SENIOR GIRLS ENTER­TAINED WITH DANCE

Last Saturday evening one of the most . enjoyable affairs of the season was pulled off in the Gymnasium on the first floor of the Libil'·ary Building. The Junior girls entertaine.J the Senior girls with a masquer . ade ball. The affair was well attended, and every costume, imaginable was in evidence.

Little Bo-peeps smiled de­mtt'l"fily upon farmer lads; a fairy tripped on "light fantastic toe," guided by the stauncl1 a.rm of Uncle Sam, while Col­umbia tredded tile maze with a Yamayama boy; Dolly-dim­ples cavorted gaily with min­strel men; Rosalind serene1~~

The p'!.·ogram provided for 16 regulars and 4 extras. The grand march was led by Lucib Kerr and Florence Boteman . Mrs. Scott, Miss Hines and Miss B€'rry acted as chaperones.

'~BIRTH Of A NATION" THE SPANISH CLUB MEETS HARRIS BLAIR ELECT 3RD A Large Number of Students

See the Drama at the New Theatre.

"The Birth. of a Nation," the most stupendous and fascinat­ir:g motion picture drama creat­ed in the United States, found­ed on T 110mas Dixon's story "The Clansman," was shown at the New Theat··~·e Wednesday and Thursday of Ia.st week.

Realizing the educational acd historical value of this picture, President Evans gave the students permission to ·witne.8s the p·•.--odu.ction on . Thursday e\~ening. The r..:a . .iority of students took advan­tage of the opportunity.

In seeing this picture we were made to realize what the cori.flict of '65 and its results meant to the wives and dau . ghters of the South. We wit­nessed the incirclement of the Southern army and the sur­render of Robert E. Lee to U. S. Grant in the historic hous2 at Appromattox ·courthouse~

the assas~ination of Presiden~ Lincoln, Sherman's . march to the sea, and many other scenes which were of interest to every­op.e.

In the hair raising rides of the Ku Kllx Klan the excite· ment get8 to a tension; the house was filled with yells for the brave men, and we foi·vot it was a mere picture. The three thousand riders in their g-ruesome costumes we'!. .. e so real our enthusiasm got to a fever heat and we could hardly wait for them to do their part.

In the short space of three

hours we had the pleasure ·or viewing the exact happenings

of a period of fifteen years. ~~~~o-~-~

It is rumo·red by some of th1~ Murchison House girls that Mr. Watkins is a handy man on wash day.

Installed·.

The members of La Sala,·· manca had an enjoyable and interesting time at the meeting Monday night, February 5.

Inclement weather has madv: it difficult for the Spanish students to get together this year, but when opportunitj' did affor;_"d itself they made the most of it.

. The following p•rogram wats rendered: "An Appreciation of Spanish Literature," a talk b.1 MT. Marsh. Amantes en Es­pafias," by Thompson Stricklin and Vera Gipson. Violin solo by Elliott Wilson. After this chili and crackers we:re served then the members entered into n very enjoyable social hour, and played several interseting games. At this rc.eeting a new set of officers were elected and the follovving we·1-e installed:

Miss Penny F 1!."ank., who had been elected Senior Editor for the Pedagog at a previous meet ing, made a very int.eresting talk urging all the members to buy a Pedagog and to c<n1-tribute something to the annual besides their picture.

Let every Senior get busy and contribute something-a .poem, a sto•I"y, or a joke, and make this the best Pedagog ever put out by the school.

On F·I"iday morning at the Chapel hour the Evangelists Hendrick, Carte!r and Have11 delighted us, with some selec · tions of music and a short lecture.

These men. are all atists in their line of work. Rev. Hen­drick is an able - speaker, his method of presenting his sub­ject by illustrations is unique and instructive.
