Fellow Members,

Spring has definitely sprung, and the cold weather is finally behind us. That

was proven on Saturday, the day before Easter. The Lodge hosted over 50

kids from around the community, to include the kids that are treated by the

Florida Elks Northwest District Youth Therapist, Elizabeth Maina. Elizabeth

had taken the time out of her busy schedule to accompany the kids she treats

along with the parents to the Lodge’s Annual Children’s Easter Party. The

kids were able to partake in the Moon Bounce, Easter Egg Hunt, and of course

the “Hog Shoot”. Thanks to Linda Griner for organizing this special event,

and all those helped out. Also, thanks to Cal Boehm and his crew for heading

up the “Hog Shoot” the same day. The kids had a great time shooting, and

every family was awarded a free ham. For those of you who missed the Redneck Throw down, ran by our very own

Bar Manager, Lynn Glossop, you definitely missed out. For all of us who were

there, we had one heck of a great time. The event included a pig chase (yes, I

chased and caught a pig), hay roll, a great menu of food to include Fried Mul-

let with hush puppies, cheese grits, and many other sides. There was also en-

tertainment by Jimmy Dale Peacock. Jimmy was great, providing a variety of

Country Music and Southern Rock. We are definitely going to call on Jimmy

to play again on Friday nights. Thanks to all those who helped Lynn with this

event, to include one of our Bartenders, Lisa and her boyfriend James.

Our Wednesday dinners this month have proven to be a great success. Thank

s to Robin Stevens heading them up and all those who helped. For the month

of May, Robin has more great things planned with entertainment included.

Check out the calendar, and bring yourselves out to the Lodge, and enjoy the

great food, fun, and fellowship. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Robin also has

activity meetings the first Monday of every month. This is a great opportunity

for you to come out and provide ideas of what you would like to see happen at

the lodge. Check the calendar for times.

Toby and Linda Griner, Hans Offenborn, and I attended the District Deputy

Clinic at Warrington Lodge 2108. The Clinic was an opportunity for the Dis-

trict Leadership to convey to the new Leadership of the Lodges within the dis-

trict, what they expect and provide news on upcoming district events. It was

also a chance for District Chairman of the various committees to provide year

end results. Interestingly enough, our lodge placed 2nd in the entire state of

Florida in Membership gain out of 103 active lodges, for the Elk year 2012-

2013. For those of you who recruited and helped to retain membership; Con-

gratulations on this awesome feat.

In addition to the Lodge Events this month, are our annual Mother’s Day

Ceremony will be held on Sunday May 12, 2013 at 2pm; and Memorial Day

Service to be held at the Navarre Memorial Park jointly with the local VFW

and American Legion Posts (more details to follow). Please come out to both

of these events, as they are both performed with dignity and respect. Food will

be served after both events. The Elks State Convention will be held at the

Coronado Springs Resort from May 23 – 26, 2013. All members are invited to

attend, and is well worth the trip, if you’ve never been. Check the Florida

State Elks website for details - www.floridaelks.org

Lastly, The Northwest District PER (Past Exalted Rulers) Association is raffling

off an IPAD 2. Tickets are $5.00 for a packet of 6. See me or the bartender for

tickets. The drawing will be held at the Lodge on 10 August 2013, at the August

DD Clinic. You do not need to be present to win.

Take Care and see you around the Lodge,

Membership Committee Last year we had an ending membership of 194. This was an increase of 22 mem-bers thanks to the efforts of all our members and the membership committee. We were #2 in the state for membership increase at last count. We need to keep up the good work and strive to increase our membership again this coming year.

We, as members, are the ones that can propose new members. So we all need to look for worthy candidates within our circle of friends and acquaintances. Bring in your friends and acquaintances to the Club or Lodge events as guest so they can be introduced to other members and get a glimpse of Elkdom brotherhood and charita-ble works.

Our Lodge also grants free Lodge use to non-profit charitable organizations, and this brings in new people that can also see what Elks are all about. If you know of such an organization that would like to use lodge facilities for events or meetings, let ER Tom Stevens or myself know. We will make the arrangements.

