NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
Llanrumney forum is run by a group of volunteers, it is al-
ways looking for volunteers to help out with various things
that are done in its name. It could be working as a team
composing this magazine, it could be delivering this maga-
zine and it could be giving a Christmas dinner to the senior
citizens. There needs to be people in the community that
express a desire to improve our peoples and their lives ,
young or old.

Hopefully summer is now approaching and we can begin to for-
get about winter coughs and colds. However there are still plen-
ty of viral illnesses around. Just a reminder that most coughs,
colds and sore throats do not improve with antibiotics but just
need paracetamol, fluids and rest.
We have now finished giving flu vaccinations for this year and
will start again in October. However we have been surprised at
the poor response to the children nasal flu vaccine. This was
offered this year to 2, 3, and 4 year olds as well as children who
have illnesses that put them at risk from the complications of
flu . These same groups will be offered the vaccine, which is a
drop in each nostril, again this autumn and we would strongly
recommend that as many children as possible are given this pro-
tection.
As thoughts turn to holidays, we would like to remind you that
surgery offers a Travel Vaccine Service. If you are planning a
trip abroad and think you may need vaccinations , please phone
the surgery and leave your name and phone number and one of
the practice nurses will contact you. Most vaccines are
administered free of charge, however some of the more exotic
destinations may need vaccinations which are charged. The
nurse will explain this to you . It is important to have these vac-
cinations planned well in advance for them to be fully effective.

We would like to remind you that
Stop Smoking Wales still run weekly sessions at the
surgery . So far there has been a good success rate
amongst patients who have attended these sessions. If
you are considering giving up smoking just leave your
name and phone number at reception and yuou will be
contacted. DON’T FORGET.
5 CIGARETTES A DAY COST APPROX £600 PER YEAR
10 CIGARETTES A DAY COST APROX £1000 PER YEAR
20 CIGARETTES A DAY COST APROX £2000 PER YEAR
Finally it would be much appreciated if you could make
sure that the surgery has up to date phone number . It
could save a lot of time if we ere able to contact more
patients easily by phone.
Have a lovely summer, and don’t forget, this is a great
time of year to think about improved diet and exercise
The doctors and nurses are happy to help and give
advice which is suited to you.
