The Human Brain
The brain is part of the Central nervous system
The nervous system
• The nervous system is made of millions of neurons.
• A neuron is a nerve cell
• Axon is the cell body• Dendrites receive
incoming messages
The brain
• The brain is the control center for all incoming nerve impulses.
• The brain is broken into 3 parts.
• The cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla oblengota
Cerebrum
• The Cerebrum has 4 parts
• Frontal lobe• Parietal lobe• Occipital lobe• Temporal lobe
The Cerebrum
• Controls Consciousness high mental processing and voluntary movements
• All four parts control different features of the brain.
• Left brain is for speech and language• Right Brain is for spatial relationships,
music, art and emotions
Cerebellum
• The cerebellum is the ball shaped organ at the cerebrum base.
• It is responsible for balance and complex muscle movements
Brain Stem
• The medulla is also called the brain stem.
• Responsibilities include: Breathing, swallowing, digestion, and actions of the heart and blood vessels.
• Here is where all of the nerves of the spinal cord connect to the brain
Brain Jobs
• Frontal Lobe•Judging•Planning•Skeletal
Muscle Control
Brain Jobs
• Medulla Oblongata• Heart rate• Sneezing• Breathing• Vomiting• Coughing• Swallowing• Hiccupping
Brain Jobs
• Temporal Lobe• Music Memory• Hearing• Smelling
Brain Jobs
• Parietal Lobe•Skin Sensitivity•Understanding Speech
Occipital Lobe
Sight
Brain Jobs
• Cerebellum•Posture•Muscle Tone•Physical Balance•Coordinates Motion
Brain Jobs
• Hypothalamus•Thirst•Sleep•Body Temp•Controls Pituitary•Hunger•Water Balance•Metabolism
