Communication is defined as “A giving or exchanging of information, messages, etc.” We received the following E-mailfrom a TCH parent and thought it was worth sharing. The message is not just about the school, but the job that the schooland the family is doing to instill Christian, moral values in our students.

“I had to email you and tell you how impressed I was with your football players, coaches, cheerleaders andstudent body on Friday (when Austin Proctor got hurt). I know you saw them—first the football team thenthe others— gather together and pray as a group! It was so incredible and moving to me as an adult andparent to see your students take control in a positive way. I noticed that no adult told them to do it either! Youshould be so proud of them for doing the right, mature thing when feeling like they were in a crisis!”

This publication is one of the many tools which we use to communicate to our school community important dates, thoughts,and expectations. On October 16, we will hold our annual Parent-Teacher Conference day. Students will not attend classesthat day. All teachers will be in their classrooms to distribute report cards and meet with parents to discuss the first quartergrades of our students. This is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to communicate with each other and structurea format for success for each and every student.

TCH Rebels from the past fifty-years will gather together this month as we celebrate Homecoming 2006 on Friday, October13. We have changed the activity schedule so that all of our celebration will take place that day. Our Homecoming liturgywill take place at 8:36 a.m. We will have a combined lunch with the students being treated to bar-b-que hamburgers. We willend the school day in the Rebel Dome with a pep rally. All alumni are invited to a social before the game at Clark Field. Ihope that you will personally witness the enthusiasm and energy that ahomecoming brings to a school community.

As a school, we work very hard to recognize and communicate themany wonderful and exciting achievements of our students as witnessedduring our recent Fall Awards ceremony. We have had an exciting startto the school year. The excitement that the new classroom building hasbrought to our students and teachers is tremendous. The atmosphere atour weekly liturgical celebrations and prayer services has been the bestI have ever seen. There is a relationship between what you try tocommunicate and teach and how students act and react when you leastexpect it. TCH attempts to do its part, but, it takes family to achieve

what was witnessed at Clark Field.

IMPORTANT HOMECOMING DRESSINFORMATION!

IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS GOING TOTHE HOMECOMING DANCE ORYOUR SON IS BRINGING A DATE,PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWINGCAREFULLY:

In the past female students have beenpretty good about watching what theywear to prom and homecoming. Lastyear’s prom was very disappointing.Many girls had to be stopped at thedoor for their dresses being too lowcut. So I am letting parents know nowthat if a dress is not moderately cut,the student will not be let in. Plungingnecklines or deep “V” cuts in the frontof a dress have no place at a Catholichigh school dance. It is veryembarrassing to have a young lady

come to the door with a top that is notappropriate. If a dress is lower thanthe waist in the back or shorter thanfour inches from the knee, they will notbe let in. We do allow straplessdresses as long as the top is highenough to cover appropriately.

If a boy invites a girl from anotherschool, it is his responsibility to relaythis information to the girl. Our dresscode is in the parent/studenthandbook. Please make sure youmonitor what your child buys andwears to the dance. In order to beconsistent, it is our decision on whatis appropriate, not the opinion of 678parents. Please call me with anyquestions or concerns.

DANCE ATTIRE GUIDELINES

A. TOPS1. The neckline of a dress, top, or gown must be cut in a modest

way. If ANY cleavage is showing, the student will be asked to leave the dance.Spaghetti straps or strapless dresses are allowed, as long as they are not lowcut.

2. The cut of a dress in the back must not be below the waistline.

B. LENGTH1. A skirt or dress must be no shorter than four (4) inches from

the knee.2. Slits in a long dress/skirt may be no higher than the knee.

Slits in a short dress/skirt may be no higher than four (4) inches from the knee.

C. MISCELLANEOUS

1. No midriff is allowed to show, (when arms are raised only one(1) inch of the midriff can show.)

2. No navel is allowed to show.3. The bodice of the dress must not have any fabric cutouts (this

includes openings covered with net-like fabric.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Admittance to the dance, with consideration of attire,will be left to the discretion of the faculty/administration sponsors who arepresent that evening. If a student is in doubt as to the expected modesty of hisor her chosen attire, he or she should consult with administration before thedance to avoid the embarrassment of being turned away.

PARKING SPOTSThere are no parking spots left atthis time! Mrs. Baudier has a waitinglist month by month as spots maycome open. She will get with thestudents and inform them. Pleasedo not call about parking spots. Weunderstand that everyone wants todrive, but we only have so muchroom.

Progress ReportsProgress reports were issued on Sept. 13. Every

student received one. Report cards will be issued to parentson parent-teacher conference day, Monday, Oct. 16.

Progress reports are just that – reports on studentprogress. By the time you receive the progress report, thegrade has already changed. K-12 Planet will give you a moreup-to-date idea of your student’s grades.

If the progress report was not what you expect fromyour student, remember that time remains before the firstquarter report card is issued. That gives any student who iswilling to put in the effort the time to “fix” a low grade. Thecomment on the progress report generally lets you know whatif there is a problem in the class and what it is (ex. “needs tocomplete assignments”). If you are concerned about yourstudent’s grades, contact the teacher either by email or phone.Before you panic, check K-12 Planet to see if the grade haschanged for the better. For many students, just seeing a lowgrade on the progress report kicks the student’s attitude intohigh gear.

A quick word to freshman parents: for some students,depending on the elementary attended, it takes a few weeksto adjust to high school. It is possible that your student nowrealizes that homework does count and must be turned in,that tests are harder and one must study, and that the workloadis considerably more than in elementary school. Mostfreshmen do learn to balance the increasing workload withthe additional freedom that high school brings. For some itjust takes longer than others. If you are concerned about yourstudent’s adjustment, please call Coach Milton Rohm, our 9th-10th grade guidance counselor.

