Term 3 Dates:
12 July to 17 September
From the Principal…. Welcome to Term 3! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break. As always at the start of the term, most of the children
are very enthusiastic and glad to be back at school with their friends. It’s amazing what a break can do, the children do become
very tired by the end of the term.
It has been nice to be able to return to school with limited restrictions still in place. We can virtually return to the same
arrangements that we had at the beginning of Term 2. Parents and carers are welcome to come into the school grounds however
they must sign in using the government QR code. We have the code on all external gates and entrances to the buildings. We will
maintain our morning procedures and ask that the children walk into their classroom between 8.45 am and 9.00 am each morning.
SEMESTER 1 REPORTS
The Semester 1 Reports and Assessment Portfolios will be sent home with the students today. When you are reading your child’s
report please keep in mind:
➢ The Term 2 tasks are a snapshot of the assessment tasks that teachers use to determine the students Victorian Curriculum
level other assessment undertaken throughout the semester is also used to determine the child’s overall level.
➢ The reports are for both parents and children. Take the time to sit with your child and read through the Assessment
Portfolio and report.
➢ Ask your child to explain the expectations and outcomes of the various tasks.
➢ Celebrate with your child their achievements and discuss the areas for future learning.
Parents who have children in Grades 1-6 will notice that there are two dots in each subject line. The hollow dots represent the
child’s level of achievement 6 months ago and the solid dot shows their current level of achievement. If a child only has a solid dots
that indicates they have not made any progress over the past 6 months.
Could all families please ensure they return the portfolios on Friday July 23rd. The portfolios will be used as a point of
reference during the conferences.
3 WAY CONFERENCES
Parents can now book an appointment for this semester’s 3 Way Conferences, which are on Thursday July 22nd. The
conferences will be held on WebEx so families will be able to log in from the comfort of their own home or workplace.
The conferences will provide parents with the opportunity to discuss their child’s report and assessment tasks with their classroom
teacher. The children will bring home some of their books with them next Wednesday so that they can share their work with their
parents during the conference. Please make sure that your child returns their books to school on Friday July 23rd. The conferences
are an integral part of the reporting process so it is imperative that all families attend.
If you have not booked your appointment yet please log on to COMPASS and do so. The booking portal will be closed at
12pm on Thursday July 22nd so parents will not be able to change their appointment time after that time. Your child’s teacher
will email the WebEx log on details next Tuesday, July 20th.

STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL ON 3 WAY CONFERENCE DAY
We are requesting that parents keep their children at home on Thursday July 22nd so that teachers can conduct the 3 Way
Conferences. We realise that there are some parents who are unable to do so, so we will be running an alternate program for
those children on the day. Our specialist staff will be supervising the students so we only have a limited number of staff who will be
available on the day. If you can keep your child at home please do so.
If your child will be attending could you please let their teacher know so that we can plan for the number of students who
will be attending.

Grade 1 Report ....
To celebrate the first semester, the Grade One classes went to Wood Street Park for a fun afternoon.
This was the children’s first official excursion after many unfortunate cancelled events. The children were super excited to be
leaving the school gates on a new adventure.
We were lucky to have a sunny winter’s day, filled with big smiles and many eager faces to head to the playground. On our return
journey, some walking feet were more tired than others, but overall, a successful trip.
In a few weeks, the children will be off once again, our next destination is the Royal Melbourne Zoo.
Grade 2 Report ....
Maths In Maths, we worked with a partner to create our own board games. The objective of our game was to solve addition,
subtraction or multiplication number sentences. We had to come up with a creative name for our game as well as some twists
and turns to make our game challenging such as adding snakes and ladders, challenge cards. In some of the spaces we could also
add the words go back or jump forward a space.
Our board game had to include a list of materials needed as well as directions on how to play. Once we had completed our board
game we were able to play it in pairs. We then rotated and were able to have a go at playing other’s board games.

Grade 4 Report ....
During Term 2, the Grade 4 students completed a literature study of the ‘The One and Only Ivan’. The students learnt about Ivan
and his past life experiences, making new best friends with Ruby the Elephant and hatching the plan to escape captivity.
Some of the amazing lessons included unpacking some of the great vocabulary the author used to help portray the characters and
using visualisations to sketch Ivan’s domain and topping the whole experience off by watching the movie on the last day of the
Term 2!
Term 3 presents some great learning experiences for the Grade 4 cohort. We are off to the Melbourne Museum/ Imax on the
12th of August (info will be on Compass soon) to link in with our Writing units this term and fingers crossed we can finally go on our
Grade 4 Overnight City Camp at the end of Term 3.
'My favourite part of The One and Only Ivan is when they freed him at the end. I didn't know how it was going to
end, it was a good ending.' Beatrice
'I preferred the book to the movie because the book had more adjectives and it helped me visualise the events.'
Mae
'I really liked when they set Ivan free because he didn't want to stay in a cage for the rest of his life, he wanted
freedom.' GianLuca
News from the Italian Rooms ....
Forza Italia! Many would have heard or seen the recent win by Gli Azzurri against England. The Italians celebrated this magnificent
win with many people attending Lygon St in the very early morning. Italy’s only title win was back in 1968 when the Azzurri won
against Yugoslavia.
This term fingers crossed we will be celebrating Italian Day as our Whole School Event on Wednesday 25th August. We are lucky
once again to have James Liotta performer, comedian and producer returning to entertain us. He and Mario will be performing
Ristorante Mangiabanane. Children are encouraged to come dressed up in the Italian colours, characters or personalities. Put
your thinking caps on to come up with some creative and interesting ideas you can use to dress in. In the years past, we have
seen chefs, pizza makers, artists, nonni, Mona Lisa, soccer players, Mario and Luigi, Pinocchio, even spaghetti Bolognese has made
an appearance!
At the end of last term, the children were having fun reinforcing language with the apps Duolingo and Languages Online as well as
experiencing Italian cultural activities such as the Italian card game, Scopa.
Looking forward to the upcoming Italian Day!
A Presto!
Signora Perrone and Signora Langley

Head Lice ….
A reminder to parents to regularly check your child’s hair for head lice.
Headlice are extremely contagious.
We suggest that you look for the following symptoms or signs that would indicate the
presence of headlice:
• Generally: child scratching his/her head excessively,
• On pillows: fine black powder or pale coloured material,
• In the hair: signs of lice eggs (“nits”) – cream or coffee coloured specks close to
hair roots,
• Lice: small white or ‘greyish’ parasites the approximate size of a pinhead.
If you notice any of the above signs, treatment should be commenced immediately as your
child could be excluded from school if not treated.
