VAN RETURNS HOME FOR AUSTRALIA DAY

AND 150 YEARS OF WALLA WALLA.

It all happened in October 2018 when I was asked by Kym Lieschke if I would bring the NRMA van back to

Walla Walla for the Celebration and Parade of 150 years of the settlement of Walla Walla.

Walla Walla is situated about 38 klms North West of Albury with a population of about 700 residents.

I took the van down in November and left it in the Holden Show Room until Australia Day when I drove it in

the Parade. About 1500 people lined the street to see all the horses, cars, machinery and people dressed

up from past years. Jeanette and I left Floraville on Wednesday before the long weekend and travelled

down in the Motor Home and trailer to Walla Walla.

Lieschke’s loaned us a car to travel around and learn all about their town. We had a great weekend with

lots of things to do and the hospitality was fantastic.

We left Monday afternoon to head home staying overnight at Gundagai and arrived safely home Tuesday

afternoon. A good weekend was had by all. Roving Reporter and Photographer: Phil Illfield.

VICE PRESIDENTS RUN TO LIDDEL RECREATION PARK IN MEMORY OF ROSS SKILLEN (ROSCO).

Roving Reporter: Terry Jones. Roving Photographer: Lynn Farmer

The sun gods were all smiling down on the N.R.VC. when about 30 Club Cars lined up at Edgeworth Maccas with some 60 plus members travelling about 250klms in total for the memory of Rosco and the V.Ps run. First half run sheets were given out, and after a brief talk we all set off. First stop was nearly 80klms away at Eldersile Hall. The journey there was very scenic, the country side was beautiful and green. A few of our members got a bit mixed up with the directions and were going in all sorts of ways before getting back on track, an arriving at the hall in plenty of time for cakes, coffee, and chats. By arrangements the Elderisle Hall was open for u t use by the lovely Treasurer Wendy who was there to meet and greet us all. We presented Wendy with a valuable Certificate of Appreciation for her hospitality.

The second half instructions were given out and we were again off and driving, anther lovely and interesting run passing farms, animals and travelling through the back streets of Singleton, going across Glennis Creek, Camberwell, Ravensworth, and arriving at our lunch stop just after midday. Unfortunately Glenn and Natalie Towndrow had some car trouble, but fortunately some of our members were there to help. Linda and Ken Barrett, and Neville and Debbie Maxwell, getting the fuel problem sorted, and they continued on their way arriving in plenty of time for delicious hot dogs and good company.

The Vice Presidents Run Certificates with Rosco’s name also on them were awarded to Gerald and Doreen Hide, Norm and Julie Wilson and Leanne and George. A lovely framed Vintage Car picture was awarded to Bill and Collene Kalb. Quida’s guessing competition was won by Barbara Doran, and finally the Vice Presidents Trophy was awarded to Lindsay and Barbara Doran. All up it was a terrific day that Ross would have loved and I think everyone enjoyed. We worked hard on this run and I would like to thank my lovely wife Mary for all her help and patience to make it a success. Thanks everyone for your support and attendance. V.P. Terry. P.S. The drive home via the New England Highway was a trial for Lindsay, Barbara and his FC. Holden as he also had fuel problems, but managed to limp home followed by Don and Sandra Rumbel and again the Barretts stopped to help. Two Holdens had trouble whilst the Fords were trouble free. Who’s laughing now Frank?)………………. Cheers.

DEAR DIARY - DAY 1 All packed for the cruise ship - all my nicest dresses, swimsuits, short sets. Really, really exciting. Our local Ladies Bowls Club, 'The Late Bloomers' decided on this "all-girls" trip. It will be my first one - and I can't wait!

DEAR DIARY - DAY 2 Entire day at sea, so beautiful. Saw whales and dolphins. Met the Captain today, seems like a very nice man.

DEAR DIARY - DAY 3 At the pool today. Did some shuffleboard, hit golf balls off the deck. The Captain invited me to join him at his table for dinner. Felt honored and had a wonderful time. He is very attractive and attentive.

