The La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors would like to express its profound appreciation to all of our 2013 benefactors. Your gifts are at the heart of our hospital’s ongoing efforts to bring the very best in patient care to La Grange and surrounding communities.

We celebrated several memorable accomplishments during the past year, including two tremendous fundraising events and the successful conclusion of our $15 million Patient Care Center campaign. Funding the remainder of our matching challenge grant with Community Memorial Foundation represented a landmark achievement for the Foundation and its donor community. Inspired by the success of the campaign, the Foundation looks forward to new opportunities to advance local healthcare quality through philanthropic partnership.

Mike and Bonnie Marcucci are longtime supporters of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. They see the presence of a quality local hospital as a community cornerstone. They value the many services the hospital offers to area residents and recognize the unique bond that many local families have developed with the hospital.

Mike and Bonnie are very involved in the Foundation’s ongoing operations, giving generously of their time and resources as well as inviting the participation of other area philanthropists. Mike currently serves on the Foundation Board and is a Past Board Chair and Past Finance Committee Chair. Both have been heavily committed to the success of Foundation events. Mike has served on numerous Golf Classic Committees and Chaired the 2004 and 2008 outings. Mike has also served as a member of the Hospital’s Operating Board. Bonnie has served on the Foundation’s Gala Committee and has participated in multiple Foundation events.

Mike and Bonnie take comfort knowing the hospital is there for them and members of their family. Their daughters, Jill and Jody, were both raised in La Grange, attended Lyons Township High School, and currently reside within a couple miles of Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. Jill and her husband Todd share their Western Springs home with children Ella and Ryan, who were both born at ALMH. Jody and her husband Tim moved to La Grange last summer, along with their daughter Quinlan.

First National Bank of La Grange has its roots deeply planted within the La Grange community. For over 90 years, First National Bank of La Grange has helped families and local businesses achieve their financial goals and dreams. Like Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, the Bank’s history is built upon a foundation that values service, integrity and supporting the immediate community.

The Bank’s ownership and management dates back to the 1960’s when a group of local business people, led by John R. Madden, purchased the bank. The next generations of the Madden family, along with a strong management team consisting of local residents, continue Mr. Madden’s vision of providing personalized banking and trust services, with a commitment to community reinvestment. Unlike many competitors, the bank’s deposits are reinvested primarily as loans within the immediate community, and members of the bank’s management team and board members serve on the boards of several local non-profit organizations.

Much like Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, First National Bank of La Grange recognizes that a vibrant community relies on a strong network of social service organizations dedicated to the well-being of the community. Tom and Marilyn Cahill have been residents of the Western Springs community for 40 years, where they raised their two children Meghan and Michael. Dr. Cahill, a clinical psychologist, began teaching behavioral and mental health at the La Grange Memorial Hospital Family Practice Residency in 1980 and proudly continues his involvement with this important program to this day. He has maintained an independent practice since 1978, where he treats children and adults for common emotional, behavioral and developmental problems in the context of family.

Marilyn, the 2000 Western Springs Citizen of the Year honoree, is a retired co-business owner and accomplished community volunteer. She is a past Board member of the La Grange Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and has also served as a Minister of Care for the hospital. Both she and Tom are generous investors in the Foundation’s mission, and have participated in many Foundation events – including serving as Co-Chairs for a very successful and memorable Foundation gala in 2005.

The Foundation thanks Tom and Marilyn Cahill for their many philanthropic investments supporting quality patient care. Their numerous hours of service at ALMH have touched the lives of many patients and family members within the hospital’s service community.

The physicians of La Grange Oncology Associates provide personal care to patients battling cancer. They focus on the person as well their illness. They understand the overwhelming stress that accompanies a cancer diagnosis, and the importance of addressing each patient’s fears and anxieties. They collaborate extensively with primary care physicians, surgeons, radiation oncologists and other subspecialists to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for their patients.

