JANUARY 2018HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sheila and I hope one and all had a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Years. We look forward to serving the Chapter for another two years. That doesn’t mean we don’t need help. I am always looking for volunteers to host meetings. Currently, I am looking for an assistant secretary, anyone?

We had a wonderful Christmas meeting in Avon Park at the Jacaranda Hotel, hosted by Phil & Joette Devon. They did their usual fantastic job. If my count is correct, we had 61 in attendance. Don & Diane Augustin, Ralph Bailey & De, JD & Shirley Bath, Ginny Billingsley, Jimmy & Cretia Braddock, Ed Britt, Rod & Karen Burns, John & Peggy Bohl, Jack & Mariette Carey, Chuck & Susie Clayton, Russ Cummings, Phil & Joette Devon, Ray & Judy Drewry, John & Gayle Erskine, John & Ceil Ferreira, Robert Foster, John & Anna Fryer, Hal & Mary Fagan, David & Janie Hill, Robert & Janet Johansen, RL & CJ Johnson, Ken & Angie Kilmer, Robert & Sandy Lara, Joe & Lyndsay Hastings, Don & Judy Rice, Robert & Kathy Schlafke, David & Sue Soucie, Jimmie & Brenda Summerhill, Tom & Ann Tomlin, Brian & Natalie Vines, Richard & Sheila Whitman. Our very special guests for the evening were Cliff Newman and his lovely wife Karen from National and Nick Panarella from Chapter 88. Also, Bob Mulcahy and Larry Redmond made appearances in the hospitality room but could not stay for dinner. Also, two gentlemen came in off the street wanting to join the Chapter: James Rogers and David Cummings. I do not know at this time if their membership applications have been completed.

The highlight of the meeting was the swearing in of officers for the next two years. See the pictures. Nick Panarella did the honors again. Thank you Nick.

Ken & Angie Kilmer have volunteered to host the summer meeting in June. Sheila and I, with assistance from others, will host the September meeting in Cocoa Beach. JD & Shirley Bath have stepped up again and will host the Christmas meeting in Lakeland in December. I’ll let you know about the March meeting.

The convention in June 12-19 will be in El Paso, TX. It is now being held in the Wyndham Airport Hotel. The phone number is 915-778-4241 Ex 502.

One thing I forgot to bring up at the meeting (brain cramp) was to have Tom Tomlin regale us with his exploits and tell us how it felt to meet the Commander In Chief. Next time.

We finally had our Chapter XXI wine sale at the meeting. All funds raised go to fund the Education Grant the Chapter is setting up, thanks to Phil Devon. $690.00 was raised. I also sent Phil a check for $180.00 for wine that was sold at the December meeting of the GBTS get together at Cocoa Beach. There is still wine available, mostly Chardonnay. I will have it at our next meeting.

Health & Welfare

1. Betty Bass (widow of Bob (Sam) is doing great, her daughter Freida, reports. Betty now resides in an assisted living facility in Raleigh, NC., not far from Freida's home. She checks on Betty several times a day. Betty sends a Big Happy New Year to all.

2. Al and Toni Boman - Toni continues to improve on strength and walking (with this PT group.) Al had hernia surgery on 29 Dec. (day surgery) and is now recovering at home. Al said he has several more weeks of recovery before he will be able to assist Toni again. Hang in there Al. We are all pulling for you. They both send New Years Greetings to all.

3. Bob and Marianne Cherry - Marianne reports that Bob is doing much better. They increased the dosage on his last treatment, which left him very tired, but he seems to be bouncing back. They both send a Healthy, Happy New Year to All and Bob said they WILL see us at the next meeting.

4. Ingrid Currier (widow of Ed) Reports that she is doing well at this time. She has had a few medical issues but is now recovering from them. She said the workers are finally completing the repair/rebuild from hurricane Irma. Her property received extensive damage. Ingrid said she hopes to see us at the next meeting.

5. Ken Kilmer reports that he came down with a bad cold right after the last meeting. As soon as he recovered from that, he developed a very bad bladder infection. After some tough days, he is now recovering. Said that he would not wish this disease on any one.

6. George (Speedy) Gaspard - Suzi reports that Speedy is hanging in there, doing all of the different exercises and therapy (when Suzi is around to see that he does). With this type of break of the femur bone, the healing process is very slow, requiring a lot of therapy. Keep Chargin' Hard Speedy, you will be up and dancing before long. Suzi, again, we Thank You for watching over the old man for us.

7. Dave & Sue Soucie - Sue reports that Dave is doing well. He has a followup exam (the week of 8 Jan.) to see how much the tumor has shrunk (notice that Dave always has a positive attitude), and to find out if additional treatment will be required. Hang in there Dave, with your positive approach to this, it will turn out good. Sue is doing very well considering the constant care for Dave and assisting Barbara with her college applications. The GREAT NEWS, Barbara has been accepted to Emory College, Atlanta, GA for medical school. Outstanding Barbara, we are all very proud of you.

8. Mauri Price – Richard Whitman spoke with Scott Price, Mauri's son. He says Mauri is doing fine considering his age. Has his ups and downs but otherwise he is fine. He has a new phone # 321-704-3514
