Kevin Bailey, Joint First Team Manager

Last Saturday was a great performance from the lads and we managed to get our first 3 points since joining the club. We were missing several key players through work, holiday, illness and injury, but those who played were superb. After taking the lead but were pegged back at the end of the first half and then went behind just after the break. After falling apart the previous week against Staines it would have been easy for the same to happen again! Instead we showed great character by not letting our heads drop and hitting back straight away. We then pushed on, took the lead for the second time and completed the win with a fourth goal.

Michael Pym (3) and Charlie Postance (1) stood out on the day and worked together very well. What really impressed me about the team on Saturday was their desire and will to win and that is something that I hope we can keep within the squad and develop. With the first league win in the bag we now look on to future games and concentrate on picking up more points in the coming weeks. Our next 4 league games are all against clubs with similar league positions to us. This adds a little more importance to each of the games as they become the clichéd 6 pointers. A few more victories will give us a great boost and will enable us to climb the league and pull away from the lower reaches of the league. That is obviously our current aim. Tonight we take the confidence we gained from the weekend’s victory into a cup game against in-form Mole Valley. Winning can become a habit and it’s something that we want to instil into our players. Another good performance tonight will breed more confidence and will help us build on what we have already achieved during our short reign at the club.

GU21 News around the ground

Theknappers

Good evening and welcome to everyone for this re-arranged Premier Challenge Cup 2nd round tie between Knaphill and Mole Valley SCR. Unfortunately this match, originally scheduled for last Tuesday, had to be switched to our opponents ground due to Knaphill unable to use their floodlights on the night. The two clubs have already met this season when in a League fixture Mole Valley gained maximum points in the 1-0 win back at the end of August. Better news on the home front at Redding Way when last Saturday Knaphill chalked up their first success at Redding Way in the League this season with a 4-2 win over Worcester Park. Despite being below strength, the team bounced from the previous Saturday’s defeat by Staines Lammas to gain a well deserved victory and three points which moved them out of the bottom three in Division One. Knaphill took the lead through Michael Pym on 34 minutes, only for the visitors to level matters just before halftime. It was Park who took a very brief lead in the 51st minute as Knaphill’s swift reaction just a minute later, saw Pym equalise to make it 2-2. Knaphill forged ahead on the hour through Charlie Postance, before Michael Pym sealed all three points and his hat trick after 70 minutes. It was not a good day for Knaphill Reserves however in their trip away to Warlingham Reserves. Not helped by a major accident on the Motorway, which caused the team a massive delay in getting to the ground, not arriving until 3.30pm. But the afternoon got worse for the Reserves as poor decision making, contributed to their downfall in the 4-2 defeat. Knaphill’s goalscorers were

Michael Pym receiving his Man of the Match Award from Treasurer and Life Vice President John Wood.

Jay Coombes with a penalty, and Ryan Pilley. This Saturday the Reserves are at home to Raynes Park Vale Reserves. Success for Knaphill U18s last Wednesday when

they went top of their Division in the Southern

Youth League with Mekhall McLaughlin scoring

the only goal of the game on 79 minutes for a 1-0

win to install them as new league leaders. The

U18s are away at Fleet Spurs this Thursday as

they seek to enhance on their top spot.

Knaphill Ladies were in action on Sunday at Redding Way in the Womens FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifier. Despite drawing level just after half time, the ladies eventually lost 4-1 to Eastbourne Town although the scoreline did flatter our visitors. Knaphill Ladies were due to play Guildford Saints but Saints were unable to raise a team so we progress to the next round of the league cup. Back on the first team front, and this Saturday 20th October, brings a local derby encounter away to Sheerwater when Knaphill will be looking for back to back wins following last weekend’s success against Worcester Park. Then next Tuesday 23rd October, it’s another switch with our Cup matches, this time for the Southern Combination Cup against Cove, the game to be played at the Premier Division Club’s Oak Farm Fields ground in Squirrel Lane, Cove. Kick-off is 7.45pm. Our next League game is on Saturday 27th October when Staines Lammas visit Redding Way kick off 3pm. Enjoy tonight’s game and have a safe journey home…