The group’s commitment to collaboration can also be seen in their many contributions to the hospital’s Foundation. Dr. James Hannigan, a local Hinsdale resident, has served on the Foundation Board, the Midwest Health Board of Directors, and is the immediate past President of the Medical Staff. Dr. Hannigan also served on the Campaign Cabinet for the Foundation’s recently completed Patient Care Center campaign, which raised in excess of $15 million for the hospital’s new patient bed tower. A plaque recognizing La Grange Oncology Associates’ major gift to the campaign can be found outside of the hospital’s lobby coffee shop. Generous gifts from the practice, as well as contributions from individual practice members, helped fuel the success of many Foundation events and fundraising initiatives.

The Foundation is grateful for its past partnership with La Grange Oncology Associates, and looks forward to playing a meaningful role in enhancing area cancer care services by raising funds for the new Adventist Cancer Institute (ACI). A joint cancer care facility of both Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, construction of the ACI is scheduled to begin this year.

More than 340 physicians and community members gathered to dine, dance and celebrate at the Foundation’s Light Up the Night Gala on Nov. 16 at the Chicago Marriott in Burr Ridge. The successful event was a collaboration of the physicians and community members coming together under the leadership of Ebrahim and Dr. Fatima Jaffer and Mark and Jeanne Reilly.

The black-tie optional affair went back to the basics, opting out of raffles and auctions, and focusing instead on the many accomplishments of the hospital staff and physicians. The evening included dinner, a fabulous dessert buffet and music and dancing from the band Spoken Four.

The event raised nearly $300,000 to support the Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital Patient Care Center. The record-setting proceeds marked the completion of a $5 million matching grant from Community Memorial Foundation and was celebrated with a toast to honor the many donors, volunteers and physicians who helped make this historic $15 million gift a reality.

The 2013 Golf Classic established a new record high by raising over $245,000 to benefit the Patient Care Center. Dr. Luke Sewall and Jeff Kraus led a highly engaged committee of over 50 community benefactors that helped secure sponsorships and register a field of over 200 golfers. This year’s event included electronic bidding on a silent auction and novel sponsorship opportunities for new hospital sponsors.

The key to success for the Golf Classic remains the outstanding support from key sponsors, staff and doctors who continue to help the hospital make a difference in the lives of its patients and their families.

The La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation received voluntary support totaling more than $1,550,000 in 2013. More than 1,500 donations were received last year to advance the hospital’s healing mission. The great majority of contributions received were directed to the Patient Care Center Fund in order to successfully complete our $5 million matching challenge grant. Accomplishing this goal was a monumental achievement, and a testament to the outstanding bond that exists between the hospital and its surrounding community. The Patient Care Center continues to serve as the cornerstone of a positive and effective patient experience, providing a quieter, safer, more efficient healing environment with increased patient privacy. The Foundation salutes each donor that supported this ambitious project, and looks forward to future partnership opportunities to enhance the hospital’s services.

In 2013, Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital employees, set a new record by donating more than $53,560 to the Employee Giving Campaign, Partners in Healing. These inspiring acts of generosity, which come during difficult economic times, reaffirm that our employees are exceptional individuals who care about their hospital and co-workers. These acts define what make La Grange so special.

These 261 employees financially commit their support for patient care initiatives as well as new projects and staff education programs. Employees may designate their gifts to specific departments or leave their gifts unrestricted to be used where the need is greatest. They can also contribute to funds such as Care ‘N Share which provides financial support to employees who experience a personal emergency. These inspiring gifts further demonstrate the unique culture at ALMH to aspire to be true Partners in Healing.

The President’s Circle of Leadership has been a long standing tradition at La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation. The Annual President’s Circle dinner offers special recognition to lead benefactors who contribute over $1,000 or more annually or $25,000 cumulatively. These loyal friends and local businesses have helped transform the dream of a community hospital into a world-class healthcare facility. The 2013 President’s Circle Dinner was held on May 1st at the La Grange Country Club and celebrated 200 of the Foundation’s lead benefactors. Dr. James Hannigan gave a lively presentation on cancer care and how the new Adventist Cancer Treatment Pavilion will continue to keep ALMH at the forefront of the most innovative treatment.
