Thank you for hosting Batteries 2008 conference. We really enjoyed the interaction with other industry experts.

Rajat Mehta, Ventures and Business Development, The Dow Chemical Company

I was pleased to be able to meet many people in the battery industry that I had previously worked with on various projects & professional organizations, but had not met in person. I also met several people from my local area. The quality of the technical presentation was very good. Daren Slee, Senior managing Engineer,

Exponent Inc.

I would like to thank you for the organization that surrounded the entire Batteries 2008 conference in Nice earlier this month. I found the conference very interesting and just the right mix between real-life products/problems and research and development within the industry and university.

Recyclers, putting their experience to work for the entire battery supply chain

The 2006 Battery directive establishes a new regulatory framework about its introduction on the market, use and end of

life of batteries, whether portable, industrial or for the automotive industry, in order to minimize their environmental impact. This new regulation, which has already been implemented in most Member States (the deadline was 26th of September 2008) will have significant effects on the batteries market. Producers must take into account measures for minimizing the environmental impact starting from the design of batteries and accumulators.Among these, appear to be:• The limitation of certain substances such as lead, cadmium and mercury that affect recycling activities (treatment process, markets for recovered materials ...)

• The energy labelling of portable batteries in order to enable consumers to make the right choice• The objectives in terms of efficiency of recycling, in priority the recycling rate of recovered materials for batteries and accumulators after recycling process

• The transportation of batteries• The extraction of spent batteries of electrical appliances…

The implementation of the REACH regulations (substances and chemical preparations) has a significant impact both on our batteries are positioned on the market as on battery recycling. Lastly new battery technologies are emerging and will require the development of new recycling technologies. EBRA, which meets with almost all battery recycling enterprises, has gained extensive knowledge on various environmental aspects on batteries.

The Batteries Environment Outlook Forum aims to share acquired knowledge with all stakeholders.
