Operation Good Jobs - HVAC Training Program.
This program has a rolling enrollment, so applicants can apply at any time. The screening process starts with Operation:
GoodJobs. We will administer the WOWI exam (mechanical aptitude and work related profile) as well as basic background and
driving check, and a drug screen. Once this process is complete the applicant will go over to be screened by HBTI, our partner in the
program. HBTI will administer a more comprehensive mechanical and math test. Once they have passed both screening processes
HBTI will line up 2-4 interviews with individual companies (we have 40+ that have signed on to be part of the program) for
interviews. Once an offer has been made, the trainee will become an employee of the specific company. They will, in partnership
with HBTI do the training of the individual. Within approximately 6 months the new employee will have all the required state
certifications required. The individual company will determine the starting wage, but all have agreed to be in the $12-15/hr
range. This is from day one, without any HVAC training. As the trainee gets more certification, the wages will go up. Within a
year, they should be in the $17-20 range, and after 2 years at about $25+ an hour. The companies will expect the trainee to agree to
stay with them for anywhere from 1-2 years to cover the cost of their training.
HBTI, HVAC Business and Technical Institute is located in the Kent Valley. Most of the companies that have signed on are non-
union shops and do primarily residential repairs and installations of new HVAC systems.
In order for interested individuals to get their applications going, they should attend one of our O: GJ Orientations, on Fridays.
