Servant Sunday - Thank you to everyone who took time out of their Sunday schedule to support out Servant Sunday activities! Through your loving hearts and serving hands we collected 16 pints of blood, stuffed over 68 hygiene kits, created over 50 Valentine cards, washed over 50 loads of laundry, served lunch to over a hundred people at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and brightened the day of the residents of the Marquis Plaza Nursing Home. So much can happen in a second. In a sec-ond, you can burp, blink, wink, sneeze, or giggle.

The birth of an idea or the flash of a smile only take a second, but the results can endure for a lifetime.

In a second, someone can move from sick-ness to health or from death to life. It only takes a second for a crippling accident to change the rest of a life. In a second, one can have a heart attack or be struck by lightning.

A single second can turn someone from despair to hope. One more second can win a game or secure a championship. In a second, you can inherit great wealth or lose your life savings. You can gain citizenship, become adopted, get en-gaged, or find a great parking place.

The importance of an event cannot be measured by the length of time it takes to occur.

In a brief lifetime, Jesus gained blessings for us that endure for eternity. Thirty-three years of life on earth, six hours on a cross, three days in a grave all peaked in a “split second” when He rose from the dead.

Without that second of res-urrection, Jesus might as well have not been born. That one second made an eternal difference to the world. Escaping the grasp of death, reclaiming life, Jesus opened the door to heaven for all who be-lieve in Him.

Jesus’ resurrection stands as the one most important second in the history of the world. In it, He moved us from death to life, sin to forgiveness, and despair to hope.

Lord, thank You for taking time to save me from sin and to give me hope in You. Amen.

God bless you! See you in worship this weekend!

Okay, football season is over and I hope some of you are gonna be happy with the results of the Su-per Bowl. Of course, the Rams were not there so I have nothing more to say about it… But, let me ask,

have you ever been on a winning team? Have you ever won by a large number of points? How’d you feel? It’s one thing to win a contest by a nar-row margin. It’s quite another to win by over-whelming your opponents in a game. Winning is fun, but winning by a wide margin is more fun. It says that we were really better, superi-or, magnificent… You know, God has promised us the greatest victory we’ll ever know in life. It

Pastor Mose Henney

Mose’s Meanderings doesn’t come by outclassing our opponents in a game. It comes through Christ, who loved us enough to die for us. His ultimate victory was the victory over death and sin. The world at that time thought they had turned Christ into a loser. His life seemed to end abruptly in a defeat. Even His own disciples had worked and hoped for a different ending. When it seemed to all that death had won the final victory over life, God’s power turned it all around on a Resurrection morning almost two thousand years ago. The overwhelming victory that was the Resurrection then, is our victory in living today. The promise remains the same. So, as we go through this season of Lent, a season of reflection and discernment, don’t let your spirits be dismayed. Our “super bowl Sun-day” is on the horizon and God is promising us a HUGE victory! Amen. Pastor Mose

Our next informal gathering of our Grief Share and Support Group will be held in the Pastors office on Wednesday February 3rd at 1:30pm. Our aim is to get people together to talk, pray together and share emotions to assist in the grieving process. Nobody grieves the same way and it is an important process for all who are grieving to share the sorrow, and offer comfort to each other, both personally and spiritually. "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope." 1 Thessalonians 4:13

WORLD MISSIONS Witness, Mercy, Life Together www.lcms.org

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

Rev. Duane and Elizabeth Meissner Serving the Lord in Belize Rev. Duane and Elizabeth Meissner serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as career missionaries in Belize. In this role, Duane’s unique and exciting objective is to plant the very first Lutheran churches in that country! He also works to support LCMS human care and mercy projects in the country. Duane was born and raised in central Texas, attending church and school at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Austin, and living on his parent’s small farm in Hutto. He received a bachelor’s degree in church music from Concordia University Texas, Austin, and his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Before serving in Belize, Duane was blessed to serve as the senior pastor of Im-manuel Lutheran Church, Barnhart, Mo. His hobbies include nature hikes, writing and playing/singing pre-classical music. Elizabeth was born and initially raised in Oakmont, Pa., but she moved with her family to San Antonio, Texas, when she was young. She attended Concor-dia University Texas, Austin, where she met Duane, and received a bachelor’s degree in business ad-ministration/ management. Prior to becoming a missionary, Elizabeth worked in transportation logistics

