November Events –
Friday, November 11 is Veteran’s Day and Cowtown Vettes tradition-ally participates in the 2016 Veteran’s Day Parade in Downtown Fort Worth. Carol Savage has submitted an entry for our club and would like to have 35 Corvettes driving in the parade. Staging will take place at 9 AM at the Panther Island Pavilion, 395 Purcey St, Fort Worth, TX 76102. Parade will begin around 10:30 AM. You can sign up at the November meeting if you would like to participate.
Our last 100%er of the year will be the return engagement of Cow-town Goes Bowling on Sunday November 13 from 3-5 PM. We will meet at Cityview Lanes, 6601 Oakmont Blvd., FW, 76132. We each get 2 hours of bowling, plus shoe rental for $11. I need your reservation and your money no later than the November member-ship meeting. This was a lot of fun when we did it last year, so I invite all of you to participate.
Cowtown Goes Country Christmas Party - We are now taking res-ervations and payment for our annual Christmas Party. The date is Saturday, December 3 in the Lone Star Room at the Stockyards Station. The doors and the bar will open at 6 PM, and dinner will be served at 6:30. The price of $35 per person includes a holiday buf-fet, entertainment and a few surprises. As in the past, we will bring toys for the Toys for Tots program and will invite some members of the Marine Corps to be our guests for dinner and to accept the toys. Deadline to sign up and pay is November 16, but the signup sheet will be available at the November Membership Meeting. More details will follow.

I want to thank Bill Buehler and his committee for a great Car Show. We had a good turn-out and Ridgmar Mall will make a great new location in the fu-ture.
The November meeting will be the 2017 Officer Nominations from the floor and also the final vote for the 2016 Outstanding Male & Female.

It has been another busy month with the website, twelve new event pages and thousands of photos submitted to represent coverage of Drive-In Movie night, BRCC Car Show, NCCC
Autocross Event in Houston, CTV’s Car Show, the Chisholm 100’s Car Show, a Day at the State Fair and NCCC Autocross & Drag events in OKC.
I would like to recognize David Gill, William No-lan, Fred Proctor, Raley & Jo Anne Smith and Doc Lambert who provided photos and videos; to go along with our photos. Please don’t forget to keep your cameras handy – you never know when you might capture a once in a lifetime shot. We can always use more and different types of photos; a different eye behind the camera makes an event page content so much better. For any photo provided, I resize them for use on the web, the Low-Down and the slideshows at our member-ship meetings. Recognition is also provided to the photographer on each photo, prior to them being used.
As our 2017 Officer Election nears, we will have the candidates listed on the website, along with their Bio. I would invite you to read thru those once they are posted, so you can become familiar with their credentials. Your club officers make the decisions that keep this club strong and solid, so
we do need good qualified people in these posi-tions. I would hope that if you were nominated for any of these positions you have given it seriousthought. Also, just because someone has been in a position for years doesn’t mean someone else couldn’t do a better job. Also, speaking from ex-perience, getting involved in the club does benefit by helping you to enjoy the club even more.
As mentioned in previous months, I am working on a re-design of our club website; yes, a huge undertaking. I believe the home page has become somewhat busy and the overall look of the entire website has become somewhat dated. I would welcome input, likes/dislikes, samples of web-sites that you like, etc. to help make YOUR NEXT WEBSITE better than ever.
Please don’t hesitate to shout if you have sugges-tions, questions or comments about your Club’s website, Facebook account or eMail distribution lists. Likewise if you find any pages that have is-sues or if there is something you would like to see or things you dislike; after all this is YOUR website and I am only the caretaker of the website.

The 2016 Cruiser Program closes out November 6, 2016 when your cruiser log is due to be turned in to the Cruiser Chairman, William Nolan and your photos must be turned in by November 13, 2016. Remember they can be submitted in a photo album or scrapbook form or digitally via CD or thumb drive. Points will be verified and awards will be presented at the December meeting and the Christmas social.
The official cruiser competition is over, but we had hoped to enjoy another great day of cruising be-fore the end of the year. Robert and Cydnie Geyer had planned on leading a cruise to Nocona and the Horton Classic Car Museum in November, but it was determined that the CTV schedule for the remainder of the year was just too crowded. So that cruise has been pushed back until sometime in 2017. We will look forward to a fun time later on.
As the cruiser program finishes out another year, now is the time to make suggestions for how we
can improve this program....do you have sugges-tions for different categories, are there categories you don’t like, are there things about the cruiser program that are confusing, would you like to see a change in the point system....this would be a great time to voice your suggestions. The goal is to make this program “user friendly” and fun and to encourage more of our members to participate. As always it is a great way to see our state and our country and more importantly to enjoy driving our Corvettes!

