The best way for you to
determine if you are a candidate
for LASIK is with a personal,
one-on-one consultation with
an experienced, licensed

Understanding LASIK
The ConsultationLASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ-Ker-
atomileusis) is an FDA-approved
outpatient procedure that uses
the excimer laser to reshape the
cornea to correct your vision.
LASIK typically takes about 10
minutes to perform on each eye
and is one of the most frequently
performed health care
procedures in North America.
We provide our patients with
peace of mind. The FREE LASIK
Consultation is one of the most
comprehensive in the industry.
At the consultation, your
NVISION doctor will confirm
whether you are a candidate,
explain the procedure and answer
all of your questions to enable you
to make an informed decision if
LASIK is right for you.
• Find out if you’re a candidate
for LASIK
• Examine your personalized
treatment plan
• Answer your remaining
questions
• Review your procedure cost

Common vision problems
Myopia Hyperopia
You can see objects near you more
clearly than distant objects.
You typically can see objects far away
more clearly than near objects. If you
have a high correction, it may also be
hard for you to see distant objects.
Light Light
Astigmatism Presbyopia
You have an oval shape to your
cornea which gives you a distortion,
or tilting, of images. Astigmatism may
blur vision for both near and distant
objects.
For nearly everyone, beginning in their
40s or 50s, the lens of the eye loses
some of its flexibility, making it neces-
sary to use bifocals or reading glasses.

Vision correction with options
At NVISION Laser Eye Centers, your NVISION
doctor will help you decide which procedure is
best for your eyes, your prescription and
your lifestyle.
The IntraLase method used at NVISION is a
100% blade-free approach to performing your
vision correction procedure. The IntraLase
method also delivers outstanding results: more
patients achieve vision that is 20/20 or better
when the IntraLase method is used.
Custom LASIKwith IntraLase
Your cornea is like your
fingerprint; no two are alike. With
Custom LASIK, a customized map
is created for each eye. This data
allows for treatment of tiny
imperfections in the eye that can
have a significant impact on your
quality of vision.
Conventional LASIKwith IntraLase
After the flap is made,
Conventional LASIK uses a cool
beam of light from the excimer laser
to gently reshape the front surface
(cornea) of the eye.
In Conventional LASIK, your
prescription is manually entered
into the laser. Conventional LASIK
is the original LASIK procedure, and
is still an excellent choice. However,
your surgeon may determine that
you could benefit more from the
higher level of customization that
Custom LASIK may provide.
Monovisionwith IntraLase
The need for reading glasses as
you get older is called presbyopia.
When you have LASIK, you and your
doctor may decide to leave one eye
slightly nearsighted; this is Mo-
novision. Generally, Monovision is
elected by people who have already
elected Monovision correction
with their contacts. Monovision is
helpful to reduce your dependence
on glasses for near tasks, such as
scanning a menu or article, but not
for reading fine print or reading
for a prolonged period. For active
individuals, such as those who play
golf or tennis, or who drive a great
deal at night, Monovision may not
be suitable.
PRK
Like LASIK, PRK utilizes the excimer
laser to reshape the curvature of
the eye to treat nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism.
PRK differs from LASIK, as it is
performed on the surface of the eye
and no flap is created during the
procedure. Many patients benefit
from Custom PRK, which provides
your surgeon an additional level of
data about your vision requirements
using customized wavefront
technology. PRK is suitable for
people with larger pupils, thin
corneas, and/or dry eyes, as well
as those who have other corneal

10 minutes that will change a lifetime
Below is a step-by-step list on how the LASIK
procedure is done at NVISION Laser Eye Centers
Immediately prior to your procedure, your eyelids and lashes will
be cleaned. A mild sedative may be given.
Anesthetic drops are applied to the eye, to completely numb the
eye for comfort.
The surgeon gently replaces the flap and aligns it to its original
position. It heals naturally and securely.
A protective flap is created and gently lifted by the surgeon.
Because the corneal flap preserves the surface layer of the
cornea, discomfort following LASIK procedures is minimized.
A surgical plan is programmed into the laser. The
computer calculates the required treatment and directs the laser.
Computer-controlled pulses of cool laser light are
applied to the inner layers of your cornea.

