Christopher Hinson and Seeks Votes Candidate Sheriff's Department Charge Several With Drug Possession Deputies with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's De- partment have charged Christina R. Robinson and An- thony T. Bates, both of Dyersburg, with possession of a controlled substance with intent, after receiving informa- tion from the Tipton County Sheriff's Department that the suspects were delivering methamphetamine into Lauder- dale County. Jackie L. King, of Ripley, alledgedly made the phone call to Bates to set up delivery. They were ar- rested May 17th at the roadside park in Henning with 12 small bags of a white substance that later field tested to be methamphetamine, and two straws. Robinson stated that she lived in Dyer County and granted permission to search her home, where deputies found items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. King was charged with criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony. Charges against Scarlet R. Scallions, of Alamo, were filed May 31st after she confessed to taking four hydro- codone tablets, valued at $10, from a person under Scar- let’s care. She was charged with theft of property under $500 and possession of schedule II. Jeremy Andrew Jones, 37, of Ripley, was charged with possession of schedule II with intent to sell or deliver, re- sisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia, May 24th after deputies searched a residence on Old Browns- ville Rd., after a complaint about possible drug activity. After speaking with the suspect, he was searched and of- ficers found a straw filled with residue. Jones tossed the straw to the ground and attempted to hide a box taken from his other pocket. The object contained powder that field tested for meth. Norman Appointed To City Utility Board During the monthly meeting of the City of Ripley Mayor and Board of Aldermen Monday night, Burnie Norman was re-appointed to the utility board for the Ripley Gas, Water, and Wastewater for another term, to expire in July 2013. A bid was granted to repair the roof on the UT Martin Ripley Center and Family Fitness Center in Ripley, and permission was granted to advertise for rock, sand, gravel, and concrete, blacktop, police car repair, and hourly and daily rates for large construction, equip- ment, and labor. Aldermen discussed the matter of Fire Chief Felix Moore with the investiga- tion ongoing. They also discussed obtaining a full reimburse- ment of expenses incurred during a POST training from an officer that did not finish the class. Officer Honored MICHAEL BURSEY has announced his inten- tion to seek re-election as mayor for the Town of Henning. He issued the following statement. "We have worked hard the past four years to ac- complish the much need- ed improvements for the Town of Henning. We have a new city hall, im- provements to the Palmer Turner Center, and more security for the residents. "I have worked with our board to ensure that the funds are properly spent and that our resi- dents are represented at all levels of government, not just locally, but at the county and state levels. "We still have much more to accomplish and our residents do not need a change in leadership. Why start over, when we have just begun. I need your help in finishing the necessary steps to im- prove our town. My ads over the past few months have detailed what we have accomplished. "If we are to continue and strive to improve, then I sincerely seek your vote June 6th. Thank you," said Michael. Residents Arrested In Tipton County Jeremy Booker, 35, of Halls, and Lavale Win- frey, 35, of Ripley, were arrested in Tipton County over the Memorial Day weekend, May 24th – May 26th, by the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Di- vision, which conducted daily traffic enforcement operations in conjunction with the Governor’s High- way Safety Office “Click It or Ticket” campaign and “Hands Across the Border” campaign. Booker was charged with driving on suspended license, financial respon- sibility violation, light law violation, and violation of registration Winfrey was charged with driving on suspended license, light law violation, and seatbelt violation. The detail included roll- ing saturations and check points throughout the tar- get areas in Tipton County, Honored EDDIE EVANS, long-time Ripley resident and mem- ber of the Lauderdale County Library Trustees and Friends of the Library board, was honored for his many contributions to the library. After his retirement from 20 years at the Ripley Post Office, he has volunteered at the library at least one day a week for nearly 20 years. He served in the mili- tary from 1943 to 1946. With the rank of first lieu- tenant, he was a flight in- structor, training pilots to fly B-24s. A long-time member of Ripley's First United Methodist Church, Mr. Evans was a member of the church's Men's Come- back Class. The class was named in hopes that those in the class, going to serve our country in World War II, would "come back" safely from the war. Eddie and his late wife, Sue, have two children, Susan Evans Dunn and Bill Evans. JOE PURSELL, Lauderdale County Juvenile Court of- ficer, was honored with a retirement reception Friday, May 31st at the Lauderdale County Courthouse. He has served 35 years in law enforcement. His official last day will be Friday, June 7th. Officers Respond To Tuesday’s Break-In Officers with the Ripley Police Department were called to Ripley’s Quick Stop #2, former Phillips 66, on Highway 51 N., early Tuesday morning after vandals broke in and destroyed the ATM ma- chine and the registers. Anyone with informa- tion is asked to call 635- 1515. MARVIN MONTGOMERY has announced his intention to seek re-election as alder- man for the Town of Hen- ning. He issued the follow- ing statement. "First of all, I thank God for what He allowed me to accomplish in my life. Secondly, I thank my par- ents who instilled the guid- ing principles that shaped the character of the person I could become. Finally, I thank the citizens of Hen- ning for electing me to serve as alderman the past four years.
