He Found Me in a Waste

Howling Wilderness Indeed! (from John Newton’s Letters)

My Dear Friend, My history is briefly expressed in the following verses:

“In a desert land he found him—in a waste howling wilderness. He shielded him and cared for him—He guarded him as the apple of his eye.” Deuteronomy 32:10 “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them. I will turn the darkness into light before them, and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do—I will not forsake them!” Isaiah 42:16 He found me in a waste howling wilderness indeed! He has led me about into a variety of situations, and in them all he has watched over me, and kept me as the apple of his eye. When I was blind—He led me in the ways I knew not, in which no mortal could have supposed were likely to bring me where I now am. I was once an utter stranger to the paths of truth and righteousness—but in a wonderful manner he drew and guided me into holy paths which I had not known. And though my heart is prone to wonder, He has kept me with a mighty hand, so that I have not wholly declined from them. How often he has made darkness light before me, and crooked things straight! These things he has done for me, as I am encouraged to hope He will continue to do them, for His promise is, “I will never forsake them!” “Come magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together!” He has guided us by His eye, guarded us along the way, restored us when fainting, healed us when wounded, upheld our souls in adversity, helped us in all our difficulties, and supported us under all our sorrows!

From Our As we look at the world today, our minds and hearts o en get stuck on TODAY instead of the promise of the life to come-Eternity! 1 John 1:1-2. This mindset comes from a focus on the world around us; o en sta c and appearing hopeless! To get out of the rut, we need to spend me, in private, with the Lord, acknowledging our weaknesses and praying for strength! The strength I speak of is one where we learn to depend on the blood of Christ that has freed us from earthly limita-

ons. The word “sin” cannot be ignored but rather ac-cepted as what had caused us to be separated from the blessings He has promised. In John 3:3-8, we see the freshness of a new birth, a new beginning! All the illusions that have held us back on earth, disappear and we receive the new gi of eter-nal life! The chains of earth have been broken through the Christ of Calvary who willingly accepted the suffer-ing of all of our sin to give us eternal Life! As we “Let go and let God”, new life on earth, apprecia ng and ac-cep ng the gi of eternal Life erases the worries of earthly living! The Church is the gathering place for the new beginning and growth-sanc fica on. We become New Creatures no longer shouldering the heavy burden of the here and now and flying as lightly as the bu erfly-symbol of Eter-nal Life! May the Lord bless and guide you on the Journey He has prepared and go in peace! Yours In Christ, Pastor Eddie

Amazing Grace by John Newton

Amazing grace how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost But now I'm found Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my Fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed

Through many dangers toils and snares I have already come

'Twas grace hath brought me safe thus far And grace will lead us home

When we've been there ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun

We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we first begun

June 2019 e-Newsletter

With your support, Northeastern Food Pantry pro-vided supplemental groceries and personal care items for 257 people during the month of May, 2019. There were 100 families which included 69 children, 112 adults, and 76 seniors. We would like to thank the Letter Carriers from local US Post Offices for collecting food from the com-munity during the recent Letter Carriers Food Drive. Many thanks also go out to local residents who do-nated and to volunteers who helped make this food drive a success. Your generous contributions of food along with our volunteer’s time have re-stocked our Pantry shelves. Thank you so much! If you would like to donate food or personal care products, non-perishable items can be placed in the brown locker at the rear of the church. If you have perishable items, please call ahead (717-266-6785) to make sure someone will be at the Pantry to re-ceive your items for proper storage. Please consider donating canned fruits. We gener-ally have peaches, applesauce, fruit cocktail and mandarin oranges in the pantry, but could use other types of canned fruits such as pineapples, pears, apricots, etc. All varieties of low sugar or unsweet-ened canned fruits are helpful for clients with sugar restricted diets. Please consider donating a few hours a month of your time to help at the Pantry. If you are interested in volunteering, please call Belle Craul at 717-870-4128 to learn more about ways you can volunteer. If you cannot volunteer now, but know of someone who would be interested, please share this infor-mation with them.

Gree ngs: The Northeastern Clothing Bank is located at 4326 N. George St. Ext (beside the Pizza Box) in Man-chester, PA. We are an outreach ministry of St. Paul United Methodist Church and are staffed by all volunteers. We have been at this loca on since 1999. All clothing that is sold here has been donat-ed by people in the community. Prices are ex-tremely low to lessen the stress of paying store or consignment prices. We have many families who do back to school shopping at our store as well as year round. Everyone is welcome to shop at the clothing bank. No income restric ons apply. Bags of free clothing are given to people seeking help upon request or referral as well as the school dis-trict for emergency clothing needs. We have been able to support ourselves in the past as our previous landlord recognized our minis-try and kept our rent on a level which we could afford. However when the Manchester Plaza was sold 3 years ago we experienced a significant raise in our rent. Dona ons from individuals, churches, local com-munity organiza ons and sales are our sole source of income. Our funds are very low at this me and for us to keep this ministry alive, we need your help. We would appreciate your thoughts and prayers given to this ministry. We would also appreciate any monetary dona ons you may feel lead to give. Please help us keep our doors open. If you would like to help us keep our doors open please mail your check (payable to Northeastern Clothing Bank) to St Paul United Methodist Church, 4360 Board Road, Manchester, PA. 17345 A en-

on: Northeastern Clothing Bank or drop off a check at the church. Dona ons may be made monthly, quarterly or one me only as you are able to donate. Thank you for your prayerful con-sidera on in this ma er. In His grace, Northeastern Clothing Bank Board of Directors Ben Binkley, Chairperson 717-266-8460

Students also take turns each week to close the class in prayer.
