The Knightly News
Knights of Columbus - Elizabeth Ann Seton Council #10169
October 2009
Dear Brothers:
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. God continues to bless us and we pray that He
continue to guide us in our principals of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
CHARITY Jim Baker, our Deputy Grand Knight and Chairman of our
Tootsie Roll Fundraiser for those with Developmental Disabilities
recently presented a check to Shirley Balogh, the President and
CEO of Alliance for Independence (AFI). The check was the sum
of our collections from our annual Tootsie Roll drive. We are
proud of being able to help such a fine organization as AFI, who
offers individuals with disabilities the avenues to explore and
experience personal growth and achievement through
awareness, education, community resources and personal
relationships. We thank Jim Baker for his leadership in organizing
and conducting this effort as well as all of our brothers who
helped. Please follow this link for more info on Alliance for Independence: http://www.afi-fl.org
UNITY We conducted our district Soccer Challenge on October 7
th at Resurrection Catholic School with the eight
winners from our council competition going against the winners from St. Joseph’s council 2505. We offer our
congratulations to six of our eight that earned the right to proceed to the regional competition. It will be held on
November 7th
in Tarpon Springs. We thank Nancy Genzel, principal of RCS and Barb Fuchs, the athletic director,
for their support. We also thank Ray Chmieleski, our district deputy, and Steve Jones, Grand Knight of 2505, for
their help in conducting this event. We will present awards to the district winners at RCS after the 9:00 am mass
on November 13th
. Please go to our website www.kofc10169.org for the list of winners, more photos, and
additional information.
On October 11th
, our Resurrection parish held its Festival of Fellowship.
It was a wonderful event that brought all of ministries together to
share them with our parish. We had a good amount of interest at our
KofC table as well as our sponsored ministries of the Cub Scouts/Boy
Scouts and the Chalice Vocations Prayer Program on either side of us. I
would like to thank Jimmy Shipton, Dylan Shipton, Dan Lee, Mark
Adams, Al Wendel, and Jim Spindler for their help in cooking and
serving the food for the parish as well as Keith McDonald for manning
the Chalice Vocations Table.
FRATERNITY
It is with both sadness and great hope that I must announce to those who have not
heard, that our brother George McCurdy has taken a job position in St. Augustine.
The sadness comes from a brother that is moving from Lakeland who has served
his parish and council so well for so many years. I can’t even start to name all of the
ways George has helped us, but suffice it to say that he will be missed in all of our
council’s endeavors. The hope comes from the fact that he will remain in our
council as well as we all hope that he does well in his new position. May God be
with you George and thanks for all you have done for us.
PATRIOTISM Wednesday, November 11
th is Veteran’s day. Please see the Fourth Degree
News section for information on how we will be placing flags on the graves of
our veterans to honor them for their unselfish duty for our great country. If
you can help with this, please do. If not, please display your US flag on this day
proudly and pray for all of our veterans.