I havequestions,millions of them.
Am I a good candidate for LASIK?
Through an initial consultation with your
eye doctor or at the nearest NVISION
Center, your doctor will confirm if you
are a good candidate, explain the
procedure, and answer any questions. How soon can I driveafter the surgery?
After the one-day post-op
visit, if you feel safe and
comfortable.
What is Bladeless LASIK?
With Bladeless LASIK, the surgeon uses the laser to
create the corneal flap. This technology gives the
surgeon the ability to customize the corneal flap for
every individual patient. Recent studies done by IntraLase
show that this technology may now make it possible to
treat patients with LASIK who were previously dismissed
as candidates due to thin corneas.
When can I wear makeup?
Do not wear eye makeup
for one week. Other
makeup is okay but
should not be applied
in the area between
the eyebrow.
How soon after surgerycan I read a book?
Anytime; reading will
not harm your vision.
However, you should get
as much sleep as possible
on the day of surgery.
How long does the procedure take?
Allow up to two hours.
How soon can I go back to work?
Most LASIK patients can
return to work a day or
two after the procedure,
since most patients
notice dramatic visual
results within the first
few days following their
procedure. The speed
of recovery depends on
personal healing patterns,
since patients with higher
prescriptions may recover
more slowly.
How many locationsare there in California?
Eight throughout Southern
California.
How soon after surgery can I watch TV?
Anytime; TV will not harm
your vision. However, you
should get as much sleep
as possible on the day of
surgery.
How soon can I go swimming?
After 1 week.
(This includes
hot tubs and
pool water.)

How will I know what procedure I need to have?
Everyone’s eyes are
different. What works
for one person may
not be right for you.
Your NVISION doctor
will determine which
procedure is right for
your vision.
Can I take a shower?
You can shower at any
time. Patients should try
to avoid any touching
or rubbing of the eyes,
and be especially careful
when using soap products
near the eye area.
Is a blade still usedin LASIK?
At NVISION we do
Bladeless LASIK, which
eliminates the hand-held
microkeratome (blade),
giving you an “all laser”
procedure.
Does LASIK hurt?
Prior to your LASIK procedure,
anesthetic drops are used to numb
the eye. Although most patients say
there is no pain during the procedure,
some report feeling mild pressure or
vibration. Afterward, your eyes may
feel slight irritation for a few hours,
but most patients are back to normal
after taking a short nap.
How soon will I be able to exercise?

activity for
one week.
How soon can I work on the computer?
The next day.

your eyes lubricated while
you are in flight.

Patients should continue their normal medications.
All medications should be discussed prior to surgery.
What separates NVISION Laser Eye Centers from other centers?
We are trusted by more than 1,300
eye doctors for their patients and
their own LASIK procedures.
Affordable for every patient
For many, one of your first questions about LASIK is “How
much does it cost?” Depending on the provider, you will hear
a wide range of answers from $299 to $3,000 per eye.
At NVISION, we realize that it’s confusing to hear a variety of
answers for a medical procedure, so keep these points in
mind:
• Prices can vary based on your doctor, your prescription and
the technology, such as Custom or Bladeless LASIK, that
is used.
• Find out if the price quoted includes all of the pre- and
post-surgery follow-up exams and a Lifetime Commitment
program.
• The best way to determine your cost of LASIK is to
schedule a free LASIK consultation with an NVISION doctor.
At the consultation we will recommend the type of
procedure needed to correct your specific
vision. Your cost will be based on the procedure
best suited to your eyes.

You can save up to 30% by using tax-free dollars to pay for LASIK.* An FSA is a benefit
offered by employers that allows their employees to pay for eligible health care expenses,
such as LASIK, with pre-tax dollars. By using your FSA to pay for LASIK, you can reduce
your taxes and save.
Some health insurance plans and employers have arrangements with NVISION that could
substantially reduce the cost of LASIK. Ask your NVISION Center if your plan or employer
participates.

good option, especially if you have a card that carries a low interest rate or offers points
or other rewards.
While LASIK can be deemed elective and not covered by insurance, it may be tax
deductible, depending on your filing status. Please consult your accountant.
Many patients choose to use their tax refund to pay for LASIK.