140-plus make-ups in two weeks!Important changes to the make-up test policy

Mrs. Linda Doherty gave over 140 make-up testsduring the first two weeks of school. As a result, we have madesome changes to our make-up test policy (Handbook pg. 24).Mrs. Doherty will be in her classroom (Room 26) every morningat 6:30 to give the make-up tests. No one will be admittedafter 6:45 a.m.

If a student will miss a test because of a school-relatedactivity, the student has two options:1. The test may be taken the morning of the scheduledabsence.2. Or the test may be taken the following morning at 6:30a.m.Failure to take the test on those opportunities will result in thestudent receiving 50% credit on the test.

Students who are absent for less than 3 daysand who miss a test are expected to make up the missedtest on the first morning the student returns to school. Ifthe student has more than one test to make up, Mrs.Doherty will arrange a schedule for the make-up tests.

If a student has an extended absence (3 or moredays) the student must see the teacher for instructionsand Mrs. Doherty will schedule the make-up tests withinthree days of the student’s return to classes.

Any student who does not make up a testaccording to the above guidelines will receive no morethan 50% credit on the test. In addition, a grade ofincomplete will be recorded on all progress reports andreport cards until the test is made up. A grade ofincomplete is considered academic probation and mustbe resolved before credit is issued for any class or beforea student can graduate from Teurlings.

It is important that students do not miss classunless the student is seriously ill. Please attempt toschedule appointments for after-school hours. The statemandates that students who miss more than 10 days ina semester or 20 days in a school year in any class willnot receive credit for that class.

should be completed in black ink and the paper musthave the correct heading, according to MLA style:

Prayer is a Celebration of ChristOur monthly prayer service held in the gym dove into the importance of prayer in our lives. The scriptures and meditations readbrought to mind the many ways we can take time to realize Jesus’ undying love for us. The “Confession Skit” was a profoundportrayal of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us by dying on the cross. Thank you Retreat Ministry! Once again, MusicMinistry did a great job of leading us in prayer!

“The Game of God” ~ Freshman RetreatOn Tuesday, September 19th, the Freshman Retreat was held in the Comeaux Recreation Center Gym. The theme was “The Gameof God” and focused on the many paths people take to build a relationship with God. Throughout the retreat the freshman class gota chance to get to know one another, engage in games and praise and worship, and meet with senior and junior group leaders todiscuss more in depth issues. Overall, the retreat was a fun-filled, spiritual, and relaxing day for the freshmen to reflect and listento God’s call. Special thanks to Lori Leday and Cassie Viator for planning the retreat, the Retreat Ministry Class and RetreatTeam for leading the days events, and Elyse Leblanc for sharing her heartfelt testimony.

STUDENTS AND TEACHERS MOVE INTO THE NEW CLASSROOMS

Teachers and students moved into the new classroom building on September 6th. The new classroom wing houses all of theEnglish, Social Studies, Spanish and Speech classes and the Speech and Debate Office. The renovation of the old Jr. Highbuilding should be completed by the end of September and will house all Theology and French classes.

Captial Campaign Update

CONSTRUCTION ON THE NEW ATHLETIC COMPLEXNEARS COMPLETION

The weight room is completed and being enjoyed by all RebelAthletes. The locker room, training room and shower facilitieswill be completed within the next month. We are still in need ofapproximately $100,000 and are humbled by the continuedgenerosity of Rebel Alumni, Parents, and Fans. Anyone wishing to donate to this project should contact AngelaDelhomme at 235-5711 extension 150 or by email atadelhomme@tchs.net.

TCH FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES “ADOPT-A-LOCKER”PROGRAM

The Rebel football program has announced the implementationof the “Adopt-A-Locker” Program. Former REBEL football playerswill have a chance to build upon the TCHS legacy. With a $100donation, a plaque with the name, position, jersey number, andseasons played will be mounted on a locker in the new AthleticComplex. Every current and future TCH player that wears a Rebeljersey will know the history and tradition of the number. REBELfans and alumni will also have the opportunity to participate inthe program with a plaque mounted on the respective locker. BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL PROGRAMS GET NEWLOCKER ROOMS AND COACHES OFFICES

Boys and Girls Basketball Locker Rooms and Coaches Officesare currently being constructed in the space of the old weightroom thanks to a generous donation. The expected completiondate for the project is October 1st. We would like to extend an invitation to all TCH Parents,Grandparents, and Alumni to come by and see ourprogress. We couldn’t have done it without your support!!!

· On October 18th, all Juniors willtake the Practice SAT test. The test servesas a practice for the SAT college entranceexam. Juniors who score high on the testcan be eligible for National MeritScholarship Awards and Competition.Students wanting to attend an out of statecollege should take the SAT exam and theACT exam.· Any Sophomore Honors studentcan sign up in the guidance office to takethe PSAT with the juniors. As a sophomore,the test will only serve as a practice. Space islimited. The cost for sophomores is $10.00.· All Freshman and Sophomores willtake the Practice ACT test on October 25th.The PACT is also called the PLAN testbecause it includes an interest inventory andcareer map to help students learn more abouttheir interest and careers. Coach MiltonRohm, Counselor will be visiting the 9th

and 10th grade classrooms to distribute studymaterials and to inform the students aboutthe test. Students who are not already inhonors can use this score to apply for honorsnext year. This is a great way to practice forthe ACT which is used along with thestudents grade point average to enter intocollege.· Coach Rohm will also work withthe 9th grade students on developing a 4year plan for completing graduation andTOPS core curriculum requirements. Lookfor this information during the first weekof October.· The next ACT test is October 28th.Students assigned to TCH should arrive oncampus around 7:40 am. Bring youradmission ticket, pencils and a calculator.
