Time: 11:30 amLocaon Nino’s Restaurant 801 Broadway Avenue Saskatoon, SKWebsite; hp://meewasinvalley.freetoasthost.org Club Contact: Don FrancisPhone: 306.382.7813Email: [email protected]

Guests are always welcome. Come out and discover the leader within you.

Leaders want to see others grow. They find joy when others succeed. That is what I love about Meewasin Valley Leaders. The interests of our members reach far beyond their own.

Whether it be through Table Topics, prepared speeches, or conversaon following the meeng, there is opportunity to discuss challenges, successes, and experiences with others who may have been there before. Your fellow members can offer support, encouragement, and advice. I encourage everyone to use the resources in the

room to help you reach your goals. It is this MVL culture of collaboraon that led me to select “Achieving Together” as the club theme for 2010-2011. Through coaching, mentoring and encouragement, we can help each other succeed - that’s leadership in acon.

I look forward to acknowledging each member’s achievements this year. Get ready to celebrate!

Recommended ReadingLile Gold Book of YES! AtudeBy Jeffrey Gitomer

How can you go wrong with a book subtled “How to Find, How can you go wrong with a book subtled “How to Find, Build, and Keep a YES! Atude for a Lifeme of SUCCESS”? This ny 194 page book is packed with praccal, aconable

advice. It leads you through developing a lifelong posive atude, enhanced by YES!

The book leads the reader through developing this atude in all areas of your life. Gitomer not only gives common sense advice like “It’s your thoughts behind

the words you speak that create your atude,”

but also gives praccal examples for pung

the advice into pracce.

Throughout the book you

learn that YES! Is a wonderful alternave to NO! By being reminded of atudes like, “I will not gripe or whine about my lot in life. Rather, I will celebrate all I have, all I love, and all I will learn.”

The author draws on experse from some very movaonal people like Jim Rohn, Earl Nighngale, and Orison Swe Marden. Combining the wisdom of these people with his own philosophy, Gitomer is able to make a convincing argument that we all have a choice in our atude, and that choice is best if it is a YES! Atude.

Taking the reader through Five point Five elements, the author examines:

• Insight to Your Inside Atude• Atude Self Awareness• Atude Acons• Atude Aributes• Atude Achievement• Atude Fulfillment

I recommend this book for either a complete atude makeover or for a minor atude adjustment.

Education

Next month’s theme: Team Experience/Climate

Our meeng in October will focus on Teams and the climates in which they operate and thrive. We look forward to the opportunity to expand our learning and experience in this area. We all know that teamwork is one of the cornerstones of moving an organizaon forward. Nobody is an island, we all operate best in the company of others who are working toward common objecves.

Programming Input

As we progress through the year we need to make sure that the needs of our members are being met. That means that your input into our programming for our meengs is important. If you have any ideas for themes or any programming suggesons, our Vice President Educaon will be happy to listen to your ideas and consider them for future meengs. The club is about the members, and that’s you.

Club Suggesons

Our club execuve is here to serve you. If you have any suggesons for ways to improve our meengs please feel free to approach our execuve members to discuss your ideas with you. We want to make your experience with Meewasin Valley Leaders a posive one that allows you the opportunies for growth and learning that you are looking for.

Who Are We?

Meewasin Valley Leaders is a club that lives up to its name. Leaders are exactly what our memebers are. The members of Meewasin Valley Leaders acvely share their experience and experse, from within and from outside of Toastmasters, with the members of our club, members of our Area, our Division, and members of District 42.

Last year, our club had five district officers:

Immediate Past District Governor - Joan McAulayDistrict Public Relaons Officer - Mike ConradDivision E Governor - Don FrancisArea E2 Governor - Cecile CoppensArea E37 Governor - Vi Hawkins

That in itself is impressive, but the story doesn’t end there. Once again, this year, our club has a crop of District officers. This year we have four district officers:

District Lt. Governor Markeng - Don FrancisDivision E Governor - Cecile CoppensArea E2 Governor - Jennifer Falastein

Area E37 Governor - Vi Hawkins

As our members progress through their roles, whether on the District Execuve Council, the Club Execuve, or in meeing roles, they learn. They learn from experience, they learn from the experience of others, and they learn by incorporang the feedback that they receive from their fellow members.

Sharing experse and experience is what our club is about. We are building strong leaders that will help to carry our Club, Area, Division and our Discrict forward. As we progress, we are helping to meet the needs of our members by providing opportunies for growth in both communicaon and leadership.

Keep building our people, Meewasin Valley Leaders!

Each month we would like to feature one or two members in the newsleer. A short biographical informaon sheet/quesonnaire will be distributed electronically. We ask that you fill it out and return it to Don Francis at your earliest convenience. We would like to include a picture with each featured member, so we ask that you also include a picture that we can use for that purpose. Thanks for your cooperaon.

Dues are Due

Every September our club Treasurer collects our member dues for the year. This year our Treasurer is Vi Hawkins, and she is out of the country. So, this begs the queson: “Who do we pay our dues to?” The short answer is Jennifer Falastein, our President.

Jennifer has offered to collect the dues in Vi’s absence. Please make your cheque payable to Meewasin Valley Leaders for the amount of $84.

Jennifer will ensure that our dues are paid to Toastmasters Inter-nanal before October 1st in order to qualify for our Disnguished Club Goal.

Club Contests

Our September meeng will have our club contests. We will have a Humorous Speech Contest and a Table Topics Contest. These will prove to be very entertaining for everyone involved , whether you are a contestant, a contest official, or a spectator.

Contests are a great way to showcase the talents of our members. Each of our contestants will be performing on a level field. Everyone starts with the same opportunity to excel in their cra as they immerse themselves in the compeon.

Our Humorous speech contest will have two contestants – Angie Slipchuk and Lynne Marr. We look forward to a wonderful compeon filled with fun.

Our Table Topics Contest will have four contestants – Angie Slipchuk, Corinne Haack, Lynne Marr, and Joan McAulay. This will prove very interesng as our contestants answer a challenging queson.

We wish all of our contestants the best of luck in the contests. It takes courage to step onto the stage to pit your skills against your peers. Many of us who have competed know that our judges will choose the best contestants on the day.

Everything is in place so let’s all look forward to a fantasc show that will keep us all entertained as we grow through the experience.
