Talking about money can reveal our fears, our priorities, a bit about our family of origin and even help to diagnose our spiritual health. Jesus had a lot to say about money; but of all the things he said the above words from Matthew 6 always seem to be the least intuitive—but the most true. You see in our romantic world view we like to think that our money will follow our heart. Now think about all the good things that you heart would simply love to support: the poor animals who have no homes, the children who are starving, the scouts, the choirs, you alma mater, your favorite charities, your favorite ministries (including your church). Now take a look at your bank statement, how much of your treasure has followed your heart? In Eugene Peterson’s translation of the Bible he puts Matthew 6:21 this way: “It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.” It’s obvious. I put my treasure in my house, in my boat, in my 401K (retirement), in my cars, in my vacations, in my children. And those places where I’ve invested myself, those are the place in which I want to be. And there is nothing wrong with investing yourself in several places. I fully admit for the last 4 years I’ve invested a lot of time and energy serving as a coach at the High School. And of course here is the reality the more I invest my time, my resources, my talents into my work at the High School, well the more I want to be there, to be a part of what is going on and stay connected. Pastor Jeff

I tell the story all the time about my Grandfather who

when the preacher would begin to talk about money,

he would lean over and say: “Here comes the sermon

on the amount!” It’s a good one that I still use and

still brings a chuckle. I’ve never been uptight or

embarrassed about talking about money, in fact I find

it kind of fun as it often leads to discussions about

even deeper things. Talking about money can reveal

our fears, our priorities, a bit about our family of

origin and even help to diagnose our spiritual health.

Jesus had a lot to say about money; but of all the

things he said the above words from Matthew 6

always seem to be the least intuitive—but the most

true. You see in our romantic world view we like to

think that our money will follow our heart. Now think

about all the good things that you heart would simply

love to support: the poor animals who have no

homes, the children who are starving, the scouts, the

choirs, you alma mater, your favorite charities, your

favorite ministries (including your church). Now take

a look at your bank statement, how much of your

treasure has followed your heart?

In Eugene Peterson’s translation of the Bible he puts

Matthew 6:21 this way: “It’s obvious, isn’t it? The

place where your treasure is, is the place you will

most want to be, and end up being.” It’s obvious. I

And there is nothing wrong with investing yourself in

several places. I fully admit for the last 4 years I’ve

invested a lot of time and energy serving as a coach

at the High School. And of course here is the reality

the more I invest my time, my resources, my talents

into my work at the High School, well the more I

want to be there, to be a part of what is going on and

I t is June. The school year is winding down and so is the program year at Our Savior’s. As we wrap up the

program year, I would like to highlight some of the great work the music ministry does at Our Savior’s.

The Celebration Singers, our adult choir, has been providing beautiful choral music at Our Savior’s for

over 30 years. Each year we add new members. This group praises God with song at our 10:30am worship

as well as special services. They are on hiatus for the summer but will resume after Rally Day in the fall.

Maybe you would like to join us….

On Sunday evenings, we gather for our “Pause” worship service with music led by Rich Kirkpatrick.

“Pause” will continue through the summer. Join us at 6:00pm for worship and word throughout the

summer months.

Our very talented worship band provides music for both services throughout the program year. These

faithful musicians bring their gifts each Sunday for worship services, special services and special

congregational events. I really appreciate their dedication as they continue to support our worship services

throughout the summer.

We will continue to enjoy special music throughout the summer with solos, ensembles and instrumental

music during our 10:30am service (10:00am in July/August)

We are so fortunate to have these wonderful musicians at our church. They share their gifts for the love of

God.

Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD! Psalm 150:1-6

Changes

June is here and thus ends another school year,

graduates prepare for the big move to another school

or perhaps the start of a new career, and parents

watch misty eyed as their once-so-small kids prove

again that time marches on. While we can’t stop time

(much as we might want to) we can embrace the

changes and do whatever we can to help our children

move to their new situations with as much support as

possible.

To this end I would like to extend an open invitation

to the youth of Our Savior’s to participate in one of

our youth groups. If your child is entering the 6th

grade in the fall then they are welcome and invited to

join our Middle School youth group on Wednesday

evenings from 6:30-8pm beginning June 24. If your

teen is going into the 9th grade in the fall then they

are welcome to join our High School youth group

which meets on Sunday evenings from 6-8pm

beginning June 21st.

The Kids Club does not meet during the summer

months but will resume in the fall. Kids club is open

to all students in grades 3-5, but more on that later.

Recent studies have shown that involvement in a faith

based youth group have enormous positive life

impacts that show benefits that surpass sports and

even scouting!

Friends are always welcome in our youth groups so

please invite them and let’s move into summer with

fun, fellowship, and a good dose of the Holy Spirit!