DEAR DIARY - DAY 4 Won $500 in the ship's Casino. The Captain asked me to have dinner with him in his

own cabin. Had a scrumptious meal complete with caviar and champagne. He asked me to stay the night,

but I declined. Told him I could not be unfaithful to my husband.

DEAR DIARY - DAY 5 Pool again today. Got really sunburned, and I went inside for a drink at the piano-bar and to cool down; stayed there for rest of day. The Captain saw me, bought

me several large drinks. He really is quite charming. Again asked me to visit his cabin for the night. Again, I declined. He told me, if I did not let him have his way with me, he would sink the ship… I was shocked.

DEAR DIARY - DAY 6

Today I saved 2600 lives.

Well what a day, top weather in the morning, clouds came over about 12, next it was raining, but I get ahead

of myself, a big THANK YOU, to Pez & Bill for going up early (6.30am) to rope off our normal area, which

you have to do up there, due to massive numbers of cars, and they only just got it done in time, with cars

wanting to get prime spots. A small group of members met at Edgeworth Maccas, left at 7.00am, to go to

Heddon Greta where they picked up 2 more, other members made their own way arriving at leisure. Bill

with the help of members set up the gazebos including the NRVC one that our Captain Ken had dropped off

to Bill along with the NRVC BOARD & banners etc. during the week, as he could not attend. We had 39

members and 24 cars. Wow, another great roll up.

Of course once members were set up, the usual Cakes and yummies, were shared along with Coffees, many

members took advantage also of the Food vans, Ruth was seen eating a hu-mung-gus Hot dog, that was

hanging out of the bun, I know I should have got a photo, sigh, others had big Bacon & egg rolls, steak

sandwiches, etc. The stage was set, lots of dancing and great music, with Doug from Street Rodder’s joining

in for a couple of songs, boy can Doug sing, wonderful.

SECRETARY DEBBIE MAXWELL RUN on SUNDAY 24TH MARCH, 2019

Roving Reporter: Debbie. Roving Photographer: Lynn Farmer.

We all met at Edgeworth Maccas for a 9.00am departure. 22 cars and a motor bike left for our morning tea destination being the Poppet Head Park Reserve at Kitchener. This cruise took us via the base of the Watagans before arriving at the park. It was good to see several new members and cars participating in the cruse. Lindsay and Barbara Doran in their FC Holden met us there as they are now Cessnock hoons. It was noted several older members dictated the kid’s playground activities with photo evidence taken. After morning tea it was a leisurely cruise via Abernethy, Kearsley, Mulbring and culminating at Blue Gum Hills Regional Park, Minmi. A cryptic observation question was asked by Neville with the winners being Leanne and George in their high powered Morris Minor. On a special note was the dedication of Pez Perry

and Tom Shannon arriving at Maccas the day before to do the run. A great day was had by all.

MID-WEEK RUN TO NORAH HEAD.- Wednesday 17th April, 2019 Roving Reporter and Photographer: Gary and Ruth Newcombe.

What a glorious autumn day for the start of our car run today. There were 12 of us that left Edgeworth Maccas for our drive to morning tea at Myuna Bay Park. As usual cakes and biscuits were handed out to have with our coffee. Our final destination was to Norah Head Lighthouse where we walked around and took some lovely photos. The water looked beautiful. We then drove the short distance to the park. Ray Ives and his grandson Harry walked to the cafe and came back with hamburgers and chips which did look better than our sandwiches. Lots more talking and then Adriane decided to get his service book out for his Mazda that he recently discovered in his glovebox. Then the laughs began looking over the prices of the services 20 years ago. The cheapest charge was for $2.50 for washing the front window on a service. It was good to see Doreen and John Bailey join us also. John usually does tenpin bowling but due to school holidays it was cancelled. Doreen grew up in Norah Head so I am sure the day brought back some lovely memories of her childhood. Thanks to all who came along for the day. Gary and I will be away for May so we are looking for someone to volunteer to do the run. Our run in June will be to Millbrook Winery Millfield where they also have port and liquours, as well as wine to taste. There is $5.00 charge for tasting but will be deducted off any bottles that you buy.