Thank you to everyone who helped me with the door prizes and the 50/50 raffle at our Annual All Corvette Car Show on Saturday, October 15th. I couldn't have done it without you! Kudos to Donald Hickman for his efforts to contact our sponsors and past contributors to obtain all the wonderful prizes.
We raised a total of $1086. Dennis Whitford was the lucky 50/50 winner and went home with $543. Not bad for a day at a great car show! $543 went into our club charity fund. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets!

As my time in this role comes to an end, I would sincerely like to thank all of the functional chairper-sons and the dozens of workers that made
Cowtown’s 2016 NCCC Events successful this year. YOU made the difference and made this success possible. Together, we accomplished four great events for 2017. We started the year with a very good Practice Autocross out at Mineral Wells. We had several folks try it for the first time at this event and some did seem to get hooked. If you have never tried it – it is a total rush to push your Vette in a controlled environment; you might think about participating in this event next year.
The huge curve ball we were thrown late last year from TMS pushed us to move the 2015 TMS event to November and then to host our 20th Annual Super Speedway TMS event in April this year; only a few months after last year’s event. Even with less planning and lower attendance we pulled it off and hosted a great event. Many of us preferred this event in September however, it logically make sense to put this large event and our annual car show much further apart on the calendar. Next year, our TMS event will again be held the last weekend in April and we hope that you will want to be a part of it. Please mark your calendar for April 29 & 30, 2017. Our Corvette Scramble at Fat Daddy’s had the biggest attendance to date and everyone seemed to have a great time. This was the 5th year for this event and it seems to get more popular each year. Everyone has participated in a car show however, if you haven’t tried a Funkhana and/
or Rallyes, you should – we are the only southwest region NCCC club cur-rently hosting these type of events. Next year, this event will be one week earlier, on June 3rd, the morning after our Club Meeting, so I would invite you to mark your calendar.
The Autocross Scramble in Mineral Wells this September went off flawlessly thanks to every-one that helped to host that event. We were blessed that the storms passed us by Friday night, leaving everything in place for Saturday morning. The weather was great and everyone seemed to have a great time; lots of good com-ments from our guests. This event will be hosted the 4th weekend in September, one week later than normal. Please mark your calendar for Sep-tember 23-24, 2017.
It has been my pleasure to have served as Cow-town’s NCCC Event Coordinator for the past sev-eral years. I certainly could not have done the job without all the functional chairpersons that stepped up to run parts of these events. It also goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway be-cause it is important: those of you that worked corners, worked pre-staging, those that helped to setup and teardown, etc. it certainly could not have been done without YOU – I sincerely THANK YOU ALL!
For 2017, Donald Hickman will be your NCCC Event Coordinator and I will serve as his Co-Chair. I hope that you offer your support to him as you have for me over the last several years. If anyone would like to be involved to possibly move into this role in the future, we would wel-come you to shadow this year and to become Donald’s Co-Chair next year. These events are a lot of fun to host and Donald will be looking for a Co-Chair in 2018. Now, do you see the pro-gression pattern here? …if Cowtown would do this for every chairperson position we had, we would have the most well-rounded, knowledge-able club around in all areas and none of our members would not get burned out from being in a role year after year. The other benefit of people changing roles is that new people bring in new ideas and we need that – so give it some thought and I would invite you to get involved.If you have questions around NCCC, our events or competing, please don’t hesitate to contact myself, Donald or your NCCC Governor – Glen-da.

