For homework pick a few simple objects, perhaps from the kitchen. Use good lighting!
First, paint the background wet-in-wet to create distance, leaving a big white shape for the foreground subject matter.
Then paint the foreground objects using wet-on-drywherever crisp, sharp edges are needed for clarity.
