anna and Sandy. It however is not the last you will hear from us.

We have enjoyed this past year. Next month you will see a new board. WELCOME.

Had a bunch of giggles on Sunday making sock monkeys. I'm not sure how much we accomplished but it sure was fun. The creative juices were flowing. Santa monkeys, ballerina monkeys, superman monkeys the possibilities are endless. The monkeys are for our booth at Rusty Barn in Septem-ber. It's a great project in front of the T.V. Idle hands.....etc.

Also received my paint chip. Cranking up the brain cells. This should be fun.

We both want to thank everyone for the support they have given us. Your involvement kept PAQA moving forward. We even enjoyed the addition of some new members during a very difficult time.

Welcome to PAQA to the newbies. Looking forward to meeting in person in September.

We enjoyed a very creative program and website person that kept us in touch with each other.

We also kept up our commitment to AASK with all the piecing, binding, quilting etc.

Last but not least, summer is here, I must go sew.

Thank you all for the support.

Sandy Carmichael co-president with Anna Lichtenberg

July Block of the Month The link for the July BOM is https://paqa.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/NZ2016BOM-7.pdf.

It uses the Wagon Wheel and Fan template from Nancy Zieman. If you don’t have one, print out the image at 100% at this link: https://paqa.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Wagon-Wheel-template.pdf

Unfortunately, there is an error in the directions. It says you should cut an arc between the 12” and 10” lines, but that doesn’t work. It ends up looking like the last picture be-low. If you do it this way, that’s okay; you can just align the inner edges and trim the excess that hangs over the outside of the block. A different look, a narrower “wave” but fine as it is.

In order to make it fit and look like the image in the directions, you should cut an arc between the 12” and 9” lines instead. It will look more like a wave.

Sandy Carmichael called the meeting to Order at 6:58pm.

Meeting Minutes for May were approved.

Welcome given to new Board members attending Zoom meeting.

Phone calls went out to all members informing them of September meeting back at the church, and inviting those who can come to the Sock Monkey sit and sew at 35th Avenue on June 30.

Sharon Mayer reminded everyone of the need of volunteer(s) to open the church for the sit and sew prior to the meeting. Suggested that it did not need to be the same person every month.

Sharon Mayer also proposed moving the Board meeting from the Tuesday following the 1st THursday PAQA meeting to the last Thursday of the month. A Board meeting has been scheduled for June 24th at 6:00pm (as some members will be in a lat-er time zone, and will discuss this further at that time.
