Bailey Funkhouser ThrowsPerfect Game To Lead Hilltop

Over Fayette In BBC Softball PlayWEST UNITY: April 10, 2014 – There

are several ways that a pitcher’s outing can be described, the least common of which is ‘perfect’. To reach that level, a pitcher must not allow an opposing bat-ter to reach base, meaning that the field-ers must play error-free ball. That rarest of rare performances was turned in by Bai-ley Funkhouser on April 10, as she led the Hilltop Lady Cadets to a 20-0 five-inning win over the Fayette Lady Eagles.

Funkhouser was perfect on the day, facing the minimum 15 batters and retir-ing them in order, registering nine strike-outs along the way.

Leah Bussing went the distance for Fayette and, although she had control is-sues, she had almost as little support in the field behind her as she did from the

Fayette bats. The Lady Eagles committed six errors, making the Lady Cadets’ RBI machine spin into overdrive. Bussing al-lowed 20 runs, only 7 of which were earned on 9 hits and 11 walks.

Hannah Bleikamp led the Lady Cadet of-fense with an RBI single and, in the fourth inning, she added a base clearing 3-RBI triple to dead center. Brittney Mocherman plated 3 with a pair of singles, Funkhouser helped her own cause with a pair of RBI base hits, Sydney Schmitt chased in a run with a double, and Shayla Coffman drove in a run with a single. Adreyn Yates had a single, and LeAnn Joost, Brooke Chapin and Karissa Crisenbery each had an RBI.

Edon Boys Take DownStryker & Fayette

EDON: April 9, 2014 – Experience and team size…two intangibles that rested square-ly in the corner of the Edon Bombers on April 9. On this day, the hometown boys wel-comed in the Fayette Eagles and the Stryker Panthers for a round of BBC track and field events. The disparity of size proved to be a powerful factor and experience was the clincher as the Bombers easily outgunned the two smaller squads.

Edon placed first with 109 points, with Fayette taking second with 49.5 points, and Stryker third with 8.5.

Due to unintelligible stats, individual results were unavailable.
