COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT APPROVED
On June 8, 2018, the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) approved the Mediated Cooperative Plan between the Village and town of Jackson. The approval allowed for the immediate attachment of Paloroma Farms — a proposed single family residential subdivision west of Maple Road; and south of Sherman Parc and east of Twin Creeks subdi-visions in the town of Jackson — to become part of the Village. The annexation of another pro-posed eighteen unit condominium subdivision north of Cedar Creek Road was frozen by the DOA, even though the parcel was not within the scope of the cooperative agreement. Approval of that annexation has now been received from the DOA. The attachment of the other par-cels originally scheduled for January, 2015 will now occur in January,2021.

SECOND INSTALLMENT OF PROPERTY TAXES DUE
The second installment of 2017 postponed real estate taxes is due on or before July 31st, payable to the Washington County Treasurer and postmarked no later than July 31st. The ad-dress for the Washington County Treasurer is 432 East Washington Street, PO Box 1986, West Bend, WI 53095-7986.
POLICE DEPARTMENT MEDICATION COLLECTION BOX
Using the collection box located in the police department lobby is a convenient way to dis-pose of unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter non-liquid medications. It is important to keep as much of these materials as possible out of landfills and water treatment sys-tems. Drug abusers are known to steal narcot-ics, antidepressants, and medications from the homes of friends and relatives. The collected items are periodically incinerated at a licensed facility.

Great things are happening in the Village of Jackson!
Summer improvement projects are underway (and at least one already completed) on Ridgeway Drive, Highland Road, Rosewood Drive/TID #6, and Stonehedge Drive Storm Sewer projects. At a joint meeting on June 26th, the Village and Town Boards also reached an agreement for the repair and repaving of Cedar Creek Road to be completed yet this summer in conjunction with the repav-ing of County Trunk Highway P.
Many thanks for the seemingly tireless efforts of the Friends of Jackson Parks organization! Over the last year the organization worked with individuals and organizations to raise and contribute $100,000.00 for the purchase and installation of an inclusive playground to replace the aged and worn playground equipment at Hickory Park. This will be the first inclusive playground equipment in Washington County and a great addition for the Village of Jackson! Kudos to the Friends group and the great staff in our Parks and Recreation Department!
In addition to the funds raised by the Friends of Jackson Joint Parks and Recreation, the Village Board voted in June to allocate park impact fees and general fund finances in equal amounts to complete the funding of the $300,000.00 needed for the project. Final planning is underway for a fall 2018 installation, but the fundraising efforts will continue with fundraising events like the Beer Gardens.
Thanks also to the many people who helped make Action in Jackson a success again this year! The revised, two-day format was put in place because of the many scheduling conflicts with area High School graduations and the increasing difficulty of finding volunteers to work a three-day event. In addition to the car show and swap meet, the pancake breakfast, chainsaw carving, midway, music and food, an inaugural fireworks show, made possible by a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. John Kruepke, contributed to a make a great event. Thanks again to all who helped make the event a success!
As I was driving around Michigan and Wisconsin over the last few days touring and visiting relatives, I was reminded again and again what a great community the Village of Jackson is. Some of the things that came to mind are:
Great people who contribute to making the community as good as it can be . . . People who work to keep their homes and yards looking nice . . . a responsive and impartial police department that is both caring toward the hurting and firm toward the troublesome . . . mostly kind people . . . re-spectful kids . . . great business owners and managers . . . caring and hard-working village employ-ees . . . people who are willing to work hard to help their neighbors throughout the village . . . businesses who work hard to keep their commercial properties looking neat and attractive . . . great school teachers and staff . . . all the parents and leaders who serve as positive role models and encourage their own kids and others to be responsible and help out wherever and whenever they can.
To everyone who appreciates the Village of Jackson and makes it a great place for people of all ages to live, learn and work, Thank you! Mike Schwab, Village of Jackson President

Outdoor Grilling with Charcoal and Propane Be careful when lighting grills; Only use recommended charcoal lighter fluid; Never grill indoors. Keep grills from under eaves and away from buildings; Have a 3 ft. “Kids Safe Zone” around grill.
Fire Pits Metal manufactured type fire pits are preferred or fire pits built entirely of noncombustible materials (See Chapter 18 of the Village Code of Ordinances for more details.) No burning within 15 feet of any building or lot line. Fires should be under the constant supervision of an adult. Never use flammable liquids to start a fire; Always extinguish fire and cover fire pit when done.
Swimming Safety Never swim alone; Swim with a buddy; It’s more fun and much safer. Never leave young children unattended near the water. Young or inexperienced swimmers should wear a life jacket. Maintain supervision of your children while they are swimming. Secure your pool when not in use. If a child is missing, check the pool first; Seconds count.
If you have any questions on these fire safety tips, please contact us at 262-677-3811.
