On behalf of all the growling, hungry kids’ in Småland, the Ministers held a meeting with the F&B Manager of the IKEA Restaurant to discuss how the Kids’ menu can be improved. They were very firm about what the citizens liked and disliked and gave a lot of creative suggestions. Some yummy items they suggested to include in the Kids’ menu were pizzas, mashed potatoes and hotdog pasta. To thank the Ministers for their contribution, a yummy spread was laid out at the end. Everyone left the meeting feeling very full. BURP!
Good job Ministers! You’ve made all the growling stomachs a lot happier.
greetings from Alex and Tampi...

The Christmas Bazaar is back and this year, it’s going to be Bigger and Better! For the very first time, we will be having the Christmas Bazaar over 2 weekends and in both stores!
To get you in the holiday mood, here are three Christmas-y activities you can sign-up for. Each activity costs $2 Smålish dållars and you’ll only need to pay on the day of the activity itself.
Remark: Please print out your dållars and register at the Bug House. Registration starts at 1.30pm and is based on a first-come-first-served basis.
If you are an aspiring entrepreneur or can bake a mean cookie or have some really cool stuff to sell, come join us and be part of the Småland Christmas Bazaar. Get to be the boss for one day and hire some friends, siblings or adult helpers as your assistants. It is also a good opportunity to earn some extra Smålish dållars and pocket money!
Bidding starts at $10 Smålish dållars. Highest bidder wins. We have 12 stalls at IKEA Tampines and 6 stalls at IKEA Alexandra up for rental each day.
Hurry and pick up your application form the Bug House and start bidding today! You can also email your bid to [email protected]. Please include your name, passport number, contact number, amount to bid, desired date and items you will be selling.
Submission closes on 5 December 2010 (Monday) and successful bidders will be contacted on 7 December 2010 (Wednesday).

The Arabian Nights is the full-scale family musical of the year!
“This puppet is going to be something special…the best I’ve ever created”, thought Gepetto. And thus begins the magical journey of Pinocchio as he is brought to life with the help of the Blue Fairy.
Join Pinocchio in his adventures through a lively marionette theatre, an enchanting Funland and even the belly of a whale, as he learns what it means to be human. Along the way, he meets a whole range
of colourful characters – the wise old cricket, Fox and Cat – the conniving pair of villains, naughty schoolboys, and of course the beautiful Blue Fairy.
This heart-warming musical highlights the importance of telling the truth, being brave and unconditional love. It is a must-see for young and old.
Poor Cindy lives in a crowded HDB flat with her Evil Casino-Obsessed Step-Mother and two Ugly Step-Sisters, Precious and Treasure. All she dreams about is going to The Grand Fish Ball where Prince Char Mee will choose a bride. Fairy God Makcik appears, and Cindy is transformed from “no taste” to “fashion ace” and off to The Ball she goes! But will the Prince recognise her? Will the shoe fit? And will true love find a way?