for a company in St. Louis and volunteered at St. Lou-is Crisis Nursery. In her free time, she enjoys photog-raphy, gardening and reading. Duane and Elizabeth have been married since 2004 and have three chil-dren - Marcie, Maverick and Ayana - who are excited to join them on the mission field. Pray for the Meiss-ners as they serve in Belize. Pray for safety and sus-tenance as they travel around the United States for their pre-deployment support-raising efforts. Please pray that the support they need is received. Ask God to give them strength as they make their many transi-tions. Pray the hearts and minds of the Belizean peo-ple are prepared to receive God’s Word. We give thanks to God that Duane, Elizabeth and their children are serving His children in Belize. A Loving Family What do you get when you talk, laugh, and spend meaningful time with your child? A strong family con-nection that makes him more resilient and confident at home and in school. Consider these tips: Communication creates connections. Taking the time now to chat, giggle, and dream together paves the way for better communication when your young-ster is older. Try Saturday morning snuggle sessions, or go for a walk and talk after dinner each night. The topics are less important than the time you spend talk-ing and listening. Your child will learn that his thoughts and opinions matter to you. Traditions strengthen relationships. Start rituals

that feel natural for your family. One family might have a weekly craft night, while another may eat breakfast for dinner once a month. When you hit upon something that works, plan to do it again. Repeat it on a regular basis and— presto!—a new tradition is born that gives your youngster a sense of family. Moments make memories. When hectic schedules leave you short on time, use small everyday moments to show your child you love him. That impromptu game of sock basketball while sorting laundry or the “serious” discussion about superheroes while shampooing his hair give you a chance to interact with each other beyond the chores. Plus, you’ll create happy memories that make your youngster feel special and included.♥

On Wednesday, January 27, the school had

a special baptism chapel. Children and

adults were baptized and welcomed into the

family of God. It was an exciting moment to

celebrate.

The Board met on January 19, 2016, the next meeting will be held February 16, 2016. Total enrollment stands at 1676 students, well above budgeted numbers. On January 6, the new FLHS courtroom was used by the Nevada Court of Appeals to hear two murder cases. This was a great opportunity for the school and the judges and attorneys stayed an addi-tional 45 minutes for Q&A with our Justice and Ad-vocacy students. On January 7, 2016, 9 students were bap-tized. I spent the day with High School Handbells for “Twelfth Night” on Saturday January 9, 2016. This has been an annual event that recently started up again. Over 90 bell ringers took part from Califor-nia and Northern Nevada. The FLHS bell ringers were the youngest in the group but as always were well received. Our students never cease to amaze me of their talents!! The High School play “Big Fish Production” is scheduled for January 22-24 and 29-31, 2016. The Faith Thrift Store is looking for Dona-tions and would like you all to remember they have really good items on sale. They are located on Rainbow between Sahara and Oakey. The SB 302 has been temporarily halted as a judge issued an injunction. Faith is registered as a Participating Entity in the Nevada Education Savings Account program. Eligible families were expected to begin receiving money in February. The vacating of Homestretch road continues in January. Vacating Homestretch between the main campus and vacant acreage was presented to the Clark County Commissioners on January 20, 2016. The subdivision residents surrounding the school had various concerns and complaints with vacating or relocating Homestretch. In the end, Commissioners unanimously voted to vacate with requirements to provide bicycle/handicap/emergency access from Sandstone to Hualapai. Once plans are drawn for the new campus layout, they need to be approved by public hearing with the Commissioners. Sheryl Pfeuffer Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School Representative

THE STORIED LIFE OF

A.J. FIKRY By Gabrielle Zevin

Without much of a background, we enter the storied life of A.J. Fikry, shortly after he lost his wife in a car accident, leaving him a 35-year old lonely, broken and grumpy man. His only lease on life was the bookstore he and his late wife had

purchased on the small touristy island off the coast of Massachusetts – Alice Island. Fikry had almost suc-cumbed to becoming a recluse, hiding behind the many books in his small store, with his only outside contacts being the book publishers who afforded him his liveli-hood. Unbeknownst to him, A.J.’s life would suddenly lead to new “discoveries” inside his bookstore, taking him down a pathway unimagined and open the door to life-changing events – events making him a father, a hus-band again and a team player, organizing the first book club on sleepy Alice Island. Reading this story about books and book clubs will al-low one to come into the fascinating world of readers who become members of book clubs. Your life might become as enriched as the one of our protagonist, A.J. Fikry. We invite you to look into the world of the “Bookworms” and enjoy the excitement we share each month. We welcome you to come and join the Bookworms where we meet every second Saturday of the month at 9:00AM in Fellowship Hall 2.