Well, the bad news was that our va-cation plans to Italy were changed by an earthquake that occurred 3 days before we were supposed to be there. Having no alternate plans, we decided to drive up to the NCM for the 22nd Annual An-niversary celebration. Cindy was
also getting her song “We the People of America” recorded as a demo in Nashville. This allowed us to be in the famous 16th Avenue studio (The Parlor) while the song was being cut. This stu-dio has been used to cut many famous country songs and is a state of the art venue. Thursday was an exciting day for us as we watched the magic being performed. Our friend and coun-try music hall of fame arranger and producer, Ron Oates, was there to run the show. Arriving in Nashville on Wednesday, we ate dinner with Ron and his wife at the famous “Loveless Café”. It offers great down home southern cooking, as well as killer Corvette photo ops. Highly recom-mended for anyone making a trip to the National Corvette Museum! Ron shared an amusing story with us. It seems that early on in his career, he was working with Roy Orbison, who drove his “66 Corvette to the studio. Admiring the car, Ron told Roy that he would love to have a car like his, but he couldn’t afford it. The car was 6 years old at the time, and Roy said he would sell it. Still not believing he could own such a car, Ron asked how much. When Orbison said he would sell it for $2,000, Ron jumped at the chance and they made the deal.
OK, enough about Nashville and on to Bowl-ing Green and the NCM. On Friday we experi-enced the Celebrity Car show. This event is like a show and shine type of event where everyone just kind of shows up, opens their hoods and talks cars to the other attendees and the general public. We missed most of this event because we got off to a late start, but there was plenty more going on. As your Cowtown Ambassador to the NCM, I was able to attend the yearly Ambassa-dors meeting. Some of this was business, but a lot of it involved giving out awards. The awards involved Best Newsletter (for stuff regarding the NCM), best website, and club of the year and the like. I have to say I was not aware of these
contests so we really did not enter anything for Cowtown, but hopefully next year we will participate. There were also discussions about club visits to the Mu-seum. The Museum people kind of told us how to plan and promote these visits, as well as how they can facilitate a good time when the club ar-rives. This sounds like a great way to do a long weekend cruise. I would be willing to lead a group on a club visit, so perhaps in 2017 we can put one on the calendar if there is enough interest.
On Friday night, Cindy and I attended the NCM Corvette Hall of Fame Banquet. This event was a lot of fun. We met some really nice Corvette folks who were sitting at our table and had a great visit with them while we ate a delicious meal. After the meal, a multi-media presentation was made about each of the 3 recipients. Two of the recipients were present with their families, and one of the recipients was deceased. Of the three honorees, there was famous Corvette racer Bob Bondurant, Ralph Kramer, who as a PR man for GM used his influence to help keep the Cor-vette alive during turbulent times and GM, and of course, Donna Mae Mims, the beautiful race car driver who loved Corvettes and was instru-mental in starting 3 Corvette clubs. It was an in-spirational evening that we enjoyed immensely.
On Saturday we enjoyed a cruise to Owens-ville, Kentucky where we dined on some great barbeque before heading home. It was a great weekend and as always, we enjoyed our time at the NCM.

You still have time to renew with Cowtown Vettes for 2017. Normal re-newals will be over after the Novem-ber membership meeting. (Nov. 4th) but you can still renew with a $10 late fee. We have a great active club
so remember to keep your membership active by providing payment to me at a meeting, asocial or mailing the check to my home.
The annual car show had a great turnout and a new location. It was blessed with great weather. Thank you for all that help to put on this event.
Southwest Region events are over for the year and as soon as I have all the points totals, we will know how the standings for Cowtown members are. It has been a good year for our club, even though we haven’t had very many people going out to other club’s events. Look at the 2017 schedule on the website and plan ahead to get involved and meet other National Council members from other clubs. We have made lots of good friends just by being out and about going to events. When Cowtown is the host make sure you meet some of these other people out having fun with their corvettes. If you are interested in getting involved with autocrossing or drag racing, sign-up and someone from Cowtown will be glad to take you under their wing and show you the way; to help you meet the participants &members of the host clubs. You do not have to participate to come and enjoy some fellowship with other corvette owners.
The weekend of Oct. 22nd-23rd was an autocross and drag event in Oklahoma. There were 6 new drag records set on Sunday. Congrats to all the new record holders! Made for a long day but it was lots of fun. These still need approval from Vice President of Competition before they are official. The air was dry and the temps were cool, so this meant a great day for drag racing.
