Thanks to all that came out to the Army of Hope (AOH) picnic at the Fort Walton Lodge. in August. We had over 20 members attend to support veterans and their families. Thanks to Kris Kane, our Veteran Service Committee chair-person for all her hard work in promoting this and other veteran events.

I have appointed Jim Fix as chair of the new GL Government Relations com-mittee. This committee was reinstated at the Elks National Convention in Aus-tin, Texas. Jim will select two other members for the committee. Jim, thanks for accepting this chair as well as for all your efforts to support our Lodge.

October 6th is our own annual DD visitation. From 2-5 PM, the district will be inspecting and auditing our Lodge and business practices, and officers are ex-pected to attend. After that, social hour starts at 5 PM, the meal is at 6 PM, business starts at 7 PM, and members are encouraged to attend

We have a signup sheet in the Club room for members that would like to attend the visitations to our and other lodges. We had 9 members attend the Crestview Lodge in September, and future visitations for October and after include Hol-ley-Navarre, Twin Cities, Warrington, Fort Walton, and Pensacola Beach Lodges. If you would like to attend any visitations (always on Saturday), sign up so we can alert the host lodge as to how many visitors to expect.

A shortened version of rituals has been GL-approved for use in Lodges pro-vided their By–Laws are amended to allow such use. We amended our By-Laws in September to allow use of alternate rituals approved by the Grand Lodge, and the amendment is awaiting GL approval. The shortened versions for opening, closing, and initiations should reduce the member meeting time considerable. Come out and visit the Lodge. Linda, our Lodge Activities Chairperson, has a list of events in the Log, and they are also listed in the Lodge Calendar. There is something for everyone, so come out and let’s get together!

Toby & I both purchased a Harry Anna Trust Fund and an Elks National Foundation Certificate to be paid in 5 yearly $20 payments. I would like to challenge each member of our lodge to do the same. If you need more information please see me at the lodge. You may also donate by going on line to Flor-ida State Elks (floridaelks.org), click on Harry Anna Trust Fund, and fill out the form for donating to the Harry Anna Trust. Go to the Grand Lodge Website (Elks.org/enf) for the Elks National Foundation. Be sure to put in our lodge name and number 2787 to ensure our lodge gets credit for your donation.

Membership Vote Results

At the September 11th Lodge membership meeting, members voted to approve:

(1) A by-law revision to allow use of alternative rituals approved by the Grand Lodge. This was a

proposal in Resolution 2012-03 that passed at the Grand Lodge convention in July 2012. Our Sec-

retary will forward the amendment to the GL for final approval.

(2) A proposed amendment to the Elks Constitution to eliminate the Grand Lodge Treasurer

(whose duties will be assumed by the Grand Secretary). Our Secretary will forward our vote

results to the Grand Lodge.

Army of Hope

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Army of Hope activities. All of your efforts…from the volunteers who worked at the event

to folks who tossed spare change into the “donation pig”…were key to making the picnic a success and to raising money for the Elks

Army of Hope fund, which supports our Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. I appreciate your commitment to serving our veterans

and look forward to working future Veterans Services Committee projects with the Holley-Navarre Elks team.
