I hope that this message finds you all well. Last month, Pastor Susan shared that she is going to be retiring as of December 2, 2018. Given this, I am sure that members of our congregation are curious about the up-coming process for transition. Members of the Vestry met with Canon Lucinda on October 6 and then Bishop Brian on October 13. Here are the most important take-aways from those discussions.

1. The first thing to note is that the transition process will not actually begin until Pastor Susan’s retirement and not all of the details have been shared.

2. We need two committees to work over the next month to assist with our parish’s farewell to Pastor Susan.

a. The first committee will be planning the reception following

the service the evening of December 2.

b. The second committee will be coordinating Pastor Susan’s retirement gift.

3. The work of transition will begin after December 2. Until then, it is important that the parish focus on Pastor Susan’s leaving the parish. The Vestry is accepting applications for the Transition Committee through November 13, but that is so they can be formed and start as quickly as possible after Pastor Susan’s retirement.

4. Canon Lucinda is working with her schedule to enable her to be with St. Luke’s one Sunday per month, beginning in January, when physi-cally possible.

5. Canon Lucinda and Bishop Brian are seeking an interim priest for St. Luke’s and the Vestry will be informed as that progresses.

The Vestry anticipates getting more details when it meets on December 3. However, at this point, we have been asked to stress that the focus of our congregation needs to be on bringing our pastoral relationships with Pastor Susan to a close.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them to a Vestry member. We want to ensure transparency and make this period as smooth as possible.

God bless you all and I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Volume 17, Issue 11 Page 3 Transition Committee Application

You are invited to apply to be a member of the Transition Committee. The Transition Committee is tasked, along with the Vestry, with finding our next clergy leader. The Commit-tee will be comprised of 10-12 persons.

Qualifications

Members must be at the center of the Parish Community and regular in worship and giving to the mission and ministry of the Parish. Transition Committee members need to be reli-able, able to complete tasks, positive people, and good team players. The team needs to be trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality, and desirous of a good outcome.

Time Commitment

Your choice to serve also includes a commitment to the time the work will require. Transition Committee members may be called upon to help lead parish conversations or events that further the process of revealing who we are and our Christian mission in our area.

Serving on the Transition Committee is serious commitment. Members will be expected to attend regular meetings, to follow through on tasks in a timely manner, and to serve for the full duration of the process.

The Committee will meet frequently throughout the process, and the committee will determine the schedule of meetings. Although we don’t know how long our search process could take, the average search requires approximately 12-18 months to complete.

The Vestry thanks you for your time and interest

in serving on the Transition Committee. Applications are due November 13th. The Vestry will make the

committee selection and notify members shortly thereafter.

Our Tuesday Tidings will announce the committee formally.

A Message from the

Spiritual Director By Cher Stone

On September 16th, we heard Rev. Deb Adams explain in her sermon the answer to the question “Who is Jesus to you?” She had a wonderful anecdotal answer that I would retell, but I couldn’t do it jus-tice. However, what I can tell you is that her and others’ sermons are the answer to a question I get often—why go to church?

So here is my anecdotal answer. Besides the very interesting sermons, I love my companion in the pew, the community of worshipers—the church as defined by Paul in his letters. I don’t come expecting an Epiphany, but instead, a few smiles, hugs and friendship that go deeper than mere acquaintances. I come for family and in many cases, like it or not, we are related.

Related by the fiving and receiving of our everyday lives, taking car of each other, showing our love for God by cherishing all things, animate or inanimate, created by God.

I other words, living into the two great commandments:

Love God with all your heart, mind and soul.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

So, I invite you to come Sundays—

Come into Unity

Come into Union

Join our COMMUNITY in praise, worship, music, support, laughter, insight, prayer and outreach. Begin you new journey into COMMUNION.

The St. Luke’s Prayer Chain

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will,

he hears us.” 1 John 5:14

The St. Luke’s Prayer Chain is made up of church members who are called to the ministry of prayer. Any member of the Prayer Chain may be called to initiate a “prayer request.” This request is then passed along the chain until it returns to the member who received the call. (If one member is unavailable to receive the call, Prayer Chain members will call the following person on the list.) The Prayer Chain members will keep all prayer requests confidential. POSTCARD MINISTRY

by Buddy Hall

Have you enjoyed getting Postcards from St. Luke’s for your birthdays, anniversaries, and when your name comes up on the Parish Cycle of Prayer? There is a ministry team that sends these cards. Each person takes a month or two during the year. I make sure that the lists, postcards, and stamps are ready to go before the first of each month. I need a volunteer to send out the postcards for December 2018, July 2019, and December 2019. It’s fun and easy. Please contact Buddy if you can help. Call or text 208-351-9376. Thank you!