Introducing

MOLE VALLEY SCR fc

Theknappers

Chairman and Life President Alan Salmon founded SCR F.C in 1978, when the club began life as INRAD FC, based in Carshalton. The club entered a new era when Alan moved to Sutton and arranged sponsorship with his new neighbour, CENTRE 21 FC was born. This era saw the club running one Saturday side, three Sunday sides and three Youth sides. Centre 21's sponsorship continued until the club's youth players were no longer under 21 years old. The club again sought new a identity, SUTTON COMMON ROAD FC was formed and subsequently abbreviated to SCR FC. Since then the club has had five major sponsors whose names have been incorporated into the clubs affiliated name: SCR PLOUGH (twice), SCR GRAPES, next the club's longest sponsor SCR LITTEN TREE (7 years) & finally SCR Kingfisher, Ewell with whom we started our venture in Saturday football in 2004/05 until the then landlord Andy Coxs' departure. It was at this point that the club took the decision to revert back to using the SCR name alone, feeling that as they strove for continued promotion they needed to disassociate ourselves with the pub team image. That said the club did take sponsorship form the Fox & Hounds public house in Carshalton for the Sat first team in 2006/07, but the decision was made that the pub name would not be incorporated into the affiliated name, for the above reason. The club entered yet another new era for the season 07/08, with the introduction of a third Saturday side co run by Alex Avis & Tony Williams and the 1st team moved to the Middlesex County FL (and a name change SUTTON COMMON ROVERS) in the pursuit of combined Counties football, having made an unsuccessful application from the Surrey South Eastern Combination at the end of season 2006/07 having finished joint top (3rd on goal difference by 1 goal). Harry Barrett continued to run the 1st Surrey South Eastern Combination side until Feb 2008 when several personal factors meant unfortunately he had to step down. This paved the way for John Waddingham & Ben Jeffcoate to take the reigns as caretaker managers. During this shake up several additional changes took place in 2007/8 season, Alex moved in a new temporary role as 1st team assistant and within the team Sunday management the arrival of the youngest of the Salmons, Justin taking over jointly the 1st team with Dave Newbury. Stephen Snowdon & Alan Reed continued for the 4th season at the helm of the Sunday 2nd team. A third place finish in the Middlesex County League Premier division in 07/08 meant that the clubs promotion to the CCL was not assured but months of hard work & determination from the management team SCR eventually secured a place within the league constitution for the clubs 1st time in their 30 year history at the league AGM in June 2008.

Page 11: THE KNAPPERSfiles.pitchero.com/clubs/690/MoleValleySCR16thOctober... · 2012-10-17 · OFFICIAL KNAPHILL FOOTBALL CLUB MATCHDAY PROGRAMME SEASON 2012-2013 THE KNAPPERS CLUB SPONSOR

The club also took the decision to take their reserve team into the CCL. Taking a place within the leagues Reserve Division under the joint guidance of Justin Salmon & Alex Avis, Alex has since elected to concentrate on playing and now been replaced by Simon Pike. Darren Salmon remains at the helm of the 1st with new additions Peter Hayne as assistant & Ken Bremner as club playing coach and the returning Gary Brigden as goalkeeping coach. 2008 also saw the latest name change of the club, this time with the inclusion of 'Mole Valley' to form the new name Mole Valley SCR F.C. reflecting the area in which they played. In 2009 the club was forced to yet another move from its shared ground in Mole Valley to its continuing tenancy at Cobham FC. The 2009/10 season saw the club win the Combined Counties League Division 1 and earn promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the clubs history. The season also saw the side make its FA Vase debut, when winning 2-1 at Guildford City (although the side lost 1-0 at home to Beckenham Town the next round). The club also featured in its first ever county cup final, narrowly losing the Surrey Premier Cup Final to Sutton Utd Reserves 5-3 on penalties, after the match had finished 1-1 after extra time. 2010/11 again saw the club compete in the Combined Counties Premier Division, and make their debuts in both the FA Cup (a disappointing 5-0 loss to Chertsey Town) and in the Surrey Senior Cup (a 4-1 defeat against Egham Town) and another disappointing cup loss came in the FA Vase against Banstead Athletic (3-2). On the league front the season was a success with the side consolidating in an excellent 8th spot, in their first season in the Premier Division, and reaching the semi final of the EL Records Premier Challenge Cup - where they turned in one of their worst performance of the season en route to a 2-1 extra time defeat against Wembley. The reserves under James Cameron sealed a memorable season with a cup and league double. 2011/12, to date far and away the most disappointing season in our short Saturday Senior foot-ball history. The 1’s lost the sum total of 18 players and despite a frantic rebuilt, lost the first 14 competitive games of the season before a creditable run in the dying months was not sufficient to avoid the drop back to Division One and the reserves playing in the Suburban league finished below half way in the table but respectfully so given the step up in class under the joint guidance of Eric Howard and Luke Tuffs, both previously of Cove FC. Season 2012/13... Decent pre-season and yet another re-build of squad as well as restructure of the teams.. 17 colts sides, reserves in the Surrey Elite, Vets in Morden & District and 1st team CCL Division One... Another chapter in our short book to be written...