Our book Review for the month of February is “Orphan #8” by Kim van Alkemade. Our February meeting will be on Saturday 13th.

When: April 23, 2016

In the Word Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

Shall trouble or hardship ... No, in all these things

we are more than conquerors through him who

loved us. Romans 8:35a, 37

Of the Word After years of struggle and suffering, my husband's debilitating illness was finally

named. It was bipolar disorder, commonly known as manic depression. We learned that the ailment is genetic, hereditary, and

permanent. There are medications and treatments, but no cure. We had to learn

to live with it. With the diagnosis came other questions: Christians don't have mental illness, do they? What will our friends and family

think? Why did God allow this to happen? Who should we tell?

We decided to be honest and open, to share the good days and the bad. We de-cided that God can use us to help others

face the pain and uncertainty of living with brain disorders. We accepted the fact that

the disease is a permanent part of our lives, but so is a loving God, who will help

us conquer our fear. "Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be

afraid" (John 14:27b).

Walking with My Lord Lord, thank You for always being with me. Nothing can keep me from Your love. You share each moment of my life, the good and the bad, the joyful and the tearful.

Thank You that You love me and can use me just as I am. Take me, wrap me in the righteousness of Jesus Christ and send

me out to show the world that God is love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Lord Jesus, light my life with the light of Your Word and the brightness of faith in

You. Amen.

“Secret Agent”

A Poem by Mary Gale Was Joseph God’s secret agent? Called by Him to sit and wait. Called to see Jesus crucified, Crucified by sin and hate. He watched as Roman soldiers Came with mallets in their hands. Came to break the legs of Jesus. Came to take His life from Him. He watched as with swords drawn The soldiers pierced that glorious side. A witness to all the world That Jesus Christ had truly died. They thought they took His life from Him. The earth shook, the sky grew dim. “It is finished.” the savior cried. He gave up His life, for us, He died. Was Joseph God’s secret agent? Called to wait, but to prepare To seek out that villain Pilate And have Christ’s body placed in his care. And now as Mary comes to bring Spices to prepare our King. Joseph obeyed God’s word and command Place the body in a tomb unused by man. Joseph no longer a secret agent Became a man both bold and brave. At last he knew his precious Jesus Died and lived; mankind to save. Lord, let me not be a secret agent. Brave and bold I want to be. Bringing Jesus to all nations By His light that shines in me.

Hello. I am the scribe for troop 340. In January, we had some good times. The first week, we came back together to meet. That day we fo-cused mostly on knots and why they are im-portant for scouting. The next week, in antici-pation for Mountain Man, we had those who needed their Totin’ chip or Firem’n chit, and worked to get it. The Totin chip is a card that gives scouts the right to have a knife on their person at a scouting event. The Firem’n chit gives the scout the ability to operate a camp-fire during scout activities. Those who needed their Totin’ chip got it, but the Firem’n chit needed more time. Coming up in February is one of our scout's birthday. His name is William and will be 14 on Feb. 3. We will also have position elections on the 11. Right before that, we will be going to Mountain Man. Most of the scouts enjoy that. That's all for now. Josh Anderson

Before you answer, think about this: If you were ever accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? This four week plus study will challenge you to examine what you know to be true, and then live out your faith by sharing the life-changing message of the cross with others who may not be-lieve. Yet. Women’s Bible Study

This Bible study is for women who want to make a difference! Through the “This Means Love Bible Study”, we discover what the Bible says about loving our neighbor as we study the original love chapter, 1 Corin-thians 13. This lays the foundation for a fun and focused time of serving as we engage in small service projects that show God’s love to others in our community. We contin-ue our study on Monday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m. at the Karch’s home. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday. All women are invited to attend. Please contact Bonnie Karch (702-743-3258) or Trish Spatharos (702-645-4998) for further information. Future Dates are: February 8 and 22 March 14 and 28 April 11 and 25 May 9 an 23
