"REPORTING RESPONSIBLY ONMIGRATION" JOURNALISM TRAININGWORKSHOPJournalists have an important role in society,

that of communicating news to the public in a

fair, responsible and unbiased way.

The recent Journalism Training Workshop

convened by The Migration Project was aimed

specifically at community media journalists in

the Greater eThekwini area, to educate them

about migration and xenophobia, and

especially about unconscious biases towards

migrants, that exist in journalism.

The training was held virtually on the 15th of

July due to Covid-19 regulations at the time.

The turnout was, nonetheless, successful.

CSO TRAINING WORKSHOPS

The CSO Training Workshops comprised of

delegates from civil society organizations

from the greater eThekwini area, and more

especially our implementation sites which

include KwaMashu, Isipingo, Umlazi,

KwaMakhutha and Sydenham.

The purpose of these two-day CSO

Training Workshops was to capacitate civil

society organizations working on issues of

migration and xenophobia, so they are

better equipped to execute their projects

and assist The Migration Project, at a

community level, in our implementation

sites, which they already work in. The two

events were attended by representatives

from the eThekwini Municipality, Black

Sash, Africa Unite and many other civil

society and community-based

organizations with an interest in migration,

xenophobia and social cohesion.

The Migration Project convened two successful

CSO Training Workshops on the 10th and 11th

and again on the 25th and 26th of August.