The latest news from the Combined Counties League...

Lee Cope

"Midweek Reflections" In what has been a reasonably quiet week football wise as always we welcome you to "That Was The week" our very own scribe of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League & A Little Bit More. Events within were due to commence on Monday evening at Knaphill for a First Round Grant-McLellan Youth Cup First Round tie. Sadly though, the match was postponed following the heavy rains. Despite this four games did get played Tuesday evening though and so I commence my brief round-up with news that Eversley & California bowed out of the Hampshire Senior Cup following a 1-0 reversal against Fleet Spurs. Sandhurst Town were involved in similar activity as they welcomed Aylesbury United to the 'Bottom Meadow', this fixture being a Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy Second Round encounter. There was no shortage of goals in this pulsating tie which was eventually won by the visitors 6-3. I am advised the visitors took a two goal advantage and then had to come from 3-2 down, all in all though a highly entertaining encounter but it was not the 'Fizzers' night and out they crashed. Over at Bedfont Sports now for the El Records Premier Challenge Cup Second Round tie where the 'Eagles' welcomed Epsom & Ewell in the knowledge that the victors would face Guernsey at home in the next round and a no doubt healthy attendance. Mark Jarman gave the visitors a ninth minute lead which they then doubled in first half stoppage time courtesy of Robbie Burns. Jarman then doubled his tally for the evening five minutes from time to ensure their safe passage through, 3-0 final score. Rounding off Tuesday night activity we venture over to Youngs Drive where hosts Ash United welcomed Wembley for a Premier Division encounter which was eventually won at the death courtesy of a Kristian Hale effort in the 90th minute. Prior to this Daryl Atkins had given the visitors a 34th minute lead. Karl Dallaway squared the contest on 48 minutes making it all to play for right through to final whistle. With both sides finishing the contest with ten men, Kristian Hale turned out to be the hero for the visitors with his last gasp effort to secure the points for Wembley where many who were in attendance thought a point each fair enough but this was simply not the case as the scoreline suggests. It was confirmed on Wednesday that South Park will play Met Police at King George's Field this coming Saturday for the right to enter the F.A.Cup with Budweiser First Round Proper, having secured the right to play "Park' following their 2-0 victory against Dereham Town in their replay over at Imber Court.

“Saturday Scene” Saturday was F.A.Vase First Round Proper day for many of our clubs which gave several teams in our league a short break from league activity and in other cases an opportunity to pick their wits against sides from other Leagues. To start this brief round-up we pop over to Church Road where hosts Whyteleafe welcomed our very own Guernsey. When it was confirmed that the 'Green Lions' had been accepted into the competition this season many within media circles felt that with their highly enteraining style of football Guernsey could do very well in the competition. The game at Church Road was well supported and Dom Heaume got the visitors on the way after thirteen minutes and the lead was then then doubled two minutes later courtesy of Ross Allen. All was looking good for our boys and Allen doubled his tally for the afternoon five minutes before the interval. Going into the half-time break Guernsey were certainly well in control but after a tactical change for the second half Whyteleafe huffed and puffed and eventually on 81 minutes pulled a goal back, courtesy of substitute Palmer. Seven minutes later Sam Cochrane turned the ball into his own net to peg the score back to 3-2 but that was how it stayed and Guernsey were in the next round. Farleigh produced a good 4-1 victory over their near neighbours Warlingham whilst over at Spelthorne Sports, where I had the pleasure of spending my afternoon, visitors Staines Lammas romped through to the next round. 6-1 was the margin of victory. Matt Baxter bagged a hat-trick and there was a brace from Jim Butler and one from Ben Jacob, while for the hosts Lee Staples scored their only goal of the afternoon. League wise in Division One the new leaders are Westfield who needed just a solitary goal at Banstead Athletic to take the spoils whilst second placed South Kilburn drew 0-0 at Feltham and third placed Eversley & California were too good for visitors Epsom Athletic winning by seven goals to three. Mole Valley took the points at bottom club C.B.Hounslow, 2-1 this one ended up and Knaphill were 4-2 home winners over visitors Worcester Park and finally Division One wise Sheerwater and Cobham drew 1-1. Folks that about wraps up activity over the last week so looking ahead now to next Saturday when South Park will fly our flag in the F.A.Cup with Budweiser in their tie at home to Met Police.