As is normal at the end of any year, we have 42 members who have not yet paid their dues for next year. We want you to remain as members, so please mail in your dues to the Secretary or come to the lodge and pay at the Club.

June and July are months that the Lodge charges only $1 (instead of $50) for the reinstatement fee. If you know of any lapsed member from previous years that would like to rejoin, pass this information on to them. We would love to have them back!

Providing tomorrow’s leaders, our youth, with a healthy beginning.

Honoring the Elks pledge to never forget our veterans.

Helping the state Lodge projects that improve the quality of life in local Elks communities.

Funding

We need every Elk to donate to the ENF so we can continue to fulfill their pledge. ENF gives back to the lodges

who meet their per capita donation quota per year, which is $4.50. I am sure with every member donating even

a small amount; we will make our per capita this year. See me at the lodge to sign up, leave a check to ENF in

an envelope marked “Linda” at the Club bar, or go online and sign up at www.enf.elks.org/donate—be sure to

put Holley-Navarre Lodge, #2787 on your check. Your donation is tax deductible. We received a $1000.00

grant last year to help with the Easter Party for the needy children in our community after we met our quota.

With your help, we can do that again next year.

Page 7 Sickness and Distress

I wanted to take a few minutes and let you know what's going on around the Lodge.

Starting this Friday, the 26th, and continuing every Friday, in addition to our usual Bingo and Friday night

cookouts, we are going to have entertainment on the back deck, with Jimmy Dale Peacock. Jimmy was here a

couple of weeks ago, playing for our Redneck Throw down, and was received very well, and was asked to play on

Fridays. Jimmy's got some great sounds ranging from Classic to Modern Country Western to Southern

Rock. Come on out the lodge and have a stompin good time.

Saturday, the 27th at 6:30pm is our 1st Annual Incoming/Outgoing Officers Dinner, to include Entertainment

with Ron Drulet. Ron Drulet is a one man band, playing music in the styles of Jimmy Buffet, Kenny Ches-

ney, The Beatles, and much more. On the Menu, are appetizers, salad, Grilled Chicken and Steak Shish kabobs

with a mixed grill of Vegetables. Tickets are 15.00 per person, and can be purchased in the lounge. Please see

your bartender for tickets, or purchase them at the door. Please come out and greet our New and Veteran Offi-

cers, have a great meal, and enjoy the music and great company of fellow Elks.

Our Thursday Darts here at the Lodge have been a huge success, thanks to Rick Hahn, and all those participat-

ing. We have had great fun, great food, and a very relaxing good time. This will be a seasonal event. Tonight is

our last night for the Winter season of darts, but will start back up in a couple of months. In the mean time, I

would like to replace Thursday night darts in the off season with Texas Hold'em tournaments. If you feel you can

"play your cards right", and Texas Hold'em sounds like a lot of fun to you, please email me back. When I receive

enough feed back, and we have enough players, we'll get started. The plan is Texas Hold'em every Thursday

night, starting 6pm, or what ever is practical. We'll start off with food provided the first week, and a sign-up

sheet for players to take turns to provide food the following weeks. I have 2 complete poker sets, all you have to

do is bring your poker face. Again, let me know what you think.

Tom Stevens, Exalted Ruler

Elk’s Caring, Elk’s Sharing and Elk’s Having Fun!

Past Lodge Events The Easter egg/Ham shoot was a very successful event funded with a Beacon Grant of $1000. We had 53 children

to attend the party. Elizabeth, our fiscal therapist for the Florida State Association Therapy Service, attended

and brought five families with a total of 15 children. We had children from the Billory Church Bread of Life

charity program, along with others that attended from the community and Elks families.

We had over 400 (plastic) eggs for the children to find (many containing candy, prizes, or coins), a variety of

games, a cake walk, a bounce house, face painting, and of course, the ham shoot. All the children enjoyed the

ham shoot as they aimed at targets with BB guns (thanks to Pat and Cal for supervising the ham shoot). Thirty

families were given a ham to take home along with goodie bags. All the children received a toy when playing

many different games. Pizza and hot dogs were served to all along with plenty of drinks and deserts.

I would like to thank everyone who helped with this event—about 20 Elks and many other volunteer non-Elks. I

look forward to seeing all of you next year.