st lucia daySt Lucia Day is celebrated on 13 December in memory of a kind girl called Lucia who brought food to persecuted Christians in Rome. She wore candles on her head so she had both her hands free to carry things.
Today, St Lucia is represented by a girl wearing a white dress with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head. She leads a procession called “Lussetåg” and goes around singing Lucia songs. At home, often the eldest daughter plays St Lucia for her family and brings them Lussekatts (saffron buns) and hot coffee.
Abigail Collins, aged five and a half, was concerned to read about the plight of the endangered tiger. Not content to let matters lie, she decided to do something about it.
Abigail made a poster and collected names for a petition from family, friends and neighbours. She also wanted to give the tigers a safe home and decided to raise money to contribute towards preserving a safe habitat for them. She baked 52 tiger cakes and raised $74 by selling them to residents at her condo. Together with donations from friends, family and her own piggy bank, Abigail was able to donate a total of $128 to WWF.
If you would like to find out more about saving tigers, please visit www.wwf.sg
More than 200 school children from several schools in Yerevan, Armenia as well as several dozens of adults celebrated a ‘Leopard Day’ in the Yerevan Zoo.
There was an amazing performance ‘Leopard - King of Animals’ role-played by the children themselves, different contest games, a concert and an award-giving ceremony for children.
Pupils from seven schools participated in a handicraft contest-exhibition. Through hand-made artifacts such as carpets, drawings, placards, puppets as well as poems, children tried to convey their message to adults that the ‘leopard is in danger and poaching should be stopped'.
During the event, WWF volunteers also helped to raise funds through sale of merchandise and donations from the visitors.
When 15-year-old New Zealander Aescleah Hawkins discovered that the native Hector’s dolphins were at risk of extinction, she immediately wanted to help. She contacted WWF with the idea of doing a walk through the dolphins’ habitat to raise money for her cause.
To raise funds for WWF’s campaign, she and a team of 12 decided to walk 42 km over 3 days. 265 school students and well-wishers went to cheer for them, including a supporter wearing a dolphin costume! The children presented the walkers with nearly $300 raised through a mufti day, read out dolphin poems and waved them off on their journey with dolphin cut-outs.
“I hope that from this more people see that we can make a difference, and we have to do something now, because Hector’s dolphins really need our help to survive.” says Aescleah.
Altogether, S$15,212 was raised towards the cause.
Christmas is the season of cheer and gift-giving but it can also be the most wasteful.
Every year, millions of unwanted gifts, wrapping papers and Christmas trees are thrown away around the world. How can all these wastage be reduced?
You can choose thoughtful gifts that do not come with a lot of packaging or a better idea, make your own using scrap materials! Make your own gift wrapper by using recycled paper and personalise it by drawing on them. If you must, present the gifts in reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags. This will go a long way to keep our planet healthy!
Did you enjoy learning about these toys from the past? Why not enjoy a family day out with your parents and siblings to the Mint Museum of Toys as you discover more! You will get to see toys that you can never find in toys stores today. The museum exhibits a collection of vintage toys and childhood games from more than 40 countries and is spread out over four levels for you to enjoy!
Have you ever wondered how teddy bears got its name? Our cuddly friend was named after America's President, Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt whom went on a bear-hunting trip one day but failed to catch any bears. A bear cub was captured for him to shoot but he refused to do so. This was depicted in a cartoon strip published in The Washington Post the next day. A toy maker saw this cartoon and wrote to the President for permission to name his toy bears after him. "Teddy's Bear" was soon put up on sale at the toy maker's shop.
The toys that you have today are so different from those made a long time ago. Materials were limited then and people had to make their toys by hand. Featured in the hopscotch below are some of the traditional toys that your Mum and Dad might have played with during their childhood. Get them to share with you if they still remember playing them!
We all know Popeye the sailorman but did you know that he was created to influence kids to eat their vegetables? Elzie Segar, whose daughter loved eating spinach, drew Popeye in 1929 as a spinach-loving Sailor, which incidentally encouraged kids to eat their greens so that they could become strong just like Popeye. It was a great success!
The Door of Hope dolls tells a story of the sad plight of Chinese girls in the past. In a society where boys were favoured, many girls were sold off to slavery or prostitution. The Door of Hope Mission was founded to help the girls who managed to escape. They were taught to read, write, and sew. These dolls you see here are wearing clothes hand-sewn by the girls. As the dolls are all hand-made and hand-carved, no two pieces are alike.
Did you know that before Mickey got his name, Walt Disney wanted to name him "Mortimer Mouse"? It was Walt Disney's wife who suggested the name change during a train ride with her husband. Though Mickey is famed as the main Disney star, many do not know that the first cartoon character created by Walt Disney is actually Oswald, the lucky rabbit.
Not sure what to ask for your Christmas present, or what to give your family and friends?

If you would like to give a Monthly or a One-Time Gift, that is possible too. Make someone special smile with this unique and meaningful gift. Not only will they receive a personalised certificate to show that they care for endangered animals and plants, they will also receive all 4 issues of WWF’s Panda Club e-newsletter! it’s christmas!Christmas Eve or “Julafton” is the most celebrated day amongst the year end celebrations. This is the day where the holidays officially start, people dig into traditional Christmas food and most importantly, when children receive many presents!
Families start the day by bringing home a live Christmas tree and decorating it with candles, straw ornaments, bright lights, apples, sweets, glass bulbs, paper flags and a huge gold star.
In Sweden, the Christmas celebrations are HUGE and they last almost two months.

Mr Bottle’s magic squaresEven though you are sitting comfortably at home, Mr Bottle is going to show you that he can magically read your mind with his 9 magic squares!
How to play
The squares on the right contain Mr Bottle and friends and some furniture.
1) Touch any square on the right.
2) Spell out the word you chose, by moving up, down, left or right for each step as you spell each letter (do not move diagonally). In other words, if you chose Merry Mary, you move 9 steps up, down, left, or right.
3) Move your finger to the up, down, left or right to the nearest square with a furniture.
Mr Bottle knows that you are pointing to the chair! Amazing isn’t it! You can perform this for your friends too! Just show your friends the squares, and read out the instructions above, without seeing the moves they have made! When they are finished, tell them that they chose the chair!

Come dinnertime, a sumptuous meal is served on a “Julbord” or Christmas table. Julskinka (Christmas ham) is the star dish and is served alongside delicious pork sausages, meatballs, pickled herring, salmon, Jansson’s Temptation (a traditional potato casserole) and much more!
After the feast, it’s time to greet Yule Tomten! Tomten (Swedish Santa Claus) is in fact a small Christmas gnome who has a long white beard and wears red robes. He rides a Julbock (straw goat) and carries a
sack of wonderful gifts for kids.
Christmas Day in Sweden is a quiet day. Some people attend church service while others spend the day with family and close friends. Of course, they also go around wishing each other “God Jul!”