We’ve got youth on our side with Nick Croshaw – Youth Team Secretary

Knaphill Climb To The Top Of The Table Cove U18 - 0 Knaphill U18 - 1 Just fourteen days after The Knappers terrific 5-1 win in the 1st round of the Southern Youth League Challenge Cup and Knaphill return to Oak Farm to face Cove in the League. With a number of senior players due to have played in the postponed Grant-McLellan Cup tie against Windsor on Monday, the make up of side was very different to the side that played Cove two weeks previously.

Manager Gary Taylor gave the opportunity to a number of the 1st year players to go and make an impression. Matt Willard took over the gloves for the third time this year with an impressive unbeaten record to maintain,Nathan Leonard was at right-back, Kabir Odekunle took the left back role in the back three, while Josh Dawber was pushed up into a wide left position. Mekhail McLaughlin returned from injury to lead the line with Stevie Kemp and regular keeper Craig Taylor performed the midfield holding role. The first action of the half saw a Cove player take a full-bloodied drive from Craig Taylor in the face and he has to temporarily retire with a blood injury. Mekhail was quickly in the action but after getting round the Cove keeper couldn’t get his shot away before the ball was cleared. Craig Taylor wasted two free-kicks, one straight at the keeper and the second a minute later, wide of the post. Cove started to get back into the game andMatt Willard pulled off a stunning double save as the home side continued to pressure the Knaphill goal.

On the half hour Matt again proved his talent as a rasping Cove free-kick was tipped over the bar. Knaphill then dominated the last 10 minutes as Josh Dawber and Craig Taylor has shots block and wide respectively. Pushing forward Nathan Leonard put through Mekhail who again failed to get past the keeper who bravely dived at the attackers feet. The last action of the half saw hard-working Jonny Coats fire straight at the keeper. HT 0-0.

The second half started with Ben Landi and Niall McInerney both going close, it was Cove who started more positively with Matt once again holding his nerve to palm away and caught the ever increasing number of shots coming from the home side. With 15 minutes gone, Ben Landi came off for Scott James who was making his first appearance since the Cranleigh game. Knaphill continued to apply pressure with Mekhail shooting just wide and Niall heading over from a corner. With 22 minutes gone the last throw of the dice was made to try and break the deadlock asKallum Parker-Andrew and Louis Herbert came on for Kabir and Craig. It was however Cove who gifted Knaphill the advantage when one of their players was sent of for two yellow cards and an unsavoury incident occurred as he left the pitch which result in Manager Gary Taylor doubled up in pain as the dismissed player kicked the ball at football at him as he was leaving the pitch. Apologies were later given and accepted before the Knappers left for home.

Down to 10 men for the second successive game against Knaphill was not ideal for Cove and Mikhail quickly took advantage on 79 minutes as he sprinted through the static Cove defence, after good work from Scott Kames and Jonny Coats, to put the ball into the far corner of the goal for what was to be the winning goal, 1-0. The final 10 minutes saw the Knappers comfortably hold onto their lead with Cove not looking as if they were going to score all night. With no other teams playing this week, the Knappers now ride proudly at the head of the League table. On the same night it was decided that The Knappers opponents in the Surrey County Cup would be Molesey after they beat Cranleigh 1-0 at Walton Road. The Knappers next take on Fleet Spurs in the league. KNAPHILL U18: Willard, Odekunle (Parker-Andrew), Leonard, McInerney, Abdali, Taylor (Herbert), Dawber, Coats (C), Kemp, McLaughlin, Landi (Scott).
