Position Description
Required Training and Experience
A Library Computer Aide, upon application, shall have the following training and experience: Required: Graduation
from high school or equivalent; Preferred: Previous library public service experience helpful Associate level degree or
some college
General Statement of Duties
A Library Computer Aide assists Library users in the Computer Room assuring that all computers, the SAM print
management system and printers are functioning properly and assisting users with access to the internet and use of
the computers. Library Computer Aides enforce the Library Internet and Computer Use Policy if necessary with the
support of the Reference Librarian.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A Library Computer Aide may be called upon to do any or all of the following (These examples do not include all of
the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform): • Clear paper jams • Assist with use of MS Office
products • Monitor functioning and correct problems with SAM print management function • Reinforce the Library
internet policy
Qualifications for Employment
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic personal computer problems • Excellent public service skills • Excellent
written and verbal communication skills • Ability to follow written and verbal directions • Dependability, energy, self-
motivation and positive attitude • Ability to reach, bend, stretch and stand for long periods

Part-time Circulation Clerk
The Clarkston Independence District Library is seeking a friendly, skilled, detail oriented individual who is able to work independently and as part of a Circulation services team. Salary: $8.15-$14.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience Hours: 4–27.5 per week Primary job duties: Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Greet and direct library patrons • Understand and follow library policies and procedures • Assist patrons with circulation needs in person and over the phone • Check out, discharge and renew library materials • Register patrons for library cards, issue and renew cards • Update patron accounts regarding expiration dates, fines etc. • Collect fines and fees and operate cash register • Answer patron questions and solve problems regarding circulation of library materials • Assist patrons with copier and coin operated fee collection • Empty book drop • Check in library materials • Sort materials onto carts • Handle interlibrary loan and hold materials • Maintain discretion in accordance with Michigan’s Library Privacy Act • Assist with opening/closing procedures
Qualifications:
• Professional and enthusiastic attitude towards providing public library service to patrons • Ability to use computer work station • Strong oral communication skills • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships • Ability to count money and make change • Good alphabetical and numerical filing skills • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System • Able to stand for extended periods of time • Able to push loaded book carts • Able to bend, stoop and lift • Must be detail-oriented • Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems, Polaris preferred • Flexibility to work varied hours

The IT Page works under the general supervision of the Technology Coordinator, providing desktop and network support
to staff and library patrons. This position is designed to provide ongoing support for the Library’s technology
infrastructure.
Hours: 10 to 20 hours each week. Flexible scheduling is essential. Includes availability on weekends and evenings. This
is a part-time position.
Pay Rate: $10.00/hr

Duties include the following:
1. Maintaining staff workstations, including Windows Update, Browser Plugins, and other required software and
peripherals
2. Ensuring anti-virus and security updates are properly applied
3. Helping maintain public access workstations, peripherals and related software for daily use.

and network technologies.
The Computer Page is engaged in helping the public use Library resources, and helping people with basic and advanced
usage of computers and the Internet, as well as some troubleshooting software, services and equipment.

3. Assisting users by doing simple and intermediate troubleshooting as needed related to printing, emailing, using

Skills Required:
1. Familiarity with the Windows computing environment, including general knowledge of Windows 7, Windows 8,

Position Summary:
The Harper Woods Public Library Director is responsible for the daily operation of the library
office, the development and administration of policies, and the selection, hiring, and supervision of
staff and their activities. He or she provides oversight on the selection of materials and the
development of services. The Library Director is responsible for strategic planning and budget
development as well as the daily management of the library, which serves a population of 14,000 in
northeastern Wayne County.
The director’s authority and powers are derived from the Board of Trustees, which in turn guides
the director in making major decisions and monitors job performance. The director submits regular
reports to the Board to keep it informed of the condition of the facility, library programs,
community collaborations, the activities of local and state library organizations, and governmental,
legislative and legal actions that may affect the organization
Responsibilities
Acts as the de facto Head of Human Resources for the city in library-specific matters
(payroll, vacation, sick and personal time requests, petty cash and mileage allotments,
facility issues, patron, and staff health concerns).
Approves all invoices and check requests for payment by the city.
Oversees the general public relations efforts produced by the staff and the publication of
these items in electronic or written form.
Acts as the library’s primary spokesperson to the community and the media.
Serves as liaison with the Friends of the Library.
Responsible for the selection, training, discipline, and termination of library personnel.
Pursues appropriate granting opportunities.
Manages patron concerns; is responsible for disciplinary actions regarding patrons who
violate library policy or state or local ordinances.
Develops and maintains library operation and policy manuals.
Ensures that the professional certifications of the staff are compliant with state standards;
promotes the professional development of staff.
Represents the library at the Suburban Library Cooperative director’s council and other
committees.
Writes and submits appropriate reports to local and state agencies.
Covers circulation clerk duties on an as needed basis.
Covers reference desk duties as needed.
Collaborates with appropriate Board representatives to prepare meeting agendas and
monitor revenues and expenditures.
Supervises and/or performs the library opening or closing procedures as needed.
Works with the Suburban Library Cooperative to insure proper technology levels and
equipment compliance.
Oversees/manages the library building and library grounds maintenance.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Masters of Library Science (MLS) Degree from an ALA-accredited program.
Eligible for a Level 1 or Level 2 certification from the Library of Michigan Level 1 certification qualifications: (a) A master's degree or its equivalent from a library school accredited by the American library association. (b) Four years of full-time employment, or an equivalent time period, consisting of paid professional library work experience in a library approved by the department following the completion of educational requirements. Level 2 certification qualifications: A master's degree or its equivalent from a library school accredited by the American library association.
Capability to organize work and perform multiple tasks.
Facility to handle confidential information in an appropriate and secure manner.
Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library services.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with professional office computer applications.
Previous experience working in public libraries as a librarian, with four years of
supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to work and communicate with staff, volunteers, community leaders and patrons in a
team environment in a professional and courteous manner.
Knowledge of library materials, formats, and resources.
Enthusiastic and positive public service orientation.