Don’t forget that we will be offering Vacation Day

Camp (VDC) again this year July 27-31! VDC (not

VBS) is put on by the good people at LRCC

(Lutheran Retreats, Camps, and Conferences, the El

Camino Pines people) and is open to kids entering

grades K-6 in the Fall. This program is wonderful,

LRCC sends their energetic counselors to our campus

and they carry on the same programming that they do

at the mountain camp. The kids love it and usually

return year after year. Look for a registration form

elsewhere in this newsletter.

Thank you and I can’t wait to see how the groups

change and grow with the new season!

June Family Devotion:

F is for “FORGIVING.” Even when we disobey

or do something wrong, this person is willing to

forgive us.

A is for “ATTENTIVE.” When we need

someone to talk to, this person is willing to

listen to what we have to say.

T is for “TEACHER.” This person teaches us

the most important lessons of our life. He

teaches us right from wrong. He teaches us by

example how to love one another.

H is for “HELPFUL.” This person helps us to

make the important decisions we face each

day. He may offer advice, or he may just be a

good listener, but he is always there to help us.

E is for “ENERGETIC.” No matter how tired he

is, this person always seems to find the energy

to do things with us and for us.

R is for “READY.” This person is always ready

to reach out in love to us. He is ready to do

whatever we need.

Who is this person? Our father! Some of you might

not have a father in your home, but you have a

Heavenly Father who wants to do all of these things

for you. After all, that is who earthly fathers use as

an example!

Dear Lord, we thank you for our fathers. Help us

this day to show our love and appreciation to our

fathers and may we always remember to thank you,

our heavenly Father. Amen.

RELIEF WORK IN NEPAL…

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

Lutheran Disaster Response is committed to walking

with our brothers and sisters in Nepal, as rescue

efforts and assessments continue. Working with The

Lutheran World Federation, Lutheran World Relief,

the ACT Alliance, United Mission to Nepal and

other partners, our church is responding to

immediate and long-term needs.

As of May 7, gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response

totaling $500,000 have been allocated to support

these partners.

Following the second earthquake, our partners are

conducting assessments to determine how original

response plans will expand to address new needs.

Our response and projects will grow while we

remain committed to providing assistance to those

who need it most.

Active in Nepal since 1984, The Lutheran World

Federation began an immediate large-scale

emergency response in and around Kathmandu on

the day of the quake. Your gifts to Lutheran Disaster

Response will support the communion’s

establishment of shelters and camps and the

distribution of clean water, food, sanitation supplies

and more in several districts in the Kathmandu

Valley. The Lutheran World Federation is the lead

agency for ACT Alliance and has been asked by the

Nepalese government to take a seat on its emergency

coordination group, a note of appreciation for their

rapid response to the earthquake.

Active in Nepal since 2009, your gifts to Lutheran

Disaster Response will also support Lutheran World

Relief is distributing quilts, water filtration systems

and other emergency relief supplies. In addition,

your support is helping the United Mission in Nepal

oversee health care services with special medical,

introduced to American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe

(1887-1986). Georgia O’Keeffe was a famous

female American artist whose modern

desert and botanical paintings

inspired our children as they painted

in her style. Her love of the

American Southwest was reflected in

her work.

OSLS Annual Fund is excited to announce our

2015 Bathroom Rejuvenation Project

As you may know, our elementary bathrooms are in

dire need of an update! We are starting to receive

bids for this project and would love your support to

make this a reality.

~Key upgrades~

Replace existing sink faucets

Install electric hand dryers- less waste and germs

Replace existing toilets with compliant water

conserving toilets

Addition of second stall in boy’s restroom

New tile floors

New paint

Please consider donating to the Annual Fund to help

us achieve our goal of improving our campus and

enabling the continuation of important programs

including scholarships, curriculum enhancement and

teacher retention. Your generous support will greatly

help current and future students.

Thank you VERY much for your support!

Envelope 144 Sundays at the

Connections Table

Envelope 144 is your opportunity to invest in the

youth of our church by helping them on their way

to the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit,

Michigan.

On Sundays we will have 144 envelopes

available for you on the patio after each service.

Each envelope will have a number: 1, 2, 3, all the

way up to: 142, 143, and 144. We invite you to

take an envelope and return it with a dollar

amount matching the number.

For example: If you took envelope 78 you would

write a check for $78 and put that in the

envelope!

You will also find in the envelope a prayer card

for our youth attending the 2015 ELCA Youth

Gathering. We ask that you would pray for them,

and greet them as you see them in worship.

OSLC is sending seven teens to the 2015 ELCA

National Youth Gathering. This years theme is

RISE UP TOGETHER. We sincerely thank you

for helping to make this trip a reality!
